  1. Archemitis and I have been talking it over too and just dont think it would be wise to make this trip. I hate to back out but it's just not the best timing First is the finantial situation. I'll be spending about $200 just to get my rig upto par (rear struts, exhuast, tire dismount/mount/balance, misc parts). I figure about $60 in gas just for getting there and back. Another $25 or so in food. Then $75 to register there. $xx.xx in whatever breaks/goes wrong. It ads up fast. It sounds like McBrat would be the only other subaru guy there with the possibility of Syrinx and Subu Luvr. I'm sure the other club guys are great but if we are just gonna meet one maybe 2 other USMB members hell I could make a road trip to Iowa and do that for alot less $ I also have little REAL trail experience and being that I'm so far from home I wouldnt really be wheeling that hard. Sounds like just a few of us localy are going to go to Northfield MN (about 40 miles south of the cities) where an old farmer now runs a small ORV park. We prolly wont even camp so it will be a $20 trip in gas and entry fee. This will be a more realistic trail run to break in both me and my battle wagon. Peace and good luck on the trail! ps take pics so i know just what I missed!!
  2. It's REALLY hard to tell untill you pull all that dang plastic out of the way. Could be several things doing it but I'm sure its more then just one culprit If it is the pump that is a pretty easy fix. Reseal kit was like $8 from checkers and you can do it in an afternoon. Never done the cam seals but I would imagine its a bit more involved since the timing belts have to come off and then go back on properly. That can be a pain. Might wanna plan a weekend to just knock them all out at once? If yo uare going to take off all the timing guards, belts, pullies etc to see whats leaking you might as well fix them while you are in there
  3. Allyboy: I think FleetFarm carries a similar product. Used for painting farm machinery. Stuff hardents to a hard shell surface. Very durable when used correctly. Also has that nice oil enamle gloss finish. I know what you mean with the orange peal effect That happend to my battle wagon when I painted it with a black semigloss enamel. When I came back for the second coat I had waited to long and the second coat didnt "flow" but mearly speckled onto the already sticky base coat Man was I pissed! 100+ hours of sanding and prep work just to paint on a black orange peel! :temper:
  4. Before modifying an AC condensor into another 'radiator' I would invest in a 2 or 3 core radiator. Why use a condensor and single row radiator to achieve what a 2 or 3 row radiaotr is designed to do? A nice 2 row and an oil cooler would keep you plenty cool. I picked up an OEM oil cooler for an EA82 from a guy in Europe where they came standard. Shouldnt be TOO hard to get your hands on one or an aftermarket one. Just my 2 cents
  5. There is atleast three on my SPFI. Send, Return and Vent I belive are their functions. All 3 run from engine bay to gastank. The vent goes all the way up the neck of the fill tube also.
  6. We jacked up the front left high enough to fit the castle nut through the center of the rim with the 30" mounted on it. It's close enough to make me get one mounted on a pug rim and see what I can do to make it fit. I'll get one mounted by this SAT night for when some guys are coming over to help out. SHould also be getting the 4WD in with the blocks that night. Next on the list is 4WD dual range. bushbasher : I belive you are correct on the strut clearance. However the pug rims have some negative offset which sucks that tire right snug to the spring cup on the strut. Again so close I'll just have to see with one mounted on a pug. ShawnW : Now thats what I'm talking about! I think the tires I have are VERY similar... they are "Radial Baja - Widetrack" . I cant quite read the letters on those but I see Baja
  7. Oh how great they are... My first gent 1990 Legacy wagon was awsome! It only gave me minor problems here and there. Mostly funny electrical quirks in the cabin. The worst problems I had with it was a fuel injector (that was hard beucase I had never diagnosed an MPFI engine nor worked on an MPFI system! but man did I learn alot) and a wheel bearing went out. I gave that thing hell. Put on around 100 miles a day, every day for months at a time. Drove it hard! She loved to be manualy shifted Pulled hard and snaped your neck a bit when shifting her by hand. Gave her away to a friend with 178,000 miles or so on it. He broke it a week later, moved back to texas and left it for the city. My 1988 GL wagon has been kind of a lemon. Its a weird little car. Something will break, I pull it in and fix it, go to drive her and something completly irrelivent has broke just sitting there. I dont get it. I orginaly bought the car as a winter beater so I could park my hot rod (1981 Buick Regal w/ 472ci engine + TH350 tranny) By the time winter was over I was IN LOVE Even when I cracked a head, started pissing coolant everywhere, and mixing oil with coolant the whole way I said "No way can I sell this! I'm rebuilding it!" They all thought I was crazy... and still do ANyway Subarus rule!
  8. I could honestly make those 30"s fit??? I saw one post http://usmb.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=382 where someone claimed they used 30"s. Only other time Ive seen 30"s or more was on the Monster Subaru and some BRATS. If I could fit them I'd be in hog heaven but I didnt think it would be even be worth my time. I have a friend coming over again tonight... maybe we'll jack up the front really high and see what they look like in there. I have NO issues with sawzall and pouding the crap out of my Subaru but it would be pretty sad to go through all that and they dont fit LOL Thx U
  9. It's simply a toy. This wont be a dialy driver at all but I dont want to have to use a trialer to get anywhere with it. She needs to be highway worthy. Noise of the tires does not bother me. Handeling isnt a big deal either since I wont be going fast in it. I'm not very extreem so really it will just be a trail rig. Mud terrain would be nice but that negates my key factor... price.
  10. buahaha I love it! thats great those rims are big pimp'n too.
  11. Ive been reading over the archived posts about tires. Lots of great info but its almost all geared twoard 14" rims. I am almost done installing a 3" BYB/Ozified lift in my 1988 GL wagon. The rims I have are 15" steel pugeots. I'll be needing some tires to put on the rims here very soon. What metric sizes fit??? Right now all I can confirm that fit are: 215/75 R15 225/70 R15 225/75 R15 Right now I have a set of old crappy 30" x 10.5" x 15 " mud terrains. I bought them about a year or so ago for $20 (for all 4 on rims, it was a steal) They are technicly 29" by 9.5" but every time I look at them.. and then the wagon... I see why everyone told me all those years back "they wont fit!" It looks very close but honestly I just dont think I can make them fit right now. Only real way to tell would be to mount one on a pug and try to make it fit but what a waste of time and money to get one dismounted, mounted and fiddle with for a few hours. Please insert all "I TOLD YOU SO!"s at the bottom of your reply, they are well deserving :boohoo: but I will say this, and I've always stood by it : you can do anything with enough time and money Too bad I have little of both hahaha... anyway back on topic morgan! Right now I'm leaning twoard these selections: Liberator A/T from Wal-Mart http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?product_id=1819311&cat=0&type=28&dept=91083&path=0%3A91083&vehicle_path=false&tire_width=225&tire_ratio=70&tire_diameter=14 Kumho Road Venture AT 825 from TireRack.com http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Kumho&tireModel=Venture+AT+825&vehicleSearch=false&partnum=175SR5AT825C&fromCompare1=yes Pirelli Scorpion A/T from TireRack.com http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Pirelli&tireModel=Scorpion+A%2FT&vehicleSearch=false&partnum=175SR5SCORATOWL&fromCompare1=yes Anything I can find at the junkyard that fits! Problem is I need a full set of 4. There also isnt much too choose from... kinda get what they got and thats about it I dont have alot of money here to spend so price is a key factor. I also dont want some wussy all season tread. Just need something thats cheap and will dig in good. Please post all suggestions in metric format. Its very hard looking up tires by size in inches becuase almost nobody measures them like that. Thanks.
  12. I have 15" steel pugs to mount them on. I dont know the offset other then it has lots of negitve offset just like my Subaru rims.
  13. Thanks McBrat. Think those Coopers woudl fit in size 235/75/ R15 ? I'll see if I can track down a local seller. Thx
  14. 30"x9" ? what vehicle? how did you make them fit? Anyone one else ran 30"s ?
  15. What size are these tires exactly? http://community.webshots.com/s/image5/8/80/3/60788003oEuwFy_ph.jpg http://community.webshots.com/s/image6/9/92/51/76299251QiaXkr_ph.jpg And what did it take to make them fit? Thx
  16. A yard aroundh ere does that once a year. Its great! Thats how I got my 4WD rear end. I dunno if anyone has ever carried an entire rear subframe assembly (only thing I took off was the struts!) but its HEAVY! Well worth it for $30 however. McBrat I'll be anxiouse to see your air setup. I was hoping someone there would have some onboard air for airing up tires and such.
  17. It's 2:25 AM and I just got in from the garage. I cant belive it but my friend JLee was able to drill out and extract the broken bolt for the right rear strut bracket! We pretty much finished off the front half and lowerd her to the ground. Still alot of work to get done and parts to get. Its late.. i should ... sleep ...now... :eh:
  18. Naw Subu will be on 13"s in his hatch now that I think about it... if I cant fit on these tires I got I'll be on 13"s too!!! unless I can find somethign at a junkyard...
  19. So its $75 per vehicle and I bring a friend in my vehicle we can split that evenly; correct? Sounds a little steep but I guess thats for camping and a pass into the park for both days which I sounds more reasonable. I've never been to a real ORV park so I cant really judge but I was talking to a Jeep guy at work here and he was a little supprised at the registration price. I dont think I will preregister now since its too late to get the t-shirt but I will definatly fill this out and bring it with. Who do I give this too to get properly registerd at the event? It says you can register on site for the same $ but no t-shirt included. Subu luvr : great we can all caravan down. safety in numbers I say Your hatch will do fine towing me home... i mean in the dirt Archemitis: since your rig is pretty much ready to go can you be on spare parts detail? i have a feeling we will need axles and alternaters! LOL I only have one spare axle assembly. We'll talk about that more tho later. Peace
  20. Welp I talked to my wife and it looks like that weekend is free for us. She will not be coming with however (she thinks I'm crazy ) but Archemitis said he would like to go. This would be great seeing how I will be breaking down either on the way down or on the way back up (preferably the latter!) I have half of my lift kit in and still making progress every day. 3 weeks should be enough to get her Highway and Trail ready. Looks like about a 4-5 hour drive by this map. http://maps.yahoo.com/maps_result?csz=Mapleton%2C+IA+51034-1271&state=IA&uzip=51034&ds=n&name=&desc=&ed=gzTMb.p_0Toy2E4W9arZxxmKtESITYC6vuUI6OAn0dp31nmHrbC88TsddBmBy6Vm9sdlZe3PNxYz79U-&BFClick=&BFKey=&resize=s&mag=5 Do you recomed the camp grounds or would a hotel be more suiting? Some camp grounds are uh.. pretty rough Hope to see you there and I'll report back as more details emerge. Thx
  21. Ya good idea. A dry start isnt a big deal on a normal filter since its pretty small and wont take long to prime. That huge filter takes a while to fill up im sure! Antidrainback is the way to go
  22. I'm all about that paint job. It's ultrapimptastic! The 360 looks neat too. Kinda like an old bug mated with a new Mini
  23. Did you let your hobbit use the digicam again???
  24. EVERYTHING Get all that you can now and throw away what you dont need later becuase if you do it the other way around you will have a long project on your hands
