  1. Just to be clear, I don't need one. Just had one of mine checked and cleaned a few months ago and it was fine. I also have a backup in great shape too. So scratch me off the list. But the heater cock itself would be a nice thing to get for a backup. Richard
  2. I don't think you would be willing to pay what I am going to ask for it now. I have done a ton of work and put a lot of new parts in it. I will be putting it up for sale within the next 2 weeks.
  3. Try this link:http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=47847&highlight=alternator Hopefully that will help. Richard
  4. The gen 1 Brat fuel pump is under the hood. The gen 2 is back under the car by the fuel tank. It is completely different. If the fuel pump is bad you will have to find a gen 1 style fuel pump for it to work. Or you can find some aftermarket kind to work too.
  5. Just kind of funny, When I replaced the bushings in my 78 Brat they actually looked better than the ones in my 85. Go figure.
  6. Man it just keeps getting worse. I pulled off the lower control arm whlie I was down changing the ball joint. Did not like what I found. The control arm bushings are all but gone. The tie rod ends have a lot a free movement in them. Probably too much. What do I expect with a car with all the original front end pieces from 1985. I did not want to have to replace all this stuff too!
  7. How about the heater control valve too. They are chronic for leaking. Need them too.
  8. Man that sucks! I just sent that guy money for a power steering pump on Monday. I sure hope I get it.
  9. Tie rods look fine. I think I will have to do the ball joints first. I was just trying to get this right so I could sell it. It seems like every time I think I am done something else pops up.
  10. When I bought this car it had the 2 front tires really chewed off on the outside of them. I figured probably not rotated by the previous owner right? Well I put 4 new tires on and after about 50 miles of driving on them I can actually see that they are starting to wear a little. The car drives straight with no pull either way. Both ball joints have the rubber boots torn on them. I know I need to replace them. The struts are shot too. Will this cause the excessive tire wear? Will just replacing the ball joints help? Thanks, Richard
  11. www.1stsubaruparts.com They have great prices and are real easy to work with. Hope that helps. Richard
  12. Here are both part numbers for the 2 different size bolts: 800211050 description is Bolt-11x130x34 800211060 description is Bolt-11x116x34 I just checked at 1stsubaruparts.com and they were selling for $2.04 a piece. Hope that helps:) Richard
  13. Thanks for the tip. I will give it a shot this weekend. Richard.
  14. All the electric windows work in my 85 GL-10 sedan but they are all so slow! Is there anything I can do to make them go up and down faster? Lube the tracks, lube the motor? Anything? Thanks. Richard.
  15. I have had a similar problem on my 78 Brat. My dash lights don't come on sometimes. I just have to reach up under my dash and wiggle the connector on the back of the gagues. I know that tells me the contacts are probably dirty but I just dont feel like cleaning them. Never had the problem with the blower motor though. Check all your electrical contacts to make sure they are clean. I bet that is your problem. Richard.
  16. I will buy mine online. The local dealer for me is 30 miles away and I think the next closest dealer is about 2 hour drive away. About the only thing I would but from the dealer is a oil filter. They are the only thing reasonable. And I will only buy that if I happen to be near the dealer at the time. I am not going to drive 30 miles just for a oil filter!
  17. I got the inpression this guy didn't care. He would not even give me the part number for it. He told me it was their policy not to give out part numbers.
  18. I went to my closest Subaru dealer yesterday to buy a thermostat for my 85 GL-10 and my 84 Brat. I was quoted a price of $25 a piece! I could not believe it. No way was I paying that price. Came home and went to 1stsubaruparts.com and check how much they are selling them for. $10.76 each! Man I will never buy anything from my local dealer again. This is not the first time I have tried to buy parts there. Their parts prices are always outrageous.
  19. Where do I get a good clutch kit for my 78 Brat. I would like to get the best kit I can get for it if possible. Thanks, Richard.
  20. My question is can these be cleaned. I mean can I take them out and clean them by hand. I have a feeling with the hesitation in this car that one or more of them might be dirty to the point of clogged. I get the impression from the condition of the engine when I took it apart that it was just driven till it broke down. So can I clean them or will they need to be replaced? Thanks, Richard,
  21. Hey I have this fresh motor and I am going to use it. The motor that is in the Brat now had been sitting for 10 years when I found it. It runs but leaks oil from every spot it can. I have recently spotted a coolant leak coming from it too. So I am going to go that route with it. Hey Mike I would appreciate any help on this that I can get. I am not quite ready to do the work yet. I am going to find the parts that I need for it first. Looks like mainly just seals for the engine and transmission. I will also need to find a new distributor and rebuild one of my carbs for it too. Also, need a new radiator for it. Oh and I need to find a new water pump. This is the earlier version of the EA-71 with the water pump mounted out on the block and not with the back of it on the block.
  22. The Brat I got the tranny out of had been sitting for over 20 years. Thought I should consider replacing such old seals and gaskets. I don't know if it leaked before I pulled it out but it does now.
  23. Ok I think it is time to pull the 78 Brat off the road and do some real work on the drivetrain. It is due for a smog check in a few days and I know there is no way it will pass. I figure now is the time to change the engine and transmission. The engine is a rebuilt motor but it has been sitting for a unknown number of years. Never been used. Still has all the holes plugged up from the engine rebuilder. I also have a 11,000 mile transmission out of another 78 Brat. I plan on putting that in too. I need to know if I should replace anything on the motor due to it sitting for a long time. Also, I know the transmission is leaking so are all the seals I need for it still available? If they are not does anybody have any suggestions as to what I can use to reseal it. Thanks, Richard.
  24. Yeah it does help. Too bad I didn't stay with a OEM clutch in the first place. Would have saved myself a lot of trouble.
  25. I just did this a few weeks ago with my 85 GL-10. The original cork gasket was a pain to get off. It took me almost a n hour on a bench grinder with a wire whell to get it off the pan. I put some RTV on pan side of the cork gasket and slapped it on. Bolted it back up to the motor without torqeing it. It does not leak a drop.
