  1. yeah I think I know what your talking about. I know the area you are talking about. I have dealt with "B and A friction" at my current job all the time. probably a different place than your talking about. my regular source is a parts store I used to work for. they get good import parts from a company called IMC out of So. cal. really good prices and quality too.
  2. if you want I can get you a quote on some good clutches localy. sachs, dakin, and some others. let me know
  3. well a compression test would be a really good idea before you tear into it. mabey pressure test the cooling syst. too if you think its got a head gasket problem. you can check the tensioners out but if its got high miles I would just change them. I think the idler bearing is replacable. the compression test will tell you general eng. condition. the lower end may be just fine if so leave it alone. if you end up doing the head gaskets you will be able to inspect the cylinders a bit better.
  4. sweet I hope it keeps comin down tonight. what elevation are you at? guessing 6000ish? man with the weather so warm lately I will take any snow. I like me some fresh stuff.
  5. boarding trip tomarow. I know the notice is short but the snow is falling (for the last time this winter?) i have tickits to use up. goin to sugar bowl tomarow. dont know about sat. if you other nor cal folks want to meet up let me know I can sell off one of our extra ticket cheap.
  6. my Rx leaks a bit there too. I am waiting for warmer weather to fix it. should come of easyer if its hot. as for the sealant. I am going to use ultra black or mabey that urathane window goop. strip caulk is nasty to work with.
  7. I dont think you are supposed to put it on the O rings and mickey seal. I use just a little any way. dont spooge it all over. be sparing. oh and it really sticks to your fingers use gloves.
  8. if you have it torn apart oil pump seals cam seals rear main t belts waterpump tensioners/idlers valve covers oil pan gasket you asked :-p
  9. there have been some custom ground cams droping into a few cars here too. have not heard too much about the results. most say the recieved more low end pull. due to recent drama we are missing a few members. temporary? have some meets coming up. get to see peoples rides in person. cant wait to se subaru styles ride. cheers from our side of the pond.
  10. dont ask miles he is a bit sensitive about that. subaru brat - I rembered your job from when we had that topic in the OT fourm. just giving you a hard time. mabey a good reason to buy your own plasma cutter:brow: I want one in my shop someday. I hear you about the days off and getting stuff acomplished. but then again if I we not sitting here I might be doing something that needs to be done.
  11. subarus dont have that kinf of issue. they dont run the bolts into water jackets or oil passages like some other cars do. and if you do fide a situation like that. once again the aviation sealant is recomended for use on threads too. no sealant on the HG is true. there is only one sealant that I have heard of for HG use and that is copper coat. but I agree with dry instal. like miles mentioned the ultra grey is good for the case halfs and cam boxes along with some other uses.
  12. good job when does the movie come out?
  13. its ok its not rocket science. that stuff always hapens when I rush somthing. 4 days off? how many on? sounds like a good size weekend. that sounds like 4 BBQ days in a row.
  14. like I said before I had the same problem and determined it was the EGR opening too soon. I also had a small crack in the air intake boot. I replaced the boot and bypased the EGR temporarily.
  15. if you rev it and it charges? I would suspect the reg.
  16. use 1/2" silicone heater hose. works great. I made the rubber hose mistake already. it lasted a couple thousand miles then blew 2 hours from home. had to get real creative there. but thanks to a bus driver and some mormon misionarys that helped out I got it all fixed in no time. then I went and got the silicone hose. as for your stumble try disconecting the egr vac line and pluging it.
  17. did it get dirty while you had it removed? mafs must be clean to work properly. not just the contacts but the element. you can shoot some carb spray thru the sensor to clean it off.
  18. yeah I am curious about options too. let me know what you find. my sources all struck out with that adaptor too.
  19. nice job efi is the only way to fly. I hate carbs. when I first converted my truck. I had the ecm in a grocery bag under the hood. I understand.
  20. that looks like a fun little kritter. I like those tires.
  21. yeah you should have a hot wire. no any easy fix for the fuel cut. what kind of boost controler and where did you get it? I know they are simple little devices. I tried to build one but could not get the spring to work correctly.
  22. well I got my whole system installed today. everything was looking great. then after a while my volvo oil cooler started leaking. I also had assumed that the fittings were 1/2" pipe (they are 3/8) and then when I went to hook up my custom hoses (4250 psi ) I realized my error. well rather than add adaptors that would take up space I decided to rethread to 1/2". so that part is all good now and the cooler seems to work well as it got real hot just after a 15 min. drive. any one have a volvo 240turbo oil cooler? thats all I need now and it will be sweet. thanks again WJM. if I get some time I will post a pic or 2.
  23. did the problem start after your emissions equipment removal? amazingly some of those parts are meant to be on your motor. as for the vac. line question. that may or may not be ok. if you ran a venturi vacume source to a manifold vac. source that would definatly give you the problem you have. vac caps would have been a better choice. I know I am not going with the popular belife that removing emissions equipment is "good". nevermind the fact that winters are getting shorter and shorter each year. the president says that his own advisors are all wrong about that silly global warming issue so its ok. another thread along the same lines as yours. might want to check egr too. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=13961 please ignore my little rant if it offends anyone I know politics are a no no. but it is related to the topic.
