  1. Yeah my wife would like that. She's got to be getting tired of me dragging home a different Subie about every 3 months but I think this one will be a keeper. That is as long as I can find parts for it.
  2. Does anybody know if this car will have the EA-63 or the EA-71 in it? If it is the EA-63 are parts for it still easily available?
  3. Yeah mice had gotten into the glove box. Found the owners manual under all that stuff. The floors look good. I stuck my head under the car to look for any major rust in the floor but I did not see any. Lucky for me the windows have beeen rolled up the whole time it has been sitting. But the door and trunk weatherstrips need to be replaced. Will those new windshield gaskets that we had made fit into this body style?
  4. Went and took pictures today. Added a link too. What do you guys think?
  5. Yeah if it is a gen 1 Brat. The 3 bolts on top and I think there are 4 on the bottom. It is pretty simple. You also will have to unplug a connecter or 2. I think the headlight switch needs to be unplugged and maybe one or two more. It has been a while since I did it myself.
  6. Yep that's right! A guy called me today and said he had a old Subaru sitting in his yard and asked me to come see it if I wanted it. Pulled up and what do you know. A orange 76 DL 2 door sedan! It has been sitting in the same spot since 1988. The guy quit driving it because the engine was using too much oil. Still has the original hub caps on it. The front fenders both had a couple of dents in them but nothing that could not be pounded out. The trunk had rust bubbles on the corners. RH tail light is broken and the RH door handle is broke off. Ok, now here is a few questions. Parts, how hard to find parts for this car like a door handle and some side markers and a tail light? How many of these cars do you think are left in the U.S.? I can't recall ever seeing one before. My first thought was to get it and part it but I am thinking that would probably be a mistake. Would it be one? I did not take pictures because I was not prepared and I did not have my camera. The guy told me I could come get it whenever so I will probably pick it up next weekend. Any thoughts on this car would be appreciated. I have never owned a Subie older than a 78 before. Here is the link: http://s147.photobucket.com/albums/r281/subieguy/
  7. Had the same problem on my 78 Brat. Sprayed some WD-40 on it and put the vise grip on it. Came right out.
  8. Nice to see it show up after all this time! Congrats:banana:
  9. What? No seats in the back? Pretty sure it came with them when new.
  10. Let me see here, My first subie was a 88 XT. Got me hooked on subies for sure. Had serious rust issues but I drove it for nearly 4 years before retireing it to the junk. Other Subies I have since retired go like this: 86 XT. Parts car for my 88 XT. 87 GL-10 wagon. It was my parts car for my 89 GL-10 wagon that I sold. 2 78 Brats, 2 79 Brats. Those where used for parts for my 78 Brat project. 87 DL wagon that I got a few parts off of for my 85 GL-10 sedan that I have right now. Just took the 87 DL wagon and a 79 Brat to the junk 2 weeks ago. So my 2 current Subies are my 78 Brat and my 85 GL-10 sedan. More Subarus to come I am sure!
  11. Well I have been checking part #'s and the ignition switch is the same for at least 85-94. So I guess I will take the one out of my 87 colum and give it a try.
  12. This is a new problem that has just started happening recently. I turn the car off but it stays running even after the key is out. The only way to get it to shut off is to stall it then it shuts off. Could the ignition switch be going bad? If so would one out of a 87 GL-10 work for it? Any help would be appreciated.
  13. Just got a set from Mick. They are great! These are a must have for you Brat owners. Thanks a bunch!
  14. Acid dipping is the way to go. I used to do it at a job I used to have. One word, Amazing! I have seen it used on cars. It gets in and gets the crap out. Just cant leave it in too long or it will eat the metal but, it works very good.
  15. Looks like you could use a new hood and grille though:grin:
  16. I did that to my 88 XT. When I was working on it with the panels out I saw that it had the mounting points for the shoulder harness. I discovered that starting in 90 it was standard for shoulder belts. But it was optional up until then. So I found another board member here who had the belts and I put them in. Now I need to do the same thing to my 85 GL-10 sedan. It has all the mounting points for shoulder belts too.
  17. The XT radiator is quite a bit longer than the standard GL or DL radiator. I found this out a few years back when I went to put a radiator from a 86 GL into my 88 XT. It was several inches shorter than the one in my XT. I just made some modifications and used it anyway with no problems.
  18. You have to fix it. Damage is not too bad. Hey you fixed it once before why not one more time.
  19. Looks like a 9 1/2 hour drive from where I live. I would do it if the cars are still there and it was a great price.
  20. Man did you see the picture of that Brat! It looks better than the Brat I drive. Where's the rust? Two words, Road trip! Just would like to know if it still existed and a price.
  21. Well if you do decide to part it let me know. I am always looking for parts for my 78 Brat.
