  1. The final answer is froget the stupid AC and fix the ENGINES cooling system first. I was just re-reading this thread.... how did the thermostat work out for you?
  2. When that purge selinoid is stuck Open that will cuase a vacume leak and your idle will be effected. When it unsticks and goes Closed thats when your engine will behave itself I'd swap out the selinoid or put on a new one. Good luck !_!
  3. nail... head... you know how it goes
  4. I spose you could trace back with a multimeter from the device (IAC) along the harness untill you find a problem. I really dont know what volts/amps you should be comaring against or what OHM resistance to compare to either. Is this IAC you put on a brand new OEM part? Remanufactured part? junkyard part? It's almost always the device and not the wires. See any obviouse problems in the wires ? Kinks, cuts or freys? Good luck !_!
  5. The EA82 SPFI has its own 'choke' system so yes it will idle high when its cold. This is to warm up the engine so it can go into open loop and run more efficiently. It should hold the idle pretty steady however, not bounce between 1500-2000. As the engine warms up the idle will slowling come down to 800 and again should be pretty solid. No osilation or misfireing at idle.
  6. haha I'm just wondering what those PPM HCs he was talking about were figured id use a few acrynyms in there myself ;p
  7. Hey just noticed you are in the twin cities also Glad to hear the AT control box worked out for you. As for a power flush on the tranny dont be supprized if you are quoted at $150 - $250 for it. As noted before they will charge you atleast 1 hour labor (going rate is about $75/hour around here) and then they charge you for the service and fluid. Cheapest I've seen them advertised for is $80 so call around!
  8. If you have a torch I'd try and heat it and break it free with a cheater bar. No torch? Chizel is much cheaper I got a big 1" chizzle with hand guard on it for pretty darn cheap at Home Depot. Man that hand guard is a digit saver! Too bad you are in Madison That is quite a drive... 4 hours aint it?
  9. That's some fancy lines there; where did you pick them up at? Oh also what Volvos came with oilcoolers? 740 T-I ? 940 ?
  10. Glad to hear you found the issue. BTW WTH are PPM HC ?
  11. Yes. I was just looking at it the other day on his GL wagon. Goes from the adapter you describe, to a remote filter, to the cooler and back.
  12. When I care I run low silicate and no phosphate coolant. Less crap to build up as you cook that stuff in your engine! I usually dont care tho and run whatever
  13. Brendan: I'm in the TwinCities MN; where you at in WI? I got an impactr wrench and compressor. If that dont work I got a small torch/welder !_! You can get the little torch at Home Depot for $50 Its an oxygen/acedliline setup with everything you need to get started. Had to use it the other day for my brother to get a tranny cooler line fitting loose! Don't bother with just MAP gass or propane as that wont get it hot enough; gotta have that oxygen amplification! Peace
  14. It LOOKS like zero on that guage, but that 0 line is actually about 8 PSI. If you notice and look REALLY close while its ideling, then shut off the engine completly, the nedel drops below that line. Kinda scary but its all good. If your lifters are quiet then you have adequete pressure. Your pressure should build up siignificantly and be at 45 PSI output at 3,000 RPMs @ full running temp. Oil pressure will be a lot higher if the engine is cold. GD is correct on the sending units; they really do suck. If you want a truely accurate oil pressure reading I would get you a real guage that doesnt use a crappy electric sending unit but one that routes oil upto the guage. Peace
  15. Fo sho! I'll keep you in the loop on planning an offroading day at Roy's Playground. I'm still waiting for word from the MN Jeep board on what the county ruled on for Roy. He got a summons to defend himself against aligations of public nusence. Once I know whats up I'll start a thread in the Meet/Greet and well all decide on a date. Peace
  16. EA82's are NONinterference engines. Throwing a timing belt will not cause any unwanted meetings in the valve train
  17. Yep gotta get the old one out. Tried clamping vice grips down HARD on the bolt head and pulling down as you spin it? Have access to a welder? Could weld a pipe to it and then get some real leverage How about a drill and some bits? Might have to just drill it out Since the threads are trashed anyway you wont have to worry about saving those !_! Is this one of the bolts to the unibody or one of the bolts to the main crossmember / bracket behind the oil pan?
  18. Bump it up! 215/75! GO GO GO That would be 27.7" tall. Now your talking light truck all terrain size
  19. so up front when you turned it was hitting the unibody? Was it just part of the fender? Wheel well ? How far could you turn; as in was it just limiting the overal turning radias or severly inhibiting steering? Was it rubbing where you could just cut/beat stuff out of the way (if one was brave enough )
  20. I think its that rediculouse cat woman outfit you insist on wearing
  21. Hey not bad! Thats going from 24.2" tall to 26.9". A noticible difference for sure in stance and clearance. If you went any taller what was it rubbing on; strut seats? How much offset would be needed to step away from the strut and go taller?
  22. Dude are you following me or somethign? LOL I know where you live!
  23. I just talked to a rep at CCR Inc the other day. I was quoted 1200 $ + shipping for an EA82 SPFI engine. Sounds like they quoted you what $1400 for a rebuilt engine (which is what CCR Inc. does) so it's not far off. Glad to hear they are getting you taken care of. Hope to see you round here more often now Peace
  24. Ohhhh THOSE cam covers Roger that, they leak huh! hahaha I put brand new seals on mine, cam cases were cleaned real good. They still leaked within 1500 miles =P Everyone warned me when I rebuilt it that I shouldnt get angry when the thing leaks oil from those and the oil pan! LOL Needless to say it 'sweats' oil from those rocker panels and the oil pan Lets not talk about how much oil blows by my rings.... k thx !_!
