  1. its been discussed before. I think the verdict was the rims were not designed to handle everyday use. Likely will bend or break and be unsafe. Especially with meatier tires on them. Get pugs of redrill 6 lugs.
  2. Better than the MPG I get in the Baja with similar engine / HP I get 25 or so on a 30 mile commute on the freeway plus some city errands. It may take you a while to get it dirty too.... I still havn't de-virginized my Baja with a rallycross yet 2 years later... it still has the cosmoline on the bottom! I cant cover it with mud just yet.
  3. I guess I should mention... I have the proper CDL endorsements to drive a water truck if we need to hose down the mud pit
  4. all the guages go from 0 to full (to test) when you first start the car.
  5. you may be able to get a rust free carcass from down here in the US (like seattle or portland) and then transfer all your stuff over (engine, trans, <cough> vin <cough> and interior to it)
  6. I'm there... maybe I can break the streak and drag my wife along
  7. Wow congrats... just dont leave the headlights on (I cant believe they deleted that feature) I assume it goes without saying that you will keep the undercarriage nice and washed out
  8. the doors have frames and the headlights dont turn themselves off.... i thought they were a subaru
  9. I know some parts are hard to find... but I also hear some parts can still be ordered from your local dealer It will likely be at least a year before I start persuing looking for one, but at least my wife thought of the idea
  10. I was just looking at random subaru pictures. (come on who DOESNT??) And my wife saw the 360 and was like "its so cute you should get one" Hmmmmm think it would fit in the back of the Baja so I could use it as a dingy She liked the coupe the best.
  11. I woulda bought it just to watch it turn over to 500,000
  12. its also an 85 so it has the shaped 4WD shifter instead of the nice low profile S shaped one with the tiny knob on the end that they used on 86+
  13. I have considered making a front clip into a car-b-que (open the hood to reveal a BBQ) I have seen one on a 70's nova before. It was basically just fenders forward with flat metal firewall. It was on a trailer frame so the headlights on the clip pointed rearward if that makes sense
  14. and if you dont know when they were done last... while you are in there... change the water pump and reseal the front main and cam seals as well as the oil pump. Particularly the "mickey mouse" gasket. (thats what it looks like)
  15. Is this all the dealer is offering you or something?? There ARE other fish in the sea (preferibly japanese models) Though if your credit is so so you may have to take what you can get. I think the Aveo will be more reliable given that the 300 is OLD by comparison. What you save in gas will pay for any repairs it may need too.
  16. the choke and the opening at the top of the carb both look like hitachi to me as well. I think a carter-weber is backwards from that and has different components.
  17. so is just the block and stuff non turbo or do you mean that it was more or less converted to an NA legacy (with no turbo or any of the fun things its supposed to have)
  18. Being tired from waking up at 3:45 in Bend OR this morning.... it was VERY easy to squint and see it after you said that. Good job
  19. dont get me wrong... I love the baja.... its had almost 21000 trouble free miles in just a little over 2 years. (ok other than the rear lighter not working and a taillight in the tailgate burning out.... WARRANTY!!) But driving around 5 days a week around the PNW I see old school wagons rolling around everywhere. There is just a certain charm to an EA82. (even if my freightliner CAN pass them on a steep grade when I am empty) No I am not going to buy one yet... the house and remodeling bills associated with it come first. But maybe after the fence and central air are in. I will consider rejoining the old school side Thinking maybe this time an 88 GL with a 3 inch lift? I cant rallycross anymore as I rarely get sunday off. (I can by request... hell I got today off because I worked my tail off the last 2 weeks) I live in emissions land so it would be nice not to deal with a carb anymore (weber or not) Feel free to shoot suggestions, encouragement, whatever... For those who dont know.... the old GL with 321K... RIP
  20. I drive a freightliner.... when the exhaust brakes are on, gotta double clutch. When its empty though... clutch... who needs a stinking clutch just float the gears
  21. Ya, people were trying to steal the cats off the Dodge Sprinter vans at my wifes work (grocery deliver vans) at like 3PM
  22. Well craig came over today and welded up some tiny holes in the midpipe... hopefully that will help. Most action my welder has seen in over a year
  23. had it on my 87 GL before I swapped to a better carb.... yes the hose by the alt goes nowhere.... I assume its either a drain, or a place to suck in fresh air. the other one next to it that goes into the valve cover is PCV
