I should have posted the side view of both carbs, it shows the gear mechanism opening both throttles at once. Pardon the glare off the 38, it was brand spankin new when photographed.

When you remove the charcoal canister, do not put a cork in the line that vents the fuel tank, just leave it open and tuck it up by the strut tower. I didn't believe the guys on here that said plugging it can cause the fuel pump not to run due to vapor-lock. The car drove fine for so long I forgot about the plugged vent line...until I started having mysterious fuel pump voodoo. Qman was the one to ask if I had plugged that vent line. Yup that fixed it. Hey get rid of that A/C crap you don't need that heavy stuff. Just kidding.

Here's a side by side shot. 32/36 DGwhateverV on the left, 38/38 DGAS on the right.

On converting water or electric chokes to manual, I've been told that the $10 kit from any auto parts store will work fine. Haven't tried it myself though.

FMIC / Legacy Radiator Setup
Mike W replied to subarurx's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
That's the trickest IC install on a RX I've seen so far. Larger radiator and IC out in front...that's about as cool as you can get without major frontal reconstruction. I like the fact that the IC isn't on top, not just for functionality but also because it's not in the way if you need to swap engines in a hurry. The expansion tank looks a lot like ones I've seen in Porsche 924s and Audis. Nice work and good luck at the races! -
I saw over on AuSubaru.com they were talking about your strut mods. Subaru should have made the struts like that in the first place so we could swap cartriges. http://www.ausubaru.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=lifts;action=display;num=1077249331 So how did the project turn out? Is it drivable yet and how's it working? Have you done any other suspention or axle mods to go with it? Thanks

some new pics... CB and "console"

None of that foofoo plastic or varnished wood crap for Mick, he's all about function now! Right on man. I have my fire extinguisher in that location too, but laying down on it's side. Are they supposed to be stored upright? Oops I bet they are. Oh well I'll find out when I need it. Your switch box looks almost identical to mine. I mounted it to the dash on the left side where the fog and passing light switches normally go. -
new and improved? carb fuel pump
Mike W replied to Skip's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The aircooled VW crowd also seem to think that's a great pump for feeding Webers. I can't see any reason to spend twice or three times as much for Carter, Holley, etc. -
Holy smokes I remember that car! Very cool that you got it! Did he ever dyno that 13b? Must be one whoopass RX! Hope you don't mind driving it up to Washington for WCSS6 this summer. Maybe it could even meet it's cousin, a certain blue RX? I was thinking the same thing about the adapter plate! Lot's of 13b's at PullaPart these days.

How about a raincheck? Maybe for late March or April? I used to ride there back in the 80's. It was a cool place then but what's it like now? Any pictures?

Run into a telephone pole in a parking lot because you're checking out a 20 year old... Subaru (not girl.) -
HP trail run Saturday AM!
Mike W replied to Mike W's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Yep I have video of that. As so often happens with pics, it doesn't look as precarious as it was in real life. But if my filming sucks it's because I couldn't decide weather to keep shooting or run over there in case you started tipping. You sure know the tipping point and behaviour of your car. That was some awesome driving. -
What mounting method did Qman use? Seat rail swap? I was probably one of the first to do it so naturally I did it the hardest way possible. I should have just swapped slider rails like folks are doing now but instead I bolted the rear inboard mounts to the seatbelt hole in the tunnel. Then I made brackets to adapt the XT6 seat rail mounts to the EA81 holes in the floor pan. It worked and the positioning is good. But the process was about as much hassle as you describe if not more. I can still get at the hatch release lever but I have to joggle the lever slightly to clear the seat rail. They are nice seats but man the drivers seat with it's height adjust mechanism is heavy. Not a mod for the weight conscious.

I was just wasting some time at the 'puter and found a photo of what that place used to look like. Durham Mine, Aug 1, 1919. It's kinda changed a bit since then huh? The story here -

Hey now that you mention it I heard some nasty knocky noise just as Austin crested the top of the Suburban hill. At the time I attributed it the oil slopping around in the pan and maybe not getting pumped to the top end. Maybe the oil pump crapped out and she was't getting lubed? -

Damn, and that was a sweet sounding engine. As I drove home by myself I was thinking about your engine and wondering how much damage that mud dip had inflicted and life taken out of it. I was thinking more in terms or scored piston walls and that. But it sounds like the mud also got into the oil. Guess it's a good thing there's still plenty of EA81s around. -

Hey it was good to see you all again, it's been a while. I was most impressed with Austin's driving, very skillfull and controlled, power and finese at the right times. I didn't think he'd be able to get his unlifted and unlocked wagon to those places but he did with ease and no carnage. I was also impressed that Patty is so mechanically skilled. Good catch Austin. Rob put on the best show with his wildman routine. Dang, that was cool. Hope there's some pics and video since I didn't have my camera rolling. Zap, Qman, and Mudrat make scary manuevers look casual. These guys have so much experience wheelin' Subarus it boggles the mind. The special guest apparence by Mudrat was a cool surprise. I wasn't too happy about dislocating my strut in the first five minutes of the run but I kinda asked for it. Thanks to Mudrat's ratchet strap technique it held together very nicely. Maybe brand new strut tops aren't such a bad idea. Thanks for going folks and hope to see your pics! -

About Saturday's mud run. (attention Mike W)

Yeah hope Rob can make it. How about other folks? They think Reiter Pit is the only place to play or are they just hibernating with their women? -

Well I'll be there at 7:50. But ehere's everybody else this weekend? -
Ok folks this saturday we're leaving north seattle at 8am and will meet up with Qman and whoever else down there at 4Corners. The plan is to try some trails near Black Diamond and then head east out to near Kangley and Kanaskat. The trail conditions are very loamy and moist with very few rocks. Breakage shouldn't be much of a problem due to minimal friction. This will probably be a half day deal but you could play all day or head on up to Greenwater or Evans Creek for more if you wish. Give me a call at 206 890 1522 for more info.
