95 2.2, 260k miles. New oil pump?
nipper replied to ShakotanBoogie's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI would replace the oil pump. Since the pump is the heart of the engine, without that the rest of the engine would be crap. Now if you have a feeler gauge you can probably inspect the oil pump and check the clearances to make sure its still in spec. Another possability is an oil pump from a lower mileage engine. nipper

2003 Head Gasket Failure
nipper replied to adamthegreek's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXthis is a 3 year 36K warrenty? You need to get the "antifreeze conditioner" and put it in the coolant (its just stop leak). If this still fails, then there is a 100K warrenty kicking arounf on HG, but you may have to fight for it, but it only works if you put the conditioner in. Now i dont know what happens if the dealer discovers the leak first then adds the conditioner. nipper

98 OBW, rapping engine
nipper replied to WoodsWagon's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX*snicker* actually if you have removed the engine and everything else, convient is an odd term to use. It's ony a matter of popping off the trim around the shifter to get ta the release, and at most a few screws. nipper

EA-sized blower
well you can do that on any car on a dyno , again there is that extension cord thing, and doesnt prove driveability or durability. nipper

Low Fuel Light???
nipper replied to jonfit04's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe gauges are notorisly inaccurate, If you feel brave, fill a gallon gas can and run the car all the way down. someplace around 14 gallons the light will come on. Also make sure your tank doesnt have any dents in it. nipper

EA-sized blower
500 CFM really isnt worth the effort in this configuration. Its the right size, but it needs to be exhaust driven.. Especially when you consider you have to power the thing with a large electrical current. Also the cost of the extension cord is going to be a bit much. nipper

nipper replied to kimokalihi's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXChains on the front for two reasons, the cars are biased towards the front, and there is more clearance in the front wheel wells. The majority of people run all season tires here on subarus with no problems. Actually at this point in time in the universe, thats sort of like asking if radials are better then bias ply on the car nipper

taller tires and ur speedo
nipper replied to funkyfish77's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX\\ i second that. Even if you do the math you'll find out you had to have a HUGE tire size change, to the point where you need a lift kit. nipper

Drive shaft interchange
nipper replied to john in KY's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXits better that a shop do it. i mad my 1987 GL done for 150.00, they rpelaced the joints with ones from a ford ranger and rebalanced the shaft. The ypokes have to be changed sometimes. Actually this is common repair so any driveshaft shop wil know about it. nipper

Timing Belt
nipper replied to murphsubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXUsually what happens is not that they break, is that they jump a tooth. I would wait till 105,000 miles, unless you have some need to do it now. If you push it beyond 105,000, way beyond then it may break, the tensioner can fail, etc. Ive always had the luck of a timing belt going 2000 miles past the change date. nipper
