  1. Oh another thing my friend reminded me. Gotta fill up the rear diff! What should I be putting in that? Also how do I fill it up all the way w/o making a huge mess? Thx
  2. I've watched a few AC systems purged before. One had QUITE a bit left as it spout a nasty white vapor for a good 2 minutes. A quick cut to one of the soft lines and step away for till its done purging. Do this out in the open. Not in your garage or any sort of enclosed area. The draw backs are that it is indeed a seriouse health hazard and air pollutant; however the choice is yours. When I removed my system the AC was shot. I put a screw driver on the little purge valve... made a PFFFffft noise (less then 1 second) and that was it. Didnt even see a trace of coolant or oil purge. Everything else was unbolt, unplug and toss asside. There is a lot of junk plumbed in and removing your ENITIRE AC system can really clear out that engine bay. Also removing the condesner from the front of the radiator lets the radiator breath a little better. Good luck
  3. Just occured to me I'll be needing to fill up this 4WD Dual Range I'm installing. Wondering what weight I should be using. What reminded me of this was the fact my 2WD 5speed I pulled out recently leaked ALL of it's gear oil on my garage floor... where'd I put that kitty litter? Thx
  4. Definaly a good thing. This must be why I find it nearly impossible, unless I really try, to send my wagon into a tail spin. Need to do up some brake lines I guess and bolt it back on...
  5. Bah don't call it a cracked head just yet How much coolant and/or oil are you using? Oil in the over slow tank? Foam or milk in the oil? (dipstick or cap) Something is definatly wrong if you are sure its burning coolant up. Could be as simple as intake manifold gaskets however Keep digging!
  6. So you could buy new 4WD rotors; but are the rotors and hub's seperate deals, or if you bought new "rotors" from a parts place it would be the whole hub/rotor. Thereby needing only the calipers? I've only seen 2 rear discs come through our local Pic'n'Pull and neather sets of rotors were worth touching. The calipers and hubs seemed salvageable. Anyway just dreams. I need to get my rear drums working first :-p
  7. I DONT GET IT So I dig out this funny vavle I've removed from my '88 GL wagon. When I talked to mudrat79 about it on the phone I described it as a cylinder housing with 3 lines hooked upto it. I was wrong; it has FOUR, 2 on each side, of a 4" aluminum cylinder. Funny little cap at the end of the cylinder too. Suposidly the porportioning valve is in the front; under the bonnet. I looked and It's not there unless they hid it behind the brake booster assembly. Lines to go from the master cylinder to the hill holder and direcly to the front calipers from what I can tell so far. Two more go up on both sides of the fire wall and dip into the car. Coming along the floor and to the rear bench seat. They descend into the rear subframe assembly (BETWEEN THE BODY AND MAIN X-MEMBER WHERE MINE BROKE! ) go to thi crazy cylinder and 2 more lines come out to corresponding drums. It's got to be the main porportioning valve The whole assembly (cylinder, lines, fittings) are shot. I could maybe reuse the cylinder but why reuse all the lines and fittings that's just going to break again on both sides. I hope the dealership has perfect replacment lines?? That would be too easy. Those 2 custom lines I was going to have made are out the window; this assembly is critical to the brakeing, correct? Fun stuff, Thx !_!
  8. modifications with the sawzall are FUN been doing quite a few with my BFH and die grinder w/ cut off wheel! gottta make room for the 30x10.5s
  9. Fire order is 1-3-2-4. It fires the right head then the left head. Cylinders are marked with a number embosed directly on top of the cylidner on the block. Kinda hard to see but they are there. You bring up good points Dr. RX. Check that dizzy rotor postion and check your wire routing. Also if the dizzy has been pulled you might be a tooth or 2 off. Its a real bugger getting it on the right tooth becuase the gear teath are taiperd
  10. Just talked to Loess Hills again. I have a penciled in reservation for 3 cabins and 2 campsites. Nothign is in stone untill everyone calls individual and arranges a reservation WITHIN a week from today. Mention you are with the USMB. I have given him your guys first names also (and nothing more). He said we are in for the 20% group discount however this souly depends on everyone reserving AND staying two nights! (firday and saturday). Most have expressed they would be staying both nights but I can not speak for everyone on this. Two phone numbers can be found here: http://www.loesshillshideaway.com/rates.html Scroll to the bottom. The first one is their home and the second is the actualy campground. Both are fine to call as they work a lot out of their home. If you can not get ahold of anyone leave a message with your name, number to call, mention you are with the USMB, and wish to reserve your site/cabin (in that order pls ) Things are coming to gether nicely here and I thank you all for your prompt responses and cooperation. USMB really is a top notch organization Can't wait to see you all there and my God help me in getting my wagon road worthy by the 23rd!!! (would hate to show up in a KIA Rio ) Peace
  11. timing timing timing... its so critical, so easy to screw up and so hard to get perfect sounds like you got the timing belts on right. was the dizzy ever removed?
  12. LOCKERS! yaya i know; good luck! hehe how about some of the keen little subaru tools? Like the axle tool or the timing belt tensioner tool? I know most ppl get by with out them but that is mostly becuase you simply can't find them unless the dealership happens to have one still in or you luck out online.
  13. that is trick! that girl does good work can i contract her out next time I blow my EA82 up?
  14. Recieved definate confirmations from: Morganm/Archemitis: 1cabin McBrat: 1campsite Syrinx: 1campsite Redlance: 1cabin 88xt6joe: 1cabin subiemech85: 1campsite Pending: OmahaSubaru Those not on either list who have already RSVP'd have expressed that they have alternate plans and will not be staying at Loess Hills Hideaway. I will be trying to get a hold of Loess Hills today to pencil in a reservation for the above sites. I will ask him how we should coordinate for final reservations and deposit money. Will reply back when I know further details. Thank you.
  15. Dont' forget about extending the steering linkage Also at 4" you might have an isue with brake lines in the rear? Check it out.
  16. Anyone know if we can still get the USMB discount at http://www.radiators.com for the 2 core OEM replacment radiator? I have a 3 core aluminum radiator from a V6 Ford Toaurs. Tried to fit it in my EA82. Fit PERFECTLY except for the STUPID 4" fill neck!!!! Thanks Ford... A Legacy radiator just barely fits in there. The dual electric fans fit if you put them on the front. Very tight fit and you have to make a little adapter for the hoses. Minimal gain for the effort if you ask me. Archemitis had an EA82 and an EJ22 (Legacy) radiator all apart side by side and the EJ22 was BARELY any more surface area. I think you are on the right track looking for a 2 core that fits.
  17. The ultra top seceret code word is DISSESTABLISHATARIANISM. Ok just kidding. I'm actually trying to get ahold of them and figure out how they want us to reserve this. I will reply back here when I know what exactly to do. I emailed McBrat, 88xt6joe, subiemech85, Syrinx, and Redlance to get final definate confirmations on your requests. I just want to be positive of our requests before I tell them to reserve anything. They are kind of hard to reach by phone. I'll try all day today till I get them on the horn
  18. Everyone should also note on the cabins (I didnt notice this till yesterday!) that it shows here http://www.loesshillshideaway.com/rates.html $10 is required for each person beyond the first 2. Children under 12 are free. Pets are also another $5 per pet. Thanks!
  19. Sorry bout that Redlance; swore I emailed you also. Thanks for requesting that last cabin; we are in for the 20% group discount! Sounds good Shawn. Looks like the USMB will be renting out about 90% of this place
  20. I have 2 big ones to get rid of. Dunno about how well they fit. One is off a Volvo 740 turbo and the other is off a SAAB 900 S turbo. Let me know if you want to buy one
  21. It's for pulling the stub axle back through the bearings and knuckle.
  22. Just got off the phone with Loess Hills Hideaway. The group rate ONLY applys to cabins BUT he said if we rent 3 campsites and atleast 1 cabin we could get 10% off. The cabins sleep 4 to 5 comfortably. He said there are 5 beds and the dimensions are 20'x13'. If we get one more cabin we can get the 20% discount I really need to hear from everybody who has curretnly RSVP'd to ShawnW to reply here IF they will be staying at Loess Hills and what they would prefert (campsite or cabin) Once I got a list of ppl confirmed at my end I can call in a reservation. I have emailed most everybody on the RSVP list. Right now it looks like we have: Myself, phantom, archemetis and his girlfriend: 1cabin McBrat and son: 1campsite 88xt6joe: 1cabin subiemech85: 1campsite Syrinx and family: 1campsite Redlance and family: 1cabin Still waiting to hear from: OmahaSubaru
