  1. I agree, your in limp mode. This happens because of a major emissions fault, or a vehical speed sensor is dead. Does your CEL work when you first start the car? nipper
  2. You did the worst thing you can do with any auto tranny, you flat towed it. When you flat tow an auto car with the engine off, your not pumping fluid in the tranny. Tranny fluid lubricates as well as cools. You ruined the clutch pack, the clutches, and most likely some mechanical parts. You need a replacement tranny. nipper
  3. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showgallery.php?cat=926 a few new pics nipper
  4. It hasnt done it again. I've had it buried and no problem. Made the new AWD work its rump roast off in the backroads of Southdakota. They call the road scenic, i call it a blast. Loose gravel and dirt. i pulled the abs fuse to have more fun. And cookie, Blu says tthhrppppttttt. Blu is pulling up mountain passes like no tomorrow. Ive done this drive in a sohc 2.2L, and man ill take the DOHC 2.5L anyday.. hehehe my car is dirty
  5. thats not bad as a baseline. You have a green brick. My outback got 19 when i first got it, now its up to 21 as ive adjusted my habits nipper
  6. there are those nasty dimples in the sidewalls i spent all day getting the car dirty, then God had the nerve to rain on me and clean the car.. That and the cattle truck in front of me hello from Murdo SD nipper
  7. i guess 100 mph is high speed This doesnt occure all the time, so im leaning towards tires. My tires are 1 year old, but have broken belts. i think when they get in sort of synch, and you brake from 60mph or higher (lots higher) there is a bad shimmy in the car and brake pedal. It doesnt do it all the time,so its not rotors. Tires were balanced and rotated before the trip. Car was inspected a month before the trip. AT home i never get the car higher then 70, so i dont notice it. Here 80 is the norm, and triple's are not uncommon. I am impressed how good the 4 wheel discs are on the 97 OBW, very powerful brakes when you got to stomp on them at high speed. I am not against replacing the tires, but will do it in a state without sales tax, or low sales tax. BTW ethanol makes car go very very fast quickly .Seems to have more power going up hills. Discovered going up hills i get better gas milage if i slowly squeeze the gas pedal instead of waiting for the cruise control to downshift and floor it. Interesting at 80 stomp on the gas and still get a downshift. I am very happy with the car And it looks good all dirty nipper
  8. Just had a 1000 mile day. ive come to the conclusion that 70 mph speed limits they had to write something on the sign, and they really dont care. i'm in Neb/IA right now. Few things highest speed 110 (it was a big truck on my tail...yes thats it ) avg cruising speed 80 best mpg (flat land) 32 at 75 mph worst 22 cheapest gas, Iowa, Ethanol 1.99 89 octane. i'm starting a new thread as i have a high speed/hard braking issue
  9. it will cause the hard shifting. It will trip the fault light. It may even be upsetting the solenoid. nipper
  10. no lite means that the solenoid is responding, but the clutchs are slipping. When you replace the clutch pack replace the solenoid. bald tire bad..... nipper
  11. are you sure? The solenoids are in the tranny fairly deep and you should not be able to hear them. Are you hearing the buzzy from inside the car, or when you have a stetha scope on the tranny, or when your head is under the car next to the tranny
  12. Well look at it this way, it adds only the cost of a water pump to the bill, as oposed to later on replacing the waterpump and the labor to get to it. Its just cheap insurance. nipper
  13. Numbers to be that low, the iming is off. People have come in here to say the timing is perfect, but when double or triple checking they have found out its off. Timing being off is the only thing that can give you number across the board that low. The number should be 150psi or higher. If you still insist the timing is ok, then you have a very tired engine. You need to do a wet test, as a dry test doesnt really tell us anything except you have low numbers. If the numbers dont come up on a dry test, then its a valve train issue, meaning timing. Bent valves would give you zeros. Burned valves zero. Go back and check the timing belt again nipper
  14. buzzing - heat sheild hard shifting - burned out dropping reisitor. That resistor is part of the car not part of the tranny. Will give you hard shifting nipper
  15. If it is just the air pssing through the throttle there isnt much you can do about it. nipper
  16. mine is tire/wind related, worse on cement, dramatically reduced on blacktop, nothing the 80 watt stero cant mask nipper
  17. sounds like you have a crack someplace. The oil level increasing is not a good thing, and unusual for subaru. nipper
  18. I just drove 12 hrs average speed 60 mph, and guess what, my car whistles too. Its not the roof rack, but its more tire and road surface related with cement worse then asphalt. nipper
  19. bad master cylinder internally leaking as they dont leak externally.. i usually replace both at the same time. i cant find anything bad about this kit yet, thats a good thing. Replac e the master. nipper.
  20. http://www.procarcare.com/includes/content/resourcecenter/encyclopedia/ch20/20TSclutch.HTML Let me ask a silly question, are you sure the master cylinder is good? nipper
  21. 30K thats fast, That is normally what you are seeing for a clutch failure. Here are a few questions: What brand of clutch HOw many miles on the car now DO you have the proper slave cylinder It may be poossible (this happens) that the throw out bearing is no longer firmly in the clutch fork. The clip breaks or falls out. SInce you have low clutch mileage and there was no operator issues, thats all i can think of. Why did you replace the slave cylinder. it may be possible that the slave sylinder was never fully releasing the clutch (long shot) nipper
  22. When the car is vomiting antifreeze its got a HG problem. Otherwise it can be a gauge (which is really rare on a sooby), bad alt or sending unit. The thing is not to take a chance and check. nipper
  23. yes check all your body drains. Make sure the drains for the fresh air intake is clear. Make sure the fenders are clear of debree at the door jambs. Open up the door drains too while your at it. nipper
