  1. Where do I find a good kit at. I bought one for it a while back and thought it would be fine. The fingers on the pressure plate were a lot flatter than the ones on the old clutch I took out. The old ones stood up on the plate much further. Anyway this was the first clutch I have ever did. I just figured it would be ok with the new clutch I got. It works but not all that great. I had to adjust the clutch cable as far as I could and it feels like it barely grabs the clutch. It does not slip but it barely catches when I let the pedal out. Kind of sucks. So I am looking to do this again. This time with something better. Any help here would be appreciated. Thanks, Richard.
  2. You need to ignore the picture at the classic garage website. It is for referrence only. It is the same picture from when I bought my shocks for my 78 Brat. They will fit and ride well too! Take it from somebody who has them. They are the threaded kind on top like Todd is talking about.
  3. Yep. It sure will. Might need to use the EA-63 flywheel. Not sure about that. I am sure somebody here will be able to answer that one.
  4. Saw it on ebay too:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Other-Makes-Subaru-Like-Tri-Magnum-Doran-85-Subaru-w-Air_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6472QQihZ018QQitemZ280191779421QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
  5. They are fairly easy to come by. They are in 78-80 Brats 77-79 wagons. Some 80's hatches and wagons came with the EA-71 in them. Heck if you were a little closer I have one sitting on the floor of my garage. It had just had a head job done on it when I took it out of a 79 Brat. It is easier to find parts for them than the 1400 you have. Yours is probably the EA-63. Just find a Brat or wagon sitting around and go from there. Got to be one sitting around there somewhere.
  6. Switch to the EA-71 1600. Save yourself the trouble with the 1400. It would bolt right in too.
  7. Ok this is a problem I really notice when it is cold outside. When I start my Brat up in the morning I let it warm up. It comes up to almost half on the temp gague. It gets the heater or defroster blowing nice and warm. But as soon as I start to drive down the road the temp gague starts to drop and the heater starts to blow cold. I am thinking thermostat. Any thoughts. Thanks, Richard.
  8. No the gen 2 is different. It is located back by the gas tank. You will need to find one in the junk or here on the board. Or find a cheap parts car and start removing parts for extras. A lot of parts for these gen 1's are no longer available. All the gen 1's I part have come in handy for myself or others here on the board. So get a parts Brat or gen1 wagon and part it. Just make sure it is only good enough to be a parts car. Wouldn't want a perfectly good gen 1 to go to waste.
  9. Yeah you never know when you might need one. Be like me have 3 of them sitting in your garage! And one of those is a rebuilt one I picked up for $75 here on the board!
  10. Looks good! Enjoy it. If you ever need parts I am sure ther are several of us here that can help out with that too.
  11. Tried the suggestion a little while ago. It worked! Thanks! Now I just need to replace the motor, carpet and a few other things and she will be all set!
  12. You are right it is the security system going off. I have the tag on the negative battery cable telling me the procedure. I can't do either. I need the remote which I don't have and the button is there but theactual button is missing out of the metal housing for the button. So I need both a new button and a remote.
  13. It's the keyless entry control system that is causing the problem. I unplugged it and the lights stopped flashing. Now of course I don't have a remote for the car. The previous owner said it quit working so he threw it away. Lot of good that does me. Now I suppose I will eventually have to find a reomte for this car. Anybody have a Subaru part # for it. Will the car still be able to work with it unplugged?
  14. Ok I only have had this car for a week. It is still sitting on the trailer I brought it home on. That has more to do with the fact that there is a rod sticking through the top of the motor. Something strange happens when the battery is hooked up. The parking light flash like the emergency flasher button is on. It is weaker than the normal emergency flash too. It also for some reason makes the dash lights come on and flash as well. It will do it for a bit then it will stop. Then it will start in again. Could something else been damaged when the motor blew up? I am not sure how to stop this. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Richard.
  15. Does a 98 Forester have the DOHC engine or the SOHC engine. I will need a replacement and I need to know which one is the right one for my 98 Forester. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. Richard.
  16. Does the 98 Forester have the sohc engine or the dohc engine? I need to know so I can find a new engine for it.
  17. What is CCR charging for a EJ-25? Anybody have any idea? I just brought home a 98 Forester today with a rod sticking out the top of the block. I kind of am in need of a replacement motor myself.
  18. See it in Nascar all the time. I'm not down about it. It was a great price. Now I just need to find a motor and replace a few missing or broken parts and I will be all set.
  19. Well I finally went and picked the car up today. Now I know why it does not run. It has a rod sticking through the block! Guess it needs a new motor. Since I never have been able to figure out how to post pictures on here I will just give this link to them:http://s147.photobucket.com/albums/r281/subieguy/
  20. Is the 2.5 not a very good motor? What all needs to be done to drop a 2.2 in it?
  21. Ok I just bought a 98 Forester off a guy. The car has 200,00 miles on it and it is on it's second motor. The guy says it blew up. He does not know much about cars from what I got from him. He said while he was driving it the car started making a skweaking noise and then blew out a big white cloud behind it. He had it towed home and it has been sitting since June. Could this be a blown headgasket? Or could the motor went sour? I will know more when I actually drag it home. Nice car though. Fully loaded, tires were only 2 months old when it broke down. The guy just had $1500 worth of work done on it at the dealer back in May too. The two previous owners were good about keeping up on repairs at least. I have all the service records for it. The original motor was replaced at 160,00 miles with a used Japanese engine. I guess I won't know the full extent of the engine problems till I start getting into it. What engine will this have in it anyway? I am more familiar with EA-82 EA-81 and, EA-71 engines. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Richard.
