  1. Get the BIG and WIDE catch pans! When you pull the plug it comes shooting out and the angle changes as the flow slows down. With those smaller drain pans it's harder to keep it all in w/o spilling some FYI gloves are for wussies! You have soap, use it when you are done
  2. Here are the only choices I'm privy too: Back Yard Boys lift out of Australia: http://users.bigpond.net.au/bybsubi/ (i dont think patrick (http://www.ozified.com/) yet distrubutes new gen lifts out of the US?) Scorpion lift again out of Australia but here is a US distrubitor: http://www.isrperformance.com/main.html (click on Offroad Accessories on the left) I dont know if mudrat79 (john) does contract work but he might whip one up for you if the price is right! Email him and find out. Good luck and I'm happy to see some new gen folks starting to climb out of the box
  3. Damn that sucks man Nothing worse then tearing down an engine you just built. Grrrr.... Good luck this time Gotta kick this thing in the butt so you can do that tranny!
  4. Yep got a Y pipe from archemitis that was from an EA81 with a blown head gasket. Slapped it on my EA82. Man that thing stunk for a week I swear. Soon as she got upto temp the smells came rolling out. Give it a day or two. Keep an eye on your oil level and coolant level. If you arent loosing any but still smoking I'd say its just yoru Y pipe. Make sure the headers are flush to the heads. Had that problem before and can be a stinky problem. As GD noted check your inner CV boots. Could have a tear which tends to fling packing grease all OVER. Might be flinging some onto the cat.
  5. True dat! Replace that radiator FIRST thing! All the fans in the world wont keep you cool if your radiator is pluged up on the inside and rotting away on the outside After you get that new radiator in for sure do up a switch on those fans. I think they come on too late anyways and most times the temp sensor in the radiator is fouled up anyway.

Loved that thing! Need to get me another soon. Only club affiliation is USMB!
  7. Even in the twincities metro area there is (was?) a lot of green space. This was one of the coolest things i liked about MN when I moved up here. The dozers are right on our heels now it seems Now with all the 'organization and catagorization' of land by the DNR its all being formely designated offlimits or limited use. They talk about how many miles that will be open for limited use by OHVs but i'll let their website speak for itself... http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/input/mgmtplans/ohv/index.html click on "Trail Plans & Proposals" ... I'll spare you the clicking; its empty. "Forest road / trail inventory & designation" has extensive details on whats being closed. Seems pretty clear where they are focusing all of their attention. There isnt even links to the 2 DNR sanctioned OHV parks in the state. Must be real big plans for making more OHV trials; huh? I understand something has to be done. It's a Tragedy of the Commons really. People want green space for fair use. Those who use it properly enjoy it. Some prefer to enjoy themselves at the expense of others. Lots of trails I have seen are litterd with stupid junk like refridgerators, mattresses, stoves, etc. Envirnomental side effects from offroading asside; dumping junk is just unnaceptable. Spose I am in no position to whine about it fore I do little to aid the problem. I may not dump junk but I certainly offroad. Just made me sad thinking about all the trails I've seen leveld recently. If anyone wonders why we offroad in questionable spots it's becuase there is little choice left
  8. Ya I cant wait to see what you guys did... so i can steal your idea! haha j/k I know how dialup is man I still have it at home. Here at work its nice to sit on a DS3 though!
  9. Ya 29"s look big on these little subarus haha. Me and Arch both climbed that shelf on the left side there! Arch lifted a wheel pretty high off the ground comign down; cant see it much in the little movies but it was cool IRL
  10. It definatly sits higher but judging buy how much work it took to do whatever the hell yall are talking about I'd say its more then just a higher lift... I'm going to guess at some extensive drivetrain modifications for the kind of effort it took and the hype behind its secrecy
  11. just noticed some issues in the URLs try now
  12. Did a little offroading last weekend. Second test drive with the 4WD conversion, lift and 29"s on. Got some footage for yall to check out if you want Images http://www.mnchopshop.org/images/usmb/morganm_offroad_15MAY04_01.JPG http://www.mnchopshop.org/images/usmb/morganm_offroad_15MAY04_02.JPG http://www.mnchopshop.org/images/usmb/morganm_offroad_15MAY04_03.JPG http://www.mnchopshop.org/images/usmb/morganm_offroad_15MAY04_04.JPG http://www.mnchopshop.org/images/usmb/morganm_offroad_15MAY04_05.JPG http://www.mnchopshop.org/images/usmb/morganm_offroad_15MAY04_06.JPG http://www.mnchopshop.org/images/usmb/morganm_offroad_15MAY04_07.JPG Movies: MorganM http://www.mnchopshop.org/images/usmb/morganm_offroad_15MAY04_01.MOV http://www.mnchopshop.org/images/usmb/morganm_offroad_15MAY04_02.MOV Archemitis http://www.mnchopshop.org/images/usmb/archemitis_offroad_15MAY04_01.MOV http://www.mnchopshop.org/images/usmb/archemitis_offroad_15MAY04_02.MOV Movies are in QuickTime .MOV format. 13. I concur with the warnings on big tires and the auto tranny. On 29"s with a lift I am the slowest thing on the road. Pretty much have to drive around at WOT. Getting going with a clutch is bad enough; couldnt imagine with an auto trans and only 3 gears. It would be too much stress for that little 3AT. Putting your time and money towards a 5speed conversion, bigger tires and rims would be your best bet IMHO. The 5spd dual range would be a way better upgrade then just a lift kit. Even up on 15" rims and 25" tires you would be sitting pretty damn nice. With that setup you could get PLENTY dirty and have a blast.
  14. I know GL10 turbo wagons did. Main thing to remember is 2WD to 2WD swap and 4WD to 4WD swap. If your turbo wagons are 4WD then you will need the parts from a 4WD vehicle.
  15. Did you just slide the tranny back? or pull forward on the engine? My driveshaft is welded in so sliding the tranny back is not really an option Wonder if I could just loosten the bellhousing bolts and pull that motor forward just enough to reach in and do the TO bearing? The 2 studs at the bottom might not let me pull it to far I know the ruber mounts have plenty of room to flex.
  16. Good work man. Sounds like you were busting rump roast with some deterimination! Looks like it paid off
  17. Yes stupid me, didnt replace the throw out bearing when I did my 4WD conversion.... Man that thing is LOUD. With the clutch in the thing is quite but when I let off the pedal its back to chirping. If I hold the throw out fork tight from inside the engine bay it also shuts up. I might not have hooked up the throw out fork and clutch linkage properly. There is a big pin and holes for cotter pins that goes in perpendicular to the throw out fork. What is this for? Any way to shut up my bearing w/o pulling my engine and replacing it? Thx
  18. It should probably be stated that the amount of water should be SMALL. Your engine should be at FULL OPERATING temp. If you are worried about just pouring water down the carb try a spray bottle for more control over the amount of water coming in
  19. Grounds are good to go. Redid all of the ones we could see. Didnt fix it I can put a volts meter on that wire but are you talkinga bout the wire that goes on with a nut or the 2 terminal plug? I'll check out the fusible links also.
  20. My '88 GL SPFI is running kinda crappy. Archemitis has been helping me try and figure it out but we are still at a loss on some funny issues. The idle tends to drop and come back or raise and fall. ALL my lights (interior and exterior) dim and surge in time with the engine. Dash idiot lights flash on and off (again in time with the engine running like crap) The Volts guage bounces and reads about 15-16 VDC. I hear the fuel pump at idle slow down and speed up. These symtoms persist till about 2500 RPMs where I cant tell if stuff is just surging and fading so quickly it all runs together or if it is truely running better at higher RPMs. I think it's still present at higher RPMs because the volts meter is still bouncing away! I instantly thought it was an electrical issue. Specificly the alternator which I have swaped another one on. Same problem persisted. Archemitis noticed my grounding system sucked a whole lot so we put all new FAT grounds in. Helped it idle a little more solid but the funny flickering and surging persists. I'm really at a loss here! Only electrical thing I've messed with since this could have started was installing a CB radio. I hardwired it to the lighter. Appropriated its power wire and ground for the CB. The issue is present with the CB off. Is there some stupid sensor loose or a little ground buried deep we missed? Help!
  21. They are all a pain in your rump roast I bet someone would trade you straight up for a BRAT. Try the Marketplace with a topic like "Want To Trade RX for BRAT!" Good luckl
