  1. Yes it happens as long as the car is moving. Thw front and rear axles move at different speeds, especially on curves. the center differential (hence the word) allows for this and to still deliver power. Subars have a limited slip clutch pack inside them. This LSD is cooked, which is why there is jerking. There is no differential action between axles.
  2. My bad did not realize it was a manual. Nope flush wont help. TB in a manual when it happens there is no way around replacing the center diff.
  3. I'm confused, it isnt you, its me allergies and over tired. Are you tying to convert a coil-over-plug engine to dual coils? where 1-2 and 3-4 have coils, and why?
  4. OMFG, twice now the car has scared the biomass out of me. Once on the Verrazano Bridge when a sudden thunder storm blew in, I thought I was going to get blown off the bridge, literally. The other night on the PA Turnpike, a very terrified racoon between lanes, and me swerving to avoid him. Front end tracked fine. The rear wagged in a rather terrifying way, I just powered through it and let the AWD sort it out, but this is not acceptable by any part of the imagination. Tomorrow 4 wheel alignment to start, then i really need to start researching this.
  5. Pics would helpSitting it will need work as rubber, especially from that era, does not like to sit. Being in Alaska there wont be much or a market for it there. I am tempted to say 600, as that is far more then a junkyard would get, but I havent seen it. 600 is usually a good subaru project car price place to start
  6. The car would sell better with a rebuilt axle as opposed to needing an axle. People are used to having to do things like brakes and tires and oil changes (and even struts) when they buy a higher mileage used car, but axles can turn them off. it can also give them some leverage to bargin you down as in "gee what else hasnt he fixed ..."
  7. If i liked licorice ... but damn i need to find something to go in that
  8. 160K it may also be a driveshaft, but 600 bucks of that repair is a new driveshaft, where you can use a good used one or a rebuilt shft for much less, I would go used. The clutch pacK is usually around 900 bucks.
  9. Most factory gauges are buffered in the center. When electric cooling fans first came out, the old style temp gauges were too sensetive. Customers would complain about the wide swings of the temp gauge when the electric fans came on and off thinking something was wrong (wide in comparision to the relativly constant readings of a mechanical fan). And yes i have a scan gauge, that i need to find and see if it still works. I forget if it was in Blu when he drowned from Sandy or in my house.
  10. Its not installed yet so I am looking for paint that matches. I am not against getting some custom made
  11. Yup almost like a diff, but for diagnostic purposes, would have a different set of noises then a regular diff. Heheh sometimes you just got to open the package and appreciate whats inside
  12. Oh no my dear friend (oh wait thats what politician say when they hate someones guts).... This mounts on the dash, center, over the cubby.i loooked at a pillars but almost impossible to find for Legacies at a sane price and wasnt sure how they would play with the side airbags. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Subaru-Legacy-BL5-BP5-2005-2009-Four-Gauge-Pod-/251306739763#vi-content
  13. Sorry my bad, 4eat , which oddly already has a shift light on the dash.
  14. I have a hard to find 4 gauge cluster for my 2005 Outback. Now i always have bat, oil pressure, tranny emp gauges. So I have a hole to fill. I am leaning towards a vac gauge for hole #4. I thought about an oil temp gauge, and would be a pita to install, and really have never sen oil temp being an issue unless the car overheated. I see no need for an A/F ratio gauge in a non-turbo car. I would love an inclometer but havent found one that would fit a 52mm hole. So what would you put in there?
  15. http://www.xcceleration.com/trans/4EAT_Phase_II_Automatic_Transmission.pdf Ok it really isn't a differential in the traditional sense. It is a planetary gear set and a clutch pack of normal size (not a small one).
