  3. A DOG, EPA estimates for an 81 subie is about 30 MPG, you should be doing better than 9
  4. with the smallest BFG allterrain's they make on an 1980 with a 2.2, i regularly get around 26mpg highway.
  5. I see why you guys from OZ/NZ do the disty swap, but here in the usa we don't have that option, unless we ship parts from you guys, which i'm sure as you know is probably more expensive then the part itself. However with offroad puddles, its nice to not have a disty to get filled with water. The swap is still on hiatus, still waiting for the adapter plate. argh. but it should be here this week, so depending on stuff i have to do this week, and when the plate gets here, she should be running by friday. Edited portion: Can you run the propane with the distributorless ignition, cause with gas prices the way they are that dosn't sound like such a bad idea here either.
  6. Thats why i love the DL headlights, its almost a Delorean, i'm even thinking a Flux Capacitor may be in order.
  7. Subies have a different order Front left Rear Right Front right Rear Left That is straight out of the 87 Factory service manual.
  8. once the car is warm, don't let it get too hot, run your hand from the bottom to the top of the radiator on both sides, if there are cold spots there are clogged spots.
  9. Well, still no adapter plate. But i did get some work done. Can you hear me now? almost ready to go

  11. Jack the front of the car up, spin one wheel at a time and see if only one side makes a noise, then you've at least got it down to a side. Good luck
  12. the control arm would be my guess, it has 2 bolts on the lower suspension arm, and bolts to the body in the rear. I seem to bend those rather frequently offroad.
  13. When my Ex-"pink-martini" bought her 88GL 2 years ago it had 24K on it
  14. I think i figured out our discrepancy, between SPFI and Carby, the CAI may have opposite effects.
  15. depending on the orientation of the coil pack, one cylinder could be affecting the other. i dunno if its left right or front back. obviously the basics, check plugs, wires for resistance. worst case swap out a coil if you have a spare.
  16. Maybe you guys do it differnt out west, but i want to reiterate my point, without the CAI, i ran into a lot more trouble in the water than i did with it. Best solution is to rotate it back, i'll see about a pic if i can get around to it
  17. don't quote me on this, but i think you can also look for the sedans, at least that's my hope, i'm putting a 91 Legacy 5mt into a 96 OBS.
  18. I had much worse luck after i remvoved the "snorkus" soaked the filter much easier. If you unscrew a few wire tiedowns you can rotate the entire intake tube, airbox and Maf into the spare tire area so it goes straight back. that will stop water under all but extreme circumstances.
  19. SSR-02R 27x9.50R14LT Actual Diameter: 27.5 There radials so they don't get flat spots, this is on the 88, with the 3/3 Ozified lift.
  20. Junkyard would have them, for about 3 years i had a Focus mirror on my drivers side glued to the broken Subie mirror, till my friend broke it off.
  21. These are some decals i picked up from the dealership about 5 months ago. i'm pretty sure i have the entire "woodie" set, but i'm not sure. I do however have about 10-15 sets of the "rally stripe" some just say subaru, some say 5 speed and a few say 4wd.
  22. Cool, i told my mom that she should get rid of that volvo for a Subie, she said " only if its a hybrid" i think we're in business now
  23. I've never offroaded a turbo, but i've driven enough turbo's to know that i'd rather not have one offroad, the lower compression means its a dog until the turbo comes on, which means no crawling. when the turbo comes on it comes on hard, which may offset the delicate ballance of traction and momentum. if you're looking at more of a rock runner, when you have higher rpm and are using an auto tranny, it would work better, but for the typical "Hatch Patrol" type stuff, i can't see a turbo being an advantage. I guess in the end it all boils down to personal preference.
  24. It seems a lot of the guys that do the swap leave on a whole buch of stuff that isn't needed, according to the kennedy adapter wiring harness write up, you need a whole lot less, which means down the road there will be a whole lot less to go wrong.
