  1. According to the FSM standard compression is 11.0-11.8 bar The lower service limit is 9.0-9.8 depending on cranking speed Subaru reccomends no more than 2 bar, or 28 PSI variation between cylinders It does show an (other) category, which could be MPFI or Carby, i'm not sure, but if its MPFI the lower service limit is 8.5-9.3 Which means you should be fine, but like the rest of us, a new set of rings wouldn't hurt * This is from the 89 XT FSM
  2. depending on if your model is 2 or 4wd, or GL or DL it will call for different sized tires. i believe the STD's called for something as small as 155's and the DL's called for 165's on the EA-81's and on the EA-82's called for 175's on the DL's and 185's on the GL 4WD. BTW, if you can fit the tire without fender trimming, thats Pleadies' way of telling you your tires are too small
  3. could be a vacuume leak, or if its got the special disty that tells the fuel pump to pump, which i don't know if there on the Mpfi, it may not be telling your fuel pump to pump. either way i'm guessing vacuume leak or some kind of fuel delivery issue.
  4. looks great, was just click and it played, no muss no fuss. i've had my fair share of flats too.
  5. Don't feel bad Farva, i had the same problem with my first subie for over a week, but dang if i didn't have a really nice clean dash. Welcome to the club, anyone that says this hasn't happend to them is either lying or a Subie hero.
  6. Too Cool, I was gonna post some lame pics of my OBS off road, but now i just feel inadequate.
  7. I believe what the good doctor is trying to say is, some of the newer Subies have a 1.1:1 center diff ratio, so you will have to make sure that the rear diff you mate up to your transmission is correct as far as if it came from a 1:1 or a 1.1:1 transmission
  8. You don't have the H8, say it fast for obvious reasons it wouldn't be a good marketing idea. you have the H6, but at least you didn't call it a V-6 I dunno about fuses and donut's though
  9. Hey John, 88HatchMonster is making plates now too, If i don't have a tracking number by Friday the 21st, you can just send me my money back.
  10. That exact thing happened to me in Montana, Forsythe to be exact, i don't live in Montana, i live in Michigan, and was driving from Seattle, with a girl. Let me tell you that was not good times. 3 days to get the part, 20 minutes to change the belts in an August rainstorm. BTW, Montana was on fire, and North Dakota was under a tornado watch, good times were had by all.
  11. I believe that VDC is only available with the H-6, if you got the 2.5 you don't have VDC
  12. I believe that because one is AT and the other is MT the axles will not swap, but if the engines are both EA-82's then the engine itself is the same underneath, although some say the compression ratio is different, and others don't. although the difference is only .5 so it won't be noticeable on the good ol' butt dyno. I'd keep everything you have room for, i've kept stuff for years not thinking i'd need it until one day having that part has saved me from a long walk to the parts store.
  13. Nothing beats a Jeep or an old Toy offroad, serious mud and rocks, Ken's brat may be the closest you can get to one of those, and in that case driver skill more than makes up for not having live axles at both ends. Unless you are doing some real hardcore offroading, the Forester should be more than adequate. Depending on where you live, go out with the Hatch Patrol or the Oregon offroad club, and see how they do in an old school subie. As far as AWD and 4WD, 4WD will always be better off road, and lockers will help even more.
  14. That's genius, is it a straight swap?
  15. I can get some pics tomorrow, but i have em in 2/3 cars, don't use them as much offroading as i do for knowing when to slow down on the highway, CH 19 for teh CB noobs
  16. Welcome, we got a few people here in michigan, I'm in detroit, (ish) Just thought i'd let you know before any one else yells, but we tend to shy away from using all caps, its the computer equivilant of screaming, unless of course thats what you were going for. If you're anywhere near the Novi area on Tuesday nights around 7:00PM we meet at a BW3 in Fountain walk mall, look for the row of WRX's and whatever old school car i have that week. once you're inside ask for Subaru, no joke.
  17. I like to see the best in people, that may make me naive. Many other people have gotten their adapter plates from John, some right before John promised me mine, so my assumption was that he was producing them at a rate fast enough to give me mine. If he's on vacation, that sucks for me i guess, and his voicemail will be full when he gets home, unless his wife is erasing them. Emails and PM's have also been sent, short of going to Eugene Oregon myself all my options have been exhausted. I may be out for a friends wedding in November, and he said he'd like to spend his honeymoon in John's driveway camped out until everyone, EVERYONE gets what they need, adapter plates, bumpers and vehicle titles included. I'd say John that gives you till mid november untill you got two squatters on your front porch. i got a tent and a -40 sleeping bag, so i'll be good for the winter.

  19. First off, Welcome. Second off, this is the off road forum, we know mud, not keys, i'm sure a moderator will move this to new gen, so if you can't find it later that's where it will be. as far as your problem, you should be able to get the right cylinder from the dealership, which if you replace it yourself will be the biggest cost. You'll have to take off the inner pannel of the door and go in from there, pretty easy job, just be careful not to ruin all the plastic clips that hold the door skin to the door frame. Good luck.
  20. having driven every engine that subaru makes, 4 cylinders at any rate, i'm going with the EJ22, sure the EA-81 is bullet proof, but in an EJ, you never have to mess with timing, tuneup intervals are spread farther with the EJ, and lets be honest, the EJ22 has 20 years newer technology in it, which arguably makes it better. If i was to stick my mom in an older, 95 and older subie, i would stick her in any subie with an EJ22, cause she can't and won't deal with the little problems that creap up with an older subaru with old school parts. FWIW, the EJ's that i've driven with high miles run much better than the EA's with high mileage. Final note, the EJ22 dosn't have the carb problems that the EA-81 does, Game, Set, Match.
  21. When driving in water, you have 2 big problems, the first being that water gets every where, and if it dosn't stop you cold in your tracks it will cause rust and electrical headaches later. The thing i would do for that would be to relocate the air intake, i believe on the newer subies they do not have a mas airflow sensor, so the intake past the throttle body is not really necessary, unless you have the MAF. you should be able to get a short ram that points a cone style air filter straight back, which would take care of a lot of your possible water issues, except your cooling fans, which i would use a manual switch override for that. Lastly, when you are done with the water, your brakes, especially your rear drums will be ineffective until you get a bunch of that water boiled off, so a hard stop of 100 feet will be necessary before you actually can feel the brakes grab. Don't go too fast, you'll want a bow wave, but don't go too slow either, your engine bay will fill with water easily that way. Good luck, and take pictures
  22. Still no reply, i've emailed PM'd and phoned and nothing, not even a its not ready responce.

  24. Turbo heads won't bolt up to the SPFI intake however, so unless you are swapping intake and wiring, i don't see it working
  25. Snowman and Austin, i hate to burst your bubble, but i think SOA would only get excited if we made the trip in vehicles they still sell on the showroom floor. Maybe we could get them to give us some new ones!!!
