I was thinking the same thing. They share that quality with their illegitimate ancestor, the air-cooled VW. The only way to really get any performance out of it, is to rev the crap out of it. It would be nice to have a highway gear though. Would a larger tire give you a little help with the RPM's?

My Brat's new radio console...

That's a nice job. Looks like an actual upgrade from SOA. I'm going to do something similar with my GL soon. Hope I can get mine to look that good. No HACK jobs for me. -
They talk a bit about it here - http://usmb.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3718&highlight=%2Ajdm+engines%2A If that's what you were talkin' about.

Having to send an axle all the way back to Florida if it goes bad is a pretty big pain in the rump roast, though I have heard alot of good things about their axles. You're lucky if you can find a good rebuilder in your immediate area to save the down time associated with replacing a bunk axle. Quality of the boots always seems to be a problem for me. Good Luck!

Sounds like something I would do. Consider it a good workout and take a break. -

Whatever it is, it sure isn't a Cali. plate. Check this out http://usmb.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=42&highlight=avatars Then go to your "user cp" and select "edit options". At the bottom of the page you can add your personal pic or whatever.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't those Washington plates on that Brat? He says in the description that it's a California car. And what the hell is a 5 spoke wheel?
-
That's what I figured. Thanks for the reply. I'll keep an eye out for those pics. I live about a mile or two from Oakland, so I'm used to the ghetto style.

Does anyone make a short throw shifter or kit for EA82's? I thought I saw one online, but can't remeber where.

Good call SubaruJunkie. Wheel bearing is toast. Thanks to everyone for the responses.

GCK Axles- Anyone tried these?

ARI and CCT are the same company, so I guess it's kind of a crap shoot when buying them. Carquest says ARI builds their CV's and of course CCT makes them for NAPA. I doubt either would put their name on a piece of shiite. Of course that doesn't mean you aren't still going to get some rubes in the bunch. I think I remember someone saying they got nothing but junk CCT's from Autozone. Go figure. Probably didn't cross his fingers when he bought 'em. Anyone tried A1 Cardone axles? -
Does anyone have the TSB's for the GL wagons? One in particular that I wanted to see is - #124589 -JUN 89 - Door Glass Stabilizer Modification Figured this would help me fix my rattlin' window.

Damn! That's COOL!

I think it's beyond help..... Is it?

I feel for ya. My 86 "Blubaru" game to a grinding halt last month.:boohoo: Not worth fixing. -
Unfortunately, I broke off ties with my buddy Goldfinger a while back, so I won't be getting any gold plugs anytime soon. That's what I was thinkin' too Archemitis. Like a good plug to twist into your old ladies ride or something. Set it and forget it! And I've seen 'em for $10.67 a piece. They'll probably keep getting cheaper and cheaper too.

When I'm going about 25-35 I hear a squeak coming from my front wheel on the passenger side. It gets alot louder if I let off on the gas. Braking doesn't change the sound. If I throw it in neutral it goes away. Outer CV? I've heard a click a couple of times when it's cranked, but very faint. Boots are fine.

Thanks for the input everyone! I've read that copper is the best, it just doesn't last very long. I wouldn't expect a performance boost from platinums or iridiums, just a longer, cleaner lifespan. I was thinking that the iridium's would be good for someone who doesn't like doing maintenance on their car. Or people like myself who tend to put it off for too long. I was curious because I saw Iridium Denso's going for $10 at http://www.drivewire.com. Rock on!

Anyone tried these on an EA82? How about those Bosch Platinum 4's? All hype or what?
-
I was thinkin' the same thing, with the air ducts. With some custom molded scoops as part of the fiberglass body. Assuming it has a body. That would be cool. No pun intended.
-
I have also just been through a similar scenario. The car only got hot when I got up to around 55-65. Needed a new radiator. Once they start to clog up, they're toast, don't bother flushing. If it's an airflow problem and you can't fix it, how about a lower temp. thermostat? Or a double-row radiator? Assuming you don't already have one. Not sure how much help that fan is on the back like that. It looks like you might need some kind of small scoop underneath to pull up air from below, and onto your radiator. Or maybe some side scoops? More potent fan maybe? Good luck, the trike looks cool. Man, those old VW's didn't have to worry about this. They had it easy.

Cool. Thanks for the info everyone! And thanks for sticking to the subject. That seems to be a real problem around this forum.
