  1. Looks like a nice start to a project. Looks like you need a door handle for the drivers side. I have tons of extra Brat parts sitting around. let me know if you need anything. Richard.
  2. 79 Brat did not have a 02 sensor. At least all the 78 and 79 Brats I have had never had one in them. They are pretty basic. They came with the pre-muffler and a muffler. That was it.
  3. Yep I had a 76 2 sedan. It went to the junk. Just could not justify all the money it would have taken to replace the entire floorpan and other rot in it. I did not even have paperwork for it. If you ever find one I have a bunch of parts for it. I made sure it went to the junk pretty picked over.
  4. Do you know if it is a EA-71 Brat or a EA81 Brat? I have a Y pipe for a EA 71 out of a 78 Brat with low miles.
  5. My 78 Brat was sitting in a field for 10 years when I found it. I had it running the day after I got it. I have had it for a little over 3 years now and it leaks oil. Runs well though. I have a brand new rebuilt engine for it. I just need to put it it. It is unique for around here. I had some people stop at my work yesterday just to check it out. Sometimes the younger kids don't even know what it is. Kind of funny when you explain what it is and when they see the seats in the back that really throws em'. Out of my 2 Brats the 78 is my favorite over the 84 Brat. But they still are both cool!
  6. Well I finally finished the front end rebuild tonight. Man it drives like it is brand new:banana:! Well worth the time to do it too! Now it's on to replacing the engine with the fresh rebuilt one I have sitting in the garage.
  7. Yeah I did it in my 78. Got my gague cluster from a 81. It all plugs in the same. You will just have to run a wire from the ignition coil to the back of the new instrument cluster. It will need to be plugged into the one single yellow wire to make the tach work. Wire needs to be hooked up to the negative side of the ignition coil to make the tach work too. Hope that helps. Richard
  8. Height-40 1/2 width-46 depth-30 1/2 If you want at least add 1/2 inch to 1 inch of extra clearance just to be safe on all measurements. Also the two bars on the back should just slip off. That is unless they are rusted on or welded on like I did to mine. Hope that helps. Richard
  9. Hey Paul, Just like the other order count me in for 1. Maybe 2 if it is needed to complete the order. My 84 Brat is in need of a new one.
  10. Glad to see you are gonna fix it. I figured by now it had disapeared to the junk. Good to see that it did not go that way.
  11. I am getting it! $50 is what he wants that is what he is getting. Gonna look good on my 84 Brat too:clap:. Now I just need to find a roll bar for the 84.
  12. A guy offered this A bar for my 84 Brat. He says it came off his 87 Brat. Is it a original A Bar? It looks a lot different than a gen 1 Brat A bar. Just want to make sure it is a original piece. If it is The $50 he wants for it seems like a fair price. Let me know please. Thanks.
  13. What tap size do I need for a EA 82 spark plug hole. I pulled the drivers side head off and the hole is quite cross threaded. I never noticed this because I never pulled the plugs on my 85 before. Help!
  14. I am going to go check it out tommorrow. If it decent enough I will go back and get my Yukon and trailer and drag another Subaru home!
  15. Yeah my 78 Brat would look real nice with a lift on it:headbang:. Make one!
  16. Thanks for the feedback guys. The car is only about 30 miles away. This is not my first free Subie either. I have had more than my fair share of EA71 and EA82 cars roll through my hands for free. A few of those even ran! I will have to go for it I guess. What kind of motor will it have anyway? I am completely unfamilar with this newer style of Subaru. My knowledge pretty much stops with the EA82 cars. Not that I am unwilling to learn about them.
  17. Ok I have been offered a free 93 Legacy that actually runs. The guy says it has a couple of dings in the rear bumper but the rest is straight and rust free. Said it runs a little rough. The only Subies I have ever owned and still own are EA71 Brats EA81 Brats and plenty of EA-82 cars. I need to know what kind of problems I need to look for or know about on this particular car. Is this worth picking up? Don't know if it is an auto or stick. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.
  18. Ok I worked on it today. The ignition switch appeared to be going bad. You could reach up behind it and push on it and the Brat would turn off. The screw holding it was not loose. Replaced it with another one I had sitting around. Thank goodness for parts Brats:grin: . I found the reason for the fuse blowing. The fan was wired up by the previous owner to the ignition coil. It was causing a electrical problem. With it hooked up I could actually see the igniton fuse glowing bright red! Now that I took care of that the wires and fuse are staying cool. Just got to keep it running till I get my 85 GL-10 back together and it will be time to tear the 78 down for some major work.
  19. Yes, actually it has been having a overheating problem. It really seams to come and go. Last night it was cool and all the sudden it started heating up right before I got home. From what I understand the reason mine has the electronic pickup is due to the fact that is the federal model. No pcv valve on it either. That is just the way it came. Nothing has been changed on it.
  20. Another problem associated with this. I put my hand up under the dash tonight while driving and the wires on the ignition switch were hot, Real hot! Don't think I will be driving the 78 until I figure out what is going on. I could also dimly see the alternator light starting to come on.
  21. Having good metal is the best way to go. I had a big rust hole in my drivers side floor board on my 84 Brat when I got it. I got a good piece of metal from a 84 wagon donor car. I cut out the cancer and welded the good metal in. It took me about 2 hours to get it exactly the way I wanted it but it was worth it. Sheet metal on cars is tough to weld if you do not have a lot of experience welding. It is just so thin! Now I just have to fix the battery box area and some spots around the exhaust tip and I am all set. Find a donor car and cut out the metal you need. It should help cut down on labor costs at a body shop if you do not want to try fixing it yourself. Hope that helps.
  22. I was driving the Brat today and as I was making a turn through a intersection it started backfiring. It did it like 4 or 5 times then it died. I screwed around with it for a few minutes until I noticed my dash lights were not working. So, I checked my fuses and the ignition fuse was blown. This is not the first time this has happened. It did it once before when I was working on it in the garage. I have always suspected something was wrong with the distributor but the only thing besides the cap and rotor that I have replaced in it is the electric pick up. Am I missing something here? Something I am overlooking? Help!:-\
  23. Mike I have been gone on vacation. I will take a look tomorrow.
