When was the last time you had your o2 semsor replaced. That would explain the drop in fuel mileage. No power when cold, if this was a carb i would say its a choke issue. So what acts like a choke when cold? Well the car needs to know its own temp. Another thing to look at is the tps sensor. See if the sensor has any response when the car is stone cold. you will have to take resistance readings off them before you start the car to see if they are dead or un responsive when cold. Check all your wires and make sure the belt didnt break anything when it snapped. How long does it take to be responsive? nipper

Depends upon the mileage and how often murphies law kicks you in the but. You are only two pins away from replacing the drive shafts. Inspect the boots carefully. Check for play and the motion of the joints. Jow long are you planning on keeping the car. If the boots have dry rot i would replace them. nipper

Excpet that hydraulic fluid isnt used as a cushion in the bearings like engine oil is. Yes the tranny fluid sees much higher temperitures when the clutches engage, but those are spot temps for a few milliseconds. ATF fluid soes not have to cushion any high impact parts like connecting rod bearings or camshaft journals. ATF fluid can not handle that kind of constant hammering, unless there are special circumstances (like fairbanks in winter). nipper

i was stoped at a red light. Kid behind me did not see me or the redlight. i saw him coming hit the gas, didnt get very far but it probably saved me from being in a wheel chair. Car tok the hit in the left rear, i was hit by a stratous at 50mph. i'll post pics when i get home (thought i did). Car was twisted in the impact and the AWD started making a mysterious clunking noise. At first glance the car didnt look to bad from the front.... nipper -

i wasn't going to mention new generations.. i had a 1998 legacy that got slamed by a dodge (still out of work on that one) and now a 1997 OBW. The 1998 took the hit, ran for three more weeks, but then the twist in the body was pissing off the drivetrain. nipper -

My 1981 GL was killed by rust and a start issue. Never checked out the start issue as once i got under the car i saw no framerails left. My 1997 was rust at the same place on the frame rail. It was eating front axles because the frame was rotted. I drove it as a rear wheel drive for 3 weeks til i found a replacement. nipper -
Its comon practice, but you dont drive the car like this, and you change the oil immediatly. ATF acts as a flush to get the gunk out. Its a very mild flush as compared to the stuff you by in an autoprts store that can kill your engine. Seafoam will do the same thing. nipper

Temp gauge accuracy, momentary pegs??
nipper replied to GoldDiggerRoo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I had the same problem, it was a combination of a bad ground and a dying altenator. nipper -
There is one more consideration, the strength of the body. Not all cars can handle a signifcant increase in torque witout the body twisting. This is well known back when ford pintos mustangII vegas and early sunfires were fitted with v-8s. Body twist can range from a slight anoyance, to cracking front and or rear windows, to permanitly twisting the body. Over time this will crack the chassis. The drivtrain components can maybe take an increase in power, but you have to pay the piper someplace, Componenets will have a shorter life. Balljoints and springs desighned for a 250 lb engine wil wear out alot faster waith a 300 lb engine. Then you need to put on bigger brakes.... nipper

CARB CLEANER BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Use a cleaner that is meant for sensors. Carb cleaner is way too harsh. nipper -

Beter question, why are you replacing the injectors. They dont go bad untill over 200,000 miles. What symptons are you having nipper -
This has been posted here more then a few times. Tribecca is still slow and looks like something only a mover could love. It needs more power, then everyone would overlook its looks. Unfortunitly this video will not impress the soccer moms, its sort of dry. It reminds me of the training videos i used to make for the military, or worse yet, those films in grade in grade school. I dont think its considered an SUV, as an outback can run circles around most suvs. nipper

4wd problem
nipper replied to oharaune's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
hrmmm the snap is not a good thing. DO your tires match and are they worn the same. You dont use the FWD fuse unless there is aproblem with the AWD (like its binding) or the car has a flat or is towed. Are you the original owner How many Kilometers are on this car Did you have any torque bind nipper -
Found this Eurpoean ratings tend to be over stated, also its illegal to tow more then the car weighs. Also in europe you are limited to 50mph-60mph when towing (and they are very strict). ALso to tow you need a license to tow, so therefor eurpoeans have more training on this, allowing for higher rates. Unlike here you can't just throw a trailer on a vehical and go. http://europe.airstream.com/airstreamer/faq.html 15. My car has a tow rating of 3000kg. Can I tow this much? The "tow rating" is a recommendation set by the vehicle manufacturer, which refers to the ability of the vehicle's power, cooling and transmission systems to handle load - typically what it can pull up a 1 in 12 gradient at a standing start. This is not necessarily what it is suited in reality to tow under a wide variety of conditions, not least speed. Real life towing conditions impose greater demands on the tow vehicle than this theoretical test. Hence, whilst some EU vehicles have tow ratings up to 3500KG, this does not mean caravans of this weight can be safely towed, thus tow ratings can be misleading. A caravan is a high sided object. When towed behind a car, it behaves aerodynamically in a different way from say a flat bed trailer carrying cargo. Hence recommendations for caravan towed weights are usually far more modest. http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/towing.shtml SO basically the numbers mean nothing, and probably work out the same to the US recomended weights. Seems that even the trailer design standards are self limiting also. nipper

Its never safe to make assumptions like this. US cars have different spring rates then european cars, and you wouldnt see that from comparing specs. Austrailia also has higher towing rates, but the subarus there have self leveling suspension, which makes me think that it is depdnet on the spring rates more then anything else nipper

No the reason is that subaru does not have deisel engine. Remeber they are a small car company and dont have the deep pockets for R and R of a new drivetrain. Just now they are getting into it because of their partnerhip with toyota. ALso Deisels are coming back since Refineries are now forced to make low sulfur diesel fuel. nipper

New SVX?
nipper replied to ecky's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
Whenever you see windows like that they are structural. Remeber the SVX was a experiment in saftey aslo. This wondow made for a much more stronger door in an accident, and no passenger ejection. nipper -
No there is not. There is just regulations on when a trailer needs brakes, and on which trailer hitch to use. Part of it may have to do with crash standards. US spec cars may have differnt dynamics in the rear, where the trailer hitch would go, not allowing for the bigger trailers. ALso gear ratios have a big part in it, along with tire ratings engine output etc etc etc nipper
