  1. i agree claen all your main connections and terminals. YOu may want to have the battery load tested after you cklean all the terminals just to make sure. nipper
  2. whats your email, i can scan the page from the owners manual and send it to you nipper
  3. my 97 obw with 182,00 miles does it only at full throttle (stomp on the gas). if i squeeze the gas pedal it doesnt do it. A fluid flush helped it, but it still does it to a degree. nipper
  4. Look on ebay you can get the complete owners manual kit (for lack of a beeter term). The wheel locks arent necassary. Take a rubbing of the wheel lock pattern and go to an autoparts store, im sure its a standard off the shelf lock. If not you need to buy 4 sockets that come close to the max diameter of the wheel lock pattern and hammer them into the lock, then use a breaker bar to remeove them. If it sounds too scary to do (ive never done it .. but have seen it done) a tire store can do it. Worse thin that happens is they break a stud. it really MUST be done b4 you get a flat nipper
  5. so any more word on this? curious minds want to know and please be safe nipper
  6. Actually its the water .. its the way you sued to de-carbonize the engine. You would point the tailpipe downwind, away from neighbors, race the engine, and use a spray bottle to get water in the intake. The smoke would be thick and hing in the air, but would get rid of the carbon. nipper
  7. no no and no it is a peizo electric signal. an AC pattern generated by a quartz crystal, that is very very low voltage. The knock sensor is your freind .. why do you want to futz with it? nipper
  8. one more .. make sure the drain hose for the heater/ac box is not cloged. if it is in the rain the carpet will get wet. nipper
  9. i dont mean to sound like a broken record . Can you try starting the car in neutral (amuse me). YOU may have to go to a tranny shop and let them put pressuire gauges on the tranny and see exaclty whats happening.. Tires need ot have a circumfrence within 1/4" per subaru. im really at a loss for this unless you have a bearing going bad inside the tranny. Have you checked your front wheel alingmnet to make sure nothing is bent. the only other thing that will cause this feeling on the front is if you have lost your "toe in on turns". The inside wheel should turn in father then the outside tire. If this doesnt happpen you will get tire scrub ...which will feel like torque bind. Have you had any front end work done? nipper
  10. First thing first, after we slaughter the chicken .... Was the transmission fluid burnt? What exaclty were the symptons nipper
  11. hehe i do the saem thing, mine is a real pretty blue. The sealant is stopleak. GM uses it in their hp v-8's too. It does its job well for minor leaks, but when a leak gets big enough, its time to fix it the right way. Only advice i have is to drive properly, ie, scan your dashboard regularly to make sure the temp gauge is where it should be, and youll be fine. nipper
  12. If inserting the fuse has done nothing, i would Bet the duty c solenoid is shot. There is a long thread http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=48865 Buried in there towards the end it telss you how to check that circuit and resistance of the solenoid. My gut feeling is the solenoid died and needs to be replaced. nipper
  13. Sorry had a few bad days .. cant wait for surgery for my back. i would have that replaced, as there shouldnt be alot of movement in that bushing, and what you describe is literally what Haynes describes as the bushing/bearing assy failure. i dont know if this is a dealer item only (your not that attached to your first born male child anyway ). i know when my universal joint went bad i took it to a driveshaft shop and they fixed it far cheaper then the subaru part. You may give one a call and see if they have a fix for it, along with subaru. nipper
  14. overheating advice- DONT LET IT OVERHEAT. simple. you can do far far far more damage by overheating the engine repeatedly then a blown headgasket could ever do. When you get the headgasket done, have an oilchange too. The last connnecting rod bearing on the passenger side of the car REALLY does not like repeated overheating. Better safe then sorry. nipper
  15. this is the first ive heard of it. maybe your the same way with trannies as i am with timex watches... i put one on my wrist it dies of fear nipper
  16. torque binding is at the rear, never heard it at the front, let alone on one side. People with manuals do get it, just with a manual there are no options as far as how to fix it. The unit is sealed that applies the RWD. Flushing fluid only works with auto trannies. If it is doing as you say, i would wonder if the front differntial is having issues. And once again:banghead: year and mileage would help. nipper
  17. heheheh.. If your running an open exhaust system, the gas mialge will drop as ewell as performance. You will gin upper end performance, but you need that back pressure to help make bottom end power. a minor leak you wont notice, unless its before a cat then there is that entire death thing mentioned eralier. The gas leak will afect gas mileage , especially when the fire trucks show up. is the leak from the front of the car or the back of the car. nipper
  18. all youngsters.. ,my 97OBW has 182K on orginla drivetrain with no issue. Beofre you go get the cooling system serviced, use subaru antifreeze, and deminerilazed water. i think it may have something to do with lack of maintance and using tapwater in the cooling system, but then again im on heavy pain meds. The cooling system and the auto tranny are the tow of three ignored areas for fluid changes, the others being the differntials, but they sem to survive it. nipper
  19. a wheel bearing can make some more drag. I think its winter, winter fuel, and a tuneup. out of curiosity, whats the milage on this puppy. Also check your tire pressures. nipper
  20. i agree. the pump is bad, they dont last forever. Also while your there replace your timing belts (unless they been done recently) nipper
  21. possibly a worn throwout bearing in the clutch. Geta freind to sit in the car with you. With the engine warmed up press the clutch in adn release it in neutral. See if your freind hears any changes in the noise. Read this http://www.carcarecouncil.org/Manual_Transmission/throw-out_bearing.shtml its sounds like it may be time for a clutch nipper
  22. sounds like its the vehical speed sensor for the spedo. has your mechanic pulled the codes, i mean, that shold give him some sort of idea where to look. If he hasnt done that already time to find a new mechanic. What do you mean by modified exhaust system nipper
  23. its a loose or bad belt. Belts can go at anytime as they do take a beating, but it is a little early. Could be just an adjustment nipper
  24. . The install for the remote starter is fairly easy if your handy, as i did it in a 98 legacy nipper
  25. this is the 96 legacy? how many miles on it ... sounds like the rubber mount for the bearing is tired, or the bearing is tired or both. nipper
