  1. I know this a old post but could you still get parts off this 74? I could use both tail lights, the black plastic piece that holds the licence Plate lights, the trunk lid, if it is not rusted out, steering wheel and all the side marker lights if they are not broken. If you can't get parts I have a good friend that lives in Gerrardstown WV. He does not know anything about cars but I may be able to convince him to go get the parts for me. Got the address of the junkyard? My 76 DL sedan could sure use these parts. Let me know either way. Thanks, Richard.
  2. Thanks for keeping me in mind. I know the feeling. I never saw a 76 DL coupe before myself. Up until now the oldest Subaru I had ever seen was RenaissanceMan's 77 stage 1 wagon. Been all Gen1 Brats the rest of the time. Hey if I found this one there is bound to be others out there.
  3. Well I got it home this afternoon. Let the fun begin! Parts needed!
  4. Buy it! You could easily make your money back parting it even if you did not decide to try and do the Brat mod.
  5. Still somebody has to be close enough to go grab it. The parts alone are worth it!
  6. If anybody gets a shot at it let me know. I need parts for my 76 BAD!
  7. Ok I went and dug the DL out of its 19 year sleep. It was deep into the ground too. I threw 4 jackmans on it just for rolling. I had one hell of a time getting out of its hole. While I was pushing it with my Brat I broke the drivers side tail light with my A-bar. Now I will need both tail lights. Looks like I will need along with the tail lights is a trunk lid, hood, side marker lights and, more, much more:rolleyes:. I could not get the car to turn over. It seems like it has a electrical problem. I put a battery in and the only thing that came on was the brake light on the dash. I am very concerned about this one. This car needs every wheather strip or window gasket replaced. The back window gasket looks as bad as the front one. I think this is a very unique little car but I have to admit I am wondering if I should spend my time trying to hunt down parts that simply no longer exist. Oh yeah all the plastic started to disentigrate off in my hands when I started having to use the steering wheel.
  8. Yeah I could use a door handle for the passenger door on my 76 DL sedan. Could use the side marker lights too. Pretty rough but still has good parts on it.
  9. I will be looking forward to getting mine so I can get my Brat back out on the road and out of the garage during the winter.
  10. Not going to happen on an 89. You will have to go get some struts out of a 85 if you want to make adjustments.
  11. Yeah I just thought of that. I don't know why I could not seem to figure that one out. Being the former owner of 2 87 wagons and a 89 wagon. I just don't think of a wagon as a hatchback. I guess some people do.
  12. That's what I thought. I guess I better try to get this guy to send me a picture to see what he is talking about. Thanks.
  13. Ok, A guy is offering me a 87 GL 4 door hatchback. I am drawing a blank on what this looks like. I was thinking maybe he meant a trunk lid but he e-mailed me back and said it is a hatchback. Anybody have a picture of one of these? I have a 85 GL-10 sedan so I figured that was what he was talking about. I know there are 2 door hatches but a 4 door? Help!
  14. I imagine this question has been asked before but, I have a 85 GL-10 sedan with the digital dash in it. I do not like it. I am picking up a 86 GL sedan on Monday. Can I swap out the digital dash for the standard gagues in the 86?
  15. You do not need a adaptor plate for the stock Hitachi carb. Water pumps are easy to find too. Just look them up on ebay. Sometimes you can find a new one for about $10. Sometimes a little more.
  16. Ok maybe one of you can answer this then. Electronic distributors came out in the middle of the 78 model year if I understand right? So points type distributors would be in the engines with the casting on the side right? Both of my engines that have the casting on the side have electronic ignition, with a electric pick up rather than points but the engine with the casting on the front has a points type distributor. Wouldn't the electronc distributors make these the later monel engine?
  17. All 3 engines are out of 78's and they all have the top mounted starter.
  18. Ok then which motor is the better one to go with? Can the heads be swapped straight across if I need to go that route? Also will either engine mount up to the tranny in my Brat?
  19. Is there any difference in the EA 71 block. I have 2 with the engine stamping EA 71 on the drivers side of the engine and one with it on the front. Why is this? If there is a difference can things like heads be interchanged between the 2 different blocks?
  20. This happened to me with my 1st Brat. I had to take both the drivers side headlights out and reach in there and unlatch the hood by hand. Just had to pull where the cable used to be. Kind of a lot of trouble but I did not see any other way. Maybe somebody else has a better way of doing this. Oh yeah I forgot to mention that after I got the hood open I installed a new hood cable to fix the problem.
  21. Looks like it has some real rust issues around the lower right side of the windshield. Looks just like the 78 I picked up for free yesterday, the rust that is. I'll take the wheels off your hands if you don't want them.
  22. Just to let you know they did not make a 4wd wagon until 75.
  23. Sorry Mike. The guy just did a fresh rebuild on it. It will be going in the place of my tired motor for the time being.
  24. This will make it my 7th gen 1 Brat since june of 04. Too bad they were all just good for parts cars except the first one. I know this one just had the heads done and it has the bumper that the winch mounts to on it. Just need to go pick it up this weekend. Runs and FREE! This one will be parted so make your request. I am just looking for the front valence off of it myself. If I find anything else I need I will grab it. I know it has some rust from the pictures I saw. It has been at the coast suffering in the salt air. This will make for a busy Subaru weekend with picking up another Brat and the 76 DL if I can squeeze it all in!
