  1. Don't litter the woods around Fairbanks. I'll pay the $5 for you to take it to the dump. Or dump it a piece or 2 at a time in dumpsters around town.
  2. For $150 how could you go wrong? Contact Snowman for info - he may want some parts.
  3. Is the value of the trashwagon worth the expense and potential jail time?
  4. Torxxx, what's the deal with shipping? Have you confirmed it yet? Kelly are you in a position to make the purchase soon? Being a poor college studentonce, I know how you may need to plan in advance. Jon, are you in? Did you find the next generation battle wagon yet? Let's firm this up and make it happen.
  5. CArmen, this topic has had many thorough discussions - try emissions tests or emissions testing.... You can also PM Ed Rach. He is well versed on this topic and can easily lead you through steps to get you through an IM inspection. And Ed is a genuinely great guy, also.
  6. Buy it now price of $70 for the owner's manual? WOW!
  7. I don't mean to take exception to your comment as I don't believe you meant any slight by it, but those who I hunt and fish with are more concerned about the environment and keeping the wilderness wild than most of the weekend warriors who venture out into the wilderness once in a while. I have certainly learned more from adventures with fellow hunters and fishermen about keeping the environment pristine than I would have from any other venue. Don't discount the knowledge, experience and intent of this group of outdoorspeople based on the selfish, drunken antics from a bunch of wannabes.
  8. Live in beautiful Eagle River/Chugiak. It's a 20 min commute.
  9. e-mail him. I had a cell phone # but it's no longer valid. I know where he lives if you want me to visit his house. Let me know.
  10. a board member - ed dahl - makes them. He's got them for sale on e-bay from time to time, but you can PM him and he'll sell you what you need.
  11. The IM program in AK is pretty well-educated and fairly rigidly enforced. The only areas that enforce it (Anchor town and Squarebanks) have inspectors who are pretty anally retentive about it. The outlying areas usually don't offer inspections as thay don't require them. I wish I knew of a place to go where I could get through witha Weber and no cat.
  12. I'm ready to order as soon as you firm up the shipping deal and everybody else is set to go. BWM is the junkyard guy PM him. I haven't seen him lately on the board. He might be taking a time out.
  13. Ifit's mechanically sound, it's a good deal. You can get blue book easy enough on the net - kell blue book under a search. Even Yahoo has blue book values.
  14. 300 miles from you would put you into Texas area for certain, and there are a few members from the board there. maybe they can help.
  15. Amazing how it's always the little things (buy the weber anyway).
  16. Don't let Torxxx's mention of gangs scare you too much. What passes for gang activity in AK is pretty small potatoes compared the real world. There are some wannabes but no real gangsters here. Ilive about 25 miles from Anchortown and work in the Valley. My wife works in Anchorage so we split the commute. It's about a half hour and it's 4 lanes in both directions. No big deal. There really is no such thing as traffic jams. If you do decide to move keep us informed. We can help.
  17. go buy a windshield knife, heat the blade with a propane torch and go at it. Another trick is to take a jig saw and make a sharpened blade for it from an old piece of banding material. Cit it out from inside the car, but be careful not to cut too far and ruin the paint on the outside. After you've removed about 300 of them, they're pretty easy.
  18. It says it will "except" [sic] chrome moldings. I assume they're talking about the chrome (plastic civered) zip strip to seal it. It could also mean that it has the pocket for the rigid chrome (real chrome) stiffeners that slide into narrow grooves before you rope the shield and gasket in. I would e-mail the seller and find out which style it is. I'd also ask if it is NOS or who the manufacturer is as I've had difficulty with knock-offs that don't fit well and you end up fighting it just to get it on the shield.
  19. Is your oil that whipped mousse consistency, of a kind of heavily creamed-up coffee? If so, you're probably correct in your assumption. Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings. Good news is that now you get to practice your mechanic skills.
  20. Fairbanks = "It's COLD in them thar hills.":D
  21. Kelly, sounds like a great idea. just an idea - SCARE = Subaru Club of Alaska Recreational Enthusiasts. I'll think about it some more and come up with other options.
  22. I can just see this front end crashing through the wilderness of Alaska - NOT! It might make it through the first 2 mudpubbles, but it would never make it past the mudholes and rock-strewn trails I've been on. Bad idea.
  23. Call Dave MIller's Subaru in Eagle River and explain your situation to him, or better yet, go visit him and see his set up. You will have some ideas for your own shop in the future. He'll help you out if he can.
  24. great idea. But, Kelly, if you can come up with the design, I can get the stickers printed locally - cheap.
