What would you pay for this?
Subieguy replied to Subieguy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hey I would not pay a dime for it. I have gotten 2 GL-10 wagons that both had mechanical problems for free in the past 2 years. Fixed one and sold it and I parted the other one. No way I would pay for it. I just thought it would be intersting to fix since I have pretty much all the parts in the right color just sitting around. I told him I would take it off his hands for free if he had no takers. He said he would keep that in mind. I will just have to see about that though. -
It is a 85 GL wagon. Guy says it still runs and drives. Guy wants $450 or best offer. I am thinking more like free. I have gotten better Subies for free! I have all the parts I need to fix it. Same color too.

When I got my 78 Brat about 2 years ago it had been sitting for about 10 years in a field. When I opened the hood there was a big field mouse living under the hood where the spare tire went. I also found a big mouse nest inside the air box. When I took the fan out to see what was going on in there I found my second big mouse nest! Mice like Subies I guess.

All I have to say is thank goodness I don't live on the east coast! -
Gas tank for what? That would help us out a little.

MELTED t-belt cover !!!!!
Subieguy replied to subiemech85's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
In order to get the engine that hot there has got to be some kind of damage to it:eek: -
I need to know how much oil a 78 Brat holds. I can't remember off hand what it holds. While I am at it what is a good gear oil to use in the tranny and rear end?
-
Yeah you got to go Dynamat. The stuff works great. Well worth the price too.

Being offered 2 free Subies
Subieguy replied to Subieguy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If the guy does e-mail me back and tells me to come get them I will be going to get them. I might be able to get both on the trailer. I figure the hatchback is shorter so that may make it possible to get both on it. I have room for two no problem. I can always find room for another Subie. Besides my 78 Brat is getting lonely:D -

Being offered 2 free Subies
Subieguy replied to Subieguy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I have been given free Subies before. About a year and a half ago I got 2 GL-10 wagons one day apart. I just have never been offered 2 at the same time. Well I guess I am asking just because they are about a 2 hour drive away from me. I could only haul one at a time with my trailer. That just ends up being a lot of gas! Epecially when you are pulling with a 2006 Yukon with a big gas guzzling 5.3 in it! -
Ok they are a 82 4wd station wagon and a 84 Hatchback 4x4. The guy says the hatchback runs but he has no idea what is wrong with the station wagon. Should I get them or what?

Rear Disc Conversion for Gen 1's
Subieguy replied to Zefy's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
I did this swap too on my 78 Brat. I did it at least a year ago. I have not had any problems. Although I had a different way of how I did things and it did not involve a torch. I achieved a proper fit with just a grinder. It only took me about 2 hours from start to finish to get the job done. Fairly quick and easy too! I have noticed that the back rotors are getting little to no use on them though. I have been driving it regularly and the back rotors never seem to really get the rust off of them like the front ones do. The front ones stay nice and shiny like they should but the back ones do not. Not sure why though. Maybe I just need to bleed the brakes out again. Stops fine so I guess that is all that matters right? -
need help with 79 brat
Subieguy replied to michael appel's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Kind if funny but, I just looked at my bracket yesterday. It was broke in 3 places! I am surprised as bad as it was that it did not collaspe. I took it out and welded up the breaks and I welded in another piece of steel on the outside to add strength to it. Nice and solid now. I never thought to look at it before and I have never taken the pedals out of any of the 4 Brats I parted. I guess that is one of those things I had better grab next time I part one out. -
Man, that is a real shame the drivers side hinge is discontinued. I think I will have to at least get a new passengers side lower hinge. Thanks for the numbers by the way. Where did you find these old Subaru part numbers anyway?
-
Do they still exist? I mean does anybody have a old part number for the left and right lower door hinges for a 78 Brat? If not does anybody have a good set of lower door hinges they want to part with? I got to looking at my drivers side lower one today when I had the door off my Brat. Man! Is it wore out. I pulled out my extras that I had kept and they were no better. I guess I really had not paid any attention to there condition. Any help would be appreciated.

Question about brat seats

Took me almost a year to find my complete set and I ended finding that set in my local junk yard. -
Question about brat seats
Subieguy replied to Subieguy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well, I finally put my seats back in today. I got around to welding the bracket back in. About time! They look so SWEET in the back. One of the guys I work with tried to but it from me today. Not going to happen! Everybody has to stop and take a second glance when I am driving it. That probably has to do with the fact that I have the only Gen 1 Brat around. And I can't remember the last time I saw another one driving around. Kinda cool actually:cool: The 18 year old guy I work with was asking what it was. Funny he did not even know what it was and he had never seen anything like it before. Goes to show you how scarce the old gen of Subies is getting. -
Been looking for that cherry gen 1 dash?
Subieguy replied to Caboobaroo's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
They have been on Ebay for quite a while now and the pros and cons of the coverlay have also been discussed on the board. Little pricey too! -
weird speaker noise
Subieguy replied to NewDriverOlderRide's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well change the speaker with a different one and give it a test. If that solves your problem that means your speaker has developed the dreaded death rattle and it will need to be replaced. Hey, It's worth a shot. -
That is kind of funny. My wife is also looking at the pilot too. Looks like it has more leg room in the 3rd row. Just have to go test drive them and make up our minds that way. We just don't really want another minivan. But they do have better leg room aparently than the Subaru or possibly the Honda. Just have to go find out. Thanks all for your input;)
