overheating 98 forester
nipper replied to mwills's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXOK a few questions, has the raditor cap been replaced. has the cooling system been checked for trapped air. Next is not to do a pressure leakdown test, but to check for exhaust gasses. ALso remove and inspect the raditor to make sure all the cooling fins are in place, it is a little early to need a raditor but you never know. Check the raditor for flow too. nipper

Outback or Forester?
nipper replied to minip's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXOutbacks seem to have less issues then foresters, Foresters seem to have rear wheel bearing issues, and spedo issues. nipper

Heater leaves me out in the cold. Weird.
nipper replied to subiefan's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe gears get brittle with time, but i would replace the cable too. It can be that the cable was binding (im assuming there is one) and that caused the gear to break. nipper

Subaru Slow?
nipper replied to BIGBLUE1212's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Engine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motor_car http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motor_vehicle Also back in the day the electric motor was far more popular then the engine. The car as a whole is a motor vehical, the engine by itself is till an engine. It's just an engineering quibble, but a motor is electric, an engine is mechanical. so ttthhhppprrrrttttttt nipper

Head gasket ID
nipper replied to WoodsWagon's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXExhaust gasses in the coolant is the headgasket, the question is what caused it to go. If it is an updated gasket, had you had any cooling system work done? nipper

Oil pressure gauge?
nipper replied to ShakotanBoogie's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI have one and i dont like it. The oil and oil temp sending units are oe, and the pressure sender (which is huge), from the JDM wire length tells me it mounts on an oil galley some place on top of the engine. The temp sensor looks like it mounts an something adapter like. I bought one off ebay, and oddly the fitting for the oil filter does not match OE. It has me very annoyed. Thats why I would rather use galley plugs

Oil pressure gauge?
nipper replied to ShakotanBoogie's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXthe stock sender is just a switch. I actually have a JDM factory oil pressure gauge, but cant fin out where to screw it in. Can somone show me the oil galley plugs and thier location? Last time i put in a gague on a car, i just teed off the oil press switch port and put them on either side of the T. If space is tight you can bend some SS line and locate them someplace else on the engine. nipper

auto trans additives??
nipper replied to michaelbteam's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXi think youve been taken. Time for small claims, or at least start complaining. The car should not spin tires at all when the FWD fuse is not in. If you are spinning the front tires in AWD the AWD is not functioning. Its rare the TCU needs to be replaced. I think you got taken. nipper

auto trans additives??
nipper replied to michaelbteam's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWhen you put the FWD fuse in, it disables the rear wheels (the clutch pack). So the front wheels spinning is normal (meaning GET OFF THE GAS). The tires will spin if they loose traction for some reason. the FWD light should be on. I dont really understand what your saying... try explaining it again. Also you dont mention if the thump went away, im betting you have torque bind since its obvious the Duty C solenoid (which is energized when you put the fuse in ) is working properly. Do your tires match, are they all inflated properly? Have you driven on a flat or spare recently? SOUnds to me the FWD fuse is behaving normally. nipper

auto trans additives??
nipper replied to michaelbteam's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXOk lets back up a bit ... beepbeepbeep Put the fuse in the FWD holder under the hood for a week and tell us what happens. nipper

auto trans additives??
nipper replied to michaelbteam's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXBy getting under the car and inspecting it. What you have is torque bind, the cracking noise you hear is the drivetrain unwinding. Dont know why its coming from the dash.
