Does anybody know a company that would make some if they had the proper dimensions for one? Or if someone somewhere has the remnants of one to have some one use as a template to build off of? Somebody has to be able to do it. If you ever watch any of those show with cars being overhauled, etc, they sometimes make modifications to the windows and bring in glass people that pretty much can make a window gasket for anything. My two cents. I am going to have to look around. I believe somebody can do it. It will just be a question of who and what it is worth to us Gen 1 owners.

The funny thing about this car is the exhaust sytem is in great shape. It is all there and not rusted out. Complete back to the exhaust tip.

All of the front seat mounts are still intact. They will need some metal work to make them completely solid again. Three of the four lower seat brakets in the back seat are rotted completely off. Looks like the rust has gotten in under the gas tank too. I wont know that for sure until I get the tank out. I am not ready to give up yet but finding window gaskets is a must so I can keep a repeat from happening again. Man this would make a great parts car for another DL. Now I just need to find one around that isn't rotted from the inside out to build on:lol: .

Ok I thought I would see what kind of opinions there are on rust. My 76 DL is turning out to be a major rust bucket. But, only on the inside. This is due to the front and rear window gaskets leaking. The body is pretty much rust free with the exception of the trunk lid. That will need to be replaced. How far do you go to fix a Subie? I know this is a rare car but you have to draw the line somewhere. I just came in from cutting out the floor underneath the rear seat. Or what was left of it:lol: . Just amazing how little there is left. Too bad they don't make complete floor pans like they do for old Camaro's, Chevelles, etc. I am going to have to start making repro parts for this thing at the rate I am going here! Not a complaint either. It would sure help out us Gen 1 people if we had a source for new or repro parts. What do you think?

I just pulled out the back seat and the floor underneath is completely rusted out. Obviously the rear window seal went bad and it leaked. Again it can be fixed but a lot of work to do it. Will I be able to replace the rear window seal to keep this from happening again? -

I found a serious problem today, RUST:banghead: BAD RUST! I took some pictures too. Go back to the first page and click on the link. Tell me what you think. I know I can cut it out. I know I can weld new sheetmetal back in. I weld metal every day. That is what I do for a living. I just am not sure if it is worth it. I really like this little car but you have to draw the line somewhere. Let me know what you guys think would be the best way to go here. -

So what happened with the 81 you were talking about getting rid of? I was interested. I guess you have decided not to sell it. -

It runs! I went and got one of the many gen1 Fuel pumps I have out of storage and it fired right up:headbang:. Put new plugs and wires in it too. I also discovered that the gas tank was empty. The gague in the dash reads full with the tank sending unit plugged in or not. Banging on it sounded pretty empty too. I poured some gas in the tank and it runs. Man did it smoke for a few minutes after start up. After I let it run I found the big oil leak around the oil pump. Can't tell exactly where it is leaking due to all the gunk on the motor. I then had to put brake fluid in and bleed all the brakes. There was absolutley no fluid left! Then time for a test drive. Drives pretty good for a car that has been sitting for 19 years. One thing I discovered, There must be a broken mount on the tranny. The back end of the tranny bangs against the floor when I am shifting. I can pick up the tranny by the shifter and wobble it around. I guess I will have to look into fixing that problem. So that is where I am at with this 76 DL at the moment. -

Ok I got it to run! Well sort of. I can't get the fuel pump to work. So I tried another one. Nothing. So I will have to go to my storage shed and get my extras to try them. I did not even get a response going straight to the battery. If I put gas into the carb it will run though. Oh man did it blow crap out the tail pipe. All kinds of nuts and stuff that mice use to build a nest. -

Ok I finally did some electrical work on it today. Changed all the fuses clueaned up the conecters and gave it a try. Nothing! Only the brake light would come on. Finally I noticed the small wire to the starter was unhooked. Plugged it back in and it started turning over. Still would not start. Changed the coil. Still would not start. I think I will try to change the ignition switch in the morning. I was just glad to see that the engine was not seized after sitting for 19 years. Bad thing is the gas tank is almost full. I can't imagine what 19 year old gas must be like:rolleyes: ! -

Junk yard 'whole car' policies, WTH?
Subieguy replied to SakoTGrimes's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Money! That is what it is all about. The local yard here had a 87 hatchback just into the yard. I asked him if I could get it. He told me $500 and it is yours. I would just have to wait till the first of the year to pick it up because they had reached the limit on how many cars they could sell in a year. -
Ok, What year Subarus will I be able to interchange parts with for my 76 DL sedan?
