Sticking axles in sitting car?!
NoahDL88 replied to bgd73's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If it only happens when you use the brakes, its brake related. I'd also suggest checking on the other side brakes if you haven't yet. Also try to shake each wheel with them off the ground, if they move your rear bearings are toast, happened to me twice. also you should check your front pads and rotors, as if you have a shake from the steering wheel your front rotors could be warped as well. -
A lightened flywheel does not loose torque, it looses inertia:rolleyes:

The oil impregnated air filters are hell on your MAF, It won't burn out immidiately, but with time you're gonna have to replace it, maybe after a year or so. Also, if they really increased fuel economy, the OEM's would use them standard. Your butt dyno won't be able to tell a difference, it may be louder, but won't be faster.

Fingers crossed, i'll have my 5 lug swap done by then, even if i'm running smaller studded tires, and not the full on swampers. I land sunday morning, and will be picking up bits for the swap in portland that afternoon, and will be getting axles later in the week. Which should spell sucess by saturday.

I'll be coming up some time from Marysville, i remember someone named Scott in Bellingham promising a skid plate for free.

About 10% of the cars that come in to our shop have the froth look under the oil cap, its just a fact of life living in the PNW, gotta get the car hotter (long drives) to burn out the water in the oil from condensation. It's probably no big deal, but if you start loosing coolant, or your oil level goes up, its a head gasket.

I almost wrecked a friends cougar, whipped the wheel over and hit the lock at around 25 mph, though i was gonna make the turn, would have in the subie, luckily the brakes were adequate and i was able to stop in time. In the shop i'm always doing 4 and 5 point turns just to get some rigs on the lift, in the subie, no matter how i come in, i can always get her to line up first go.

Coilovers are a last case option, i'm gonna grind down my OBS rear struts and see if i can make them work. my problem isn't a lack of bling, or handling, its an offroader, and the pearches rub on my swampers.

I'm going impreza bits. problem solved, at least we'll see next week, after i get the parts.

It looks like you have 2 choices. 1. go with the companies that everyone here has been so gracious to suggest to you 2. go to your local Subaru dealer, pay an arm and a leg, and get an OEM radiator Or i guess you have a 3rd choice, you can continue to ignore all the posts and keep asking if people have preferences. -
Huzzah for teh spell checker What i think i'm gonna do, is go with impreza axles with the GL inner cup, and impreza knuckles brakes and hubs. Those should work, I hope, and i'll be swapping in an RX tranny soon, (within a year fingers crossed) so once i do that i'll either have the 25 spline front diff, or i'll keep the 23 spline cause i'll have the case apart anyway.

I was also unaware that they came in colors other than white and black, but either way, the red suits it, it looks real nice.

The XT-6 to Outback sport struts was the least of my problems, i used a 20mm Snap-on socket and bashed it into the strut opening, and was able to put the knuckle in that way.
-
Its a 5mt, dual range, non turbo, the 23 spline one. I was able to get the EA inner cup on a Gen 1 Impreza axle, so i've put a post up on NWIC to see if i can get a set of impreza front bits as a last resort. As great as the front e-brake is, at this point it comes secondary to running, and theres always the 240sx? rear caliper swap.

So, i got a couple of problems, the tire rub i can figure out on my own, but I'm running into a grand fubar with the axles. I'm currently running XT-6 hubs outboard, and the GL non turbo tranny inboard. The problem i'm having is that i can't get the inner race for the inner cup to fit on the XT-6 axle, but I was able to get the GL cup to fit on an Impreza (gen 1) axle, but i can't now get the XT-6 outer cup to fit on the Impreza inner race. I'm sure that made tons of sense. Anyway, if anyone has put the XT-6 hubs on a non turbo tranny please pipe in, the x-mas tree run is in 2 weeks, and i won't be able to impress the the girls in the Impreza.

The great lakes are the worlds largest supply of FRESH water -
Umm everyone already has dual valves, Its the EJ's that have Quad EJ heads on an EA block would be like polishing a turd.

I have an 84 hatch, that i'll be doing a motor swap on, and probably up grading the interior, so if theres anything that you need let me know, and i'll try to get it to you as soon as i'm done with it. ( I gotta keep it mobile until i get rid of my impreza) BTW congrats on your recovery, no vigilaties needed !!

Seeing ngk's fire.. while in cyl head?
NoahDL88 replied to bgd73's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
? Sure ok Anyway, i've also fallen prey to the bosch trap, there no good in Japanese engines. Stick with the 1.49 NGK's and i promise you won't be dissapointed also, while you're in there don't forget the wires, as has been mentioned, but also the distributor cap and rotor. -
Oh yeah, i couldn't remember who that was, but yeah, i sure did AWD guy puts turbo legacy up for sale I make offer He accepts He says someone else has made an offer and is closer 2 weeks later calls me up and says its up again I reserve a U-haul and a pickup truck friday, 5pm the day before i was to pick up said T-leg i get a phone call saying the deal is off, the original buyer found the money. I scurry like a cat on fire to cancel the U haul and to find Tex to let him know that he doesn't need to drive across town to get his grandpa's truck. all wheels driven may drive all wheels, but there not running on all cylinders

We don't call em G63 where i work, i can tell you that. If i was gonna put an engine from ford into a subie, it would probably be the 3.0 V-6 from the escape, its no subie, but its definately the best motor reliability wise that ford has right now. That is assuming that every other subaru motor on the planet was unrepairable, and subaru stopped building new cars.

Good call on all wheels driven, and i'll be downloading the rally america rules once i get to my home computer.

I believe that the wheel end of the axle is the same.
