which car should i take to oregon this x-mas
Sell the Acura, fly out, drive a rust free Subaru home.

Mother F#@%$^r!!!!!!
I would try putting 3 qts of 5w30 and 1qt of Marvel Mystery Oil in, or following the instructions on a can of seafoam for the same type of thing. Something really thin.....then take it out and really drive it in upper RPM ranges on the freeway....like leave it in 3rd at 55, etc. Next time degrease the engine, find the source of the leak and replace the seal....but u knew that.

One more time....How do you check ECU trouble codes on EA82?
Hey everybody the USRM is still around it is just being Rebuilt. It is here now: Ultimate Subaru Repair Manual Also found by hitting the USRM button at the top of all the board windows here. So your article is now here: http://usmb.net/repair/?CurrentDirectory=FOLDER_3f29b58f4430b8.49200047/&FileType=Article&File=ARTICLE_3f2c055f4862e9.39782181.art

Weber update
Hes the one with the 82 Brat with the ea82 engine in it. All that matters is that you get the right intake manifold adapter which would be an ea82 hitachi.

!@#$%^&* Window!!! GRRRR!!!
That doesnt sound like fun. IT sounds like stripped out gears on part of the mechanism to me but it could also be that the stopper on the door to keep the glass from going further up could have shifted down or something and is restricting the window from going all the way up. Find a junkyard or fellow USMB owner with a door and swap internals=quickest fix without guesswork.

Gen 1 Brat Questions
If it is an 81 GL Brat it would have an ea81 engine in it so that would get you a lot more than an 80 or earlier. The motor and trans COULD be moved if you are willing to fabricate a little bit and such, which you have proven to be good at doing with your Bugs. Much simpler transition than those projects thats 4 sure.

what is wrong with these cars?
ShawnW replied to citabrickr's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou didnt really tell us anything about what condition you purchased the car in. How many miles and how many different owners did it have? Did you have it inspected prior to purchasing it? Did you get it cheap? Id assume so since you have had a lot of experience with GM stuff, usually people stick with what the know a lot about. Has it left you stranded yet?

Turn signal/ hazard unit
786111030 is the part number. I cant seem to find a diagram that shows where it is in any of my parts manuals. The diagram indicates its slightly to the left of the center of the car under the dash but its very vague.

Try an alternator for the battery light and a fuel filter. If you haven't replaced the gas tank yet do that too. You might have rust clogging up the fuel filters. Shawn

Turn signal/ hazard unit
The unit is black and is at the very top of the column directly next to the steering wheel as you would guess by looking at it without the covers off. Would taking the colored plastic off the column help you figure this out? 7-8 phillips screws and you would be able to see the whole workings within the steering column.
-
Turn signal/ hazard unit
are you asking what color the wire plugs from the switch are or what color the plugs that go to the switch are? The ones from the column are wrapped in a tan wire sheating and its a white plug and a brown plug. Shawn

Just bought SVX, didn't make a sound, now it whirs.
ShawnW replied to Zavikan's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXTurbo SVX? Wow! Do tell, since that car was not imported to the USA and I still have yet to see proof of it being made at all. All 4 gotta match is probably the problem. Whether or not the installation of 2 that match is going to solve it is another question, as you might have already done damage.

How fast??
But I cant recall ever needing to use any gear past 2nd when in 4LO, and I definately dont remember using 3000 RPM in any Lo range gear. I thought that if you could keep the engine above 2000 then you should be using hi range. Isn't that the point?

crazy fuel pump prob 82 brat
The above comment about the vehicle not having a computer is possible but not 100%. An 82 Brat can have an ECU/Computer. If you have an oxygen sensor you have an ECU. Its bolted to the bottom of the steering column in the area above your shinbones/knees when you are sitting in the brat. 1bbl carter weber carb models had the ECU. I have an ECU from one in my basement. I think check/clean all ground wires is a great suggestion that was noted above. Its also a 20+ year old component so if you can find a good price on one-replacement wouldn't hurt.
