  1. Just adjust the cable on the hill holder, no biggie. nipper
  2. Look at it another way. THe sooby can take 5 passengers and luggage. You will have three passngers plus the trailer, and im sure your all under the model size for the avg passenger. Even with the trailer. Just do your fluid changes more often and youll be fine. nipper
  3. I used name brand aftermarket for mine when i had it. nipper
  4. No your asking it to drive nothing more then a hloow shaft that has no resistance to rotation. The viscous coupling needs a resistance to start heating up and operating. If one side is free spinning ( a disconnected ddriveshaft) he is doing it no harm. And the VC only transfers power to the rear. Subarus are FWD by default. nipper
  5. Since there will be minimal drag on the center diff, the visous coupling really wont be doing anything. Also since your VC may already be shot, the point is moot. Now if the halfshaft was locked somehow, then you would fry the viscous coupling.
  6. Leave the filter alone. These transmissions don't shed particles, so no need for it. Also they are tough to get to reseal properly. Remeber that those gaskets have been there for many many many years trouble free. Why mess with something that may cause nothing but heartache later. Use the subaru or whatever you usually use coolant. The car has reached 180,000 miles on the regular stuff, so why mess with a good thing. Any change this late in the game could possibly clog the radiator. Replace the t-stat and radiator cap, and water pump. The first thing you need to do before anything is to flush out the radiator when you start to pull out the engine. You dont want any of the old antifreeze start to solidify when the air hits it. If you really want to do the transmission a favor, add a small cooler to it. Tell your wife not to use the cruise control on mountain roads. Use it on rolling hills or flat surfaces only. Everyone will be much happier that way. Also i recomend AAA membership.
  7. How heavy is the trailer. Anything on the roof will kill the gas mileage, where a trailer at highway speeds is essentially tailgating. So if it is smooth, it fits in the cars slip stream. The only thing about trailer towing is to use the heavy duty maintanence scheduale (which i think we should use all the time anyway). If you have an automatic, I would recomend a tranny cooler. The automatic takes the biggest beating on towing, its cheap insurance. nipper
  8. well if you ask nicely ..... hehehehe prvt me your snail mail addy. nipper
  9. hrmmmmmmmmmm that gives me ideas. I knew the front would fit, wasnt too sure about the back. nipper
  10. Here in NY they are chick cars. I think they only sold one in the entire state, as thats all i ever see. nipper
  11. If its 4wd, just put it in 4wd with the one front axle out of it, it will move on its own. nipper
  12. front to rear same side. If you have a full sized spare add that to the mix of one side. i usually do it once in the fall and once in the spring, but nmow that im driving less then 10,000 miles a year i just do it in the fall. nipper
  13. You didnt forget the retaining sping pin for the axle? You really arent supposed to reuse those, and they are directional in how they get installed. I would look at that too. nipper
  14. But can he get a cow in it ... not that i would have any experience with that.... nipper
  15. If this was my engine .... I would take off the heads, see whats going on (better now then its in the car). I would also reseal the engine, replace the water pump at this time and replace the timing belt. Check the timing and make sure its on the money. For this low a mileage engine (but long on time) , its due for all that stuff anyway. nipper
