Can you still get a O.E. filter?
Subieguy replied to Subieguy's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Thanks for the replies. Just went to 1stsubaruparts.com and typed in the part number and it pulled right up. $4.75. Not bad for a o.e.m. price. -
I was wondering if a O.E. oil filter is still available for a 78 Brat. If so do any of you have a part number for it? Any help would be appreciated.

What really is being gained with this design of downpipe? I am curious. I could make one myself. I work at a exhaust shop. Maybe next time I come across a turbo Subie I might want to do this. Don't have one right now. Just sold my 89 GL10 Wagon for $1700.00. I thought that was a good deal considering I got the car for free less than a year ago.

Just kind of curious. What became of the remains of your Brat? -
Needed parts for '78 Brat
Subieguy replied to YellowSub's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Do you still need the 4WD knob. I found one today. It still has the decal on it too. -
I was at one of my local junk yards today picking over the only gen1 Brat they have. I got the Jackman white spoke wheels off it. I was happy enough with that but I had a real surprise coming. I looked at the steering wheel. it was wrapped in one of those old leather covers. It was in bad shape. It just ripped off the wheel. But to my surprise the wheel looked almost new! No cracks, It even still had the grain finish on the wheel. It was not all smooth like all the other ones I have seen. So of course I grabbed it! I thought that was a pretty good find myself.

I prefer Gates Belts myself. Kind of a family thing. They have been around a long time. That is all my father has ever used on his cars since I was a little kid. I put Gates timing belts on my 89 GL10 about 3 months ago. No problems and the quality of the belts is great too. Just my Two cents.

Looking for Gen 1 rollbar fog light

Yeah, I figure that is what I will do. No big deal I guess. Plus new lights will probably look better anyway. -

Still looking for any of these parts. I saw in another post you got the tail light and the pull handle trim new. Lucky you! Just thought I would check. I am parting two gen 1 Brats. -
No, It will not.

Looking for Gen 1 rollbar fog light
Subieguy posted a topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Anybody know where I can find one or two of these? For some reason My roll bar was missing one when I got it. -
I need to see a Gen 1 Brat exhaust and which way it runs out of the muffler. I have two Gen 1 Brat exhaust systems but both are broke off right behind the muffler. I just need to know which way it runs the final piece out the back end. I need to know so I can build a new system since I can not find a new one or even a used one. Any help would be appreciated.

EA82 parts swap into a EA81?
Subieguy replied to spideyz's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I know this is a little old but I ended up with this car. Can't really complain. It was free. Let me tell you, This thing was thrashed! Engine wise that is. Both heads were cracked, thermostat was stuck wide open. That would explain why the car never got hot. Radiator was shot. The timing belts were so cracked I don't know how they had not broke. Cat was burned out. Muffler was rotten. I spent somewhere between $200 to $300 on parts to get this car working again. I think it was worth it. It seems like a pretty good car. I noticed that in earlier threads it was indicated that this touring wagon had a stick in it. It has the 4 speed auto in it. Feels kind of weak when it shifts from 3rd to 4th. I still need to service it. Lucky for me I had a 87 GL10 wagon for parts. It had a bad auto tranny. Now it runs real good. Probably better than it has in years. Now I just need to get it to pass a smog check and it will be time to sell this baby! -
Ok I have them now. Any takers on parts? I listed this in the marketplace too. Not to many interested. I thought Gen 1 stuff was getting hard to find. Maybe I was wrong. Anyway if nobody else is interested I guess I will take what I want and take the rest to the junk. I'd keep them around but I have 8 cars sitting outside right now. I will try to post some more pics too.

I'm thinking about buying some parts
Subieguy replied to cricket's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
If you go to the marketplace I am parting 3 gen 1 Brats. Two 78's and a 79. All still have the rear drums on them. One of the 78's only has 11,000 miles on it! That was due to a rollover accident and it has ben sitting for some 20 years. I probably could help you out. Let me know. -
An Expedition to the Pick'n'Pull (56K warning)

Sad way to see a Brat go. Sad way for any subie for that matter. -
None of theses Brats have A/C. Sorry
-
Ok, I finally have a update. Talked to the guy tonight and I am going to go pick up the Brats on Saturday. I will try to post more pictures so you can have better views of what their is. I am going to keep one of the bull guards and the roll bar if anybody wants them. Might even try to salvage one of them and get it back on the road. Not sure yet about that.

Are new struts still available?
Subieguy replied to Subieguy's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Can you point me in the right direction as to where I might find the KYB struts. I did a little searching on the internet and came up with nothing. Thanks. -
I am looking for new struts for my 78 Brat. Are they even made any more? I am looking to replace the rear shocks too. Help me out please! I am trying to get my Brat good enough to take it down to Pismo Beach and try it out. Got some work to get it to that point but this along with a good drivers side CV axle would be a good start. Thanks.

I asked this question earlier but what is the difference to performance with a second pipe coming out on the down pipe? If it makes more horses I could be all over this idea.
-
I could build you a exhaust like you want but I would either have to have a subie like yours to build it on, A "donor" like we call it at my work or I would need your old exhaust to build off of. That would be the only way I could build it right. The only subies I have myself right now are my 89 GL 10 and a 78 Brat. Neither has the ea 81 like your so I imagine it would be kind of tough to build one without the right stuff.
-
What is gained by adding the second small pipe to the other large down pipe? Gain in horsepower? I am not all that familar with turbos. I should get to know them better though now that I have my GL 10 and my 2003 1/2 Mazdaspeed Protege. It is turboed too. Lot more horses than my GL 10 though:lol: .
