  1. I wanna do a quad-light setup on my coupe... *** Writing down to self, hunt for DL's in the JY this weekend ***
  2. Hmmm... can I actually buy the kit at the dealer? Will this kit help my idle at all? I cleaned out the crusty PCV lines a while back, they should be clean.
  3. So I had a Fram PCV valve in before. Oil was getting into the intake somehow and causing the car to run rather crappy Today I just put in an OEM PCV valve, and the car runs better... but now it idles lower than usual.. why would that be? What causes oil to get into the intake anyways? (It's definately oil, not ATF)
  4. I made it there and back. Car ran fine, but was ALL over the road. And it's eating rear tires for lunch it seems Not to mention the rear end is WAY lower than the front end... Either way, it made it, I had no issue, and GO Subaru!
  5. Thanks Caleb! It's about maybe, say, 1/8 inch of play? Ahhh I have trust in the car... but I still dont want to be on I-40 hitchhiking to Needles
  6. I've gotta drive a 500 mile round trip starting tonight... Funeral I checked everything, looks OK. Except... When I grab the axle shaft by the transmission, I have a bit of play. Roll pin is there, the axle nuts were loose, but I just tightened them to at least 150 foot pounds, and there's still this tiny tiny bit of play. Axles don't click at all, both outer boots blown of course... but yeah, no click on turns or anything. Question is.... should I be worried about this tiny bit of play in the axle??? I'm going to steadily 55-65mph myself out there.... I leave in about 5 hours so please... let me know, I'm kinda scared.
  7. Hey hey hey... I had a '95 Escort... One of the best 90's Ford cars IMO. Pretty reliable as long as you don't overheat it... many many Escort's of that generation are used as county fleet vehicles out here... sold at auctions with 250-300K on them and they still run good... But I don't have an Escort no more, and I got me an '86 GL coupe... :headbang: Regardless of what the critics say, I would'nt trade her for the world, as I've put a lot of blood, sweat, tears and money into her and she should last me another 100K at least. (except maybe the 3AT :-\) Oh yeah, no car payment and high insurance for me!
  8. My axle nuts were loose. Guess I forgot the "second re-torque" I've always had to do on axles for some reason. Thank goodness for the simple fixes, aye? Now to go fix the other problems
  9. for some reason, my 2wd coupe has vibration above 70 mph and just doesnt want to stay on the road sometimes... what can cause this?
  10. The PCV rattles just fine... but I think it's a cheapie Gonna get a dealer PCV asap.
  11. Something's telling me the oil in the vacuum lines was not ATF, but engine oil. So I cleaned out the PCV system... got LOADS of hard black stuff out of the PCV lines. If the PCV is crappy, can that happen? (Oil in the intake)
  12. Thanks for the numbers! Now I can get some belts put on...
  13. Daeron is correct, your test worker guy is an idiot. I'll set that in stone for him, heh. ECS does not mean the car is Carbed, that's the equivalent of a CEL on '85-'86 models.... my old and also my current '86 had/has an ECS light, while my old '88 DL had a Check Engine light. I've seen an '85 with fuel injection as well in my travels; it also had an ECS light. Carbed, no clue, never seen one. '87 is also beyond me; never seen one. When I attempted to smog my car in Cali, the test guy specified that I didnt even HAVE a check engine light whatsoever, and failed me because he did not check my timing correctly :-\
  14. Okay, so I just pulled the vacuum modulator line.... and out came ATF :dead: But I didnt lose any fluid; yet all of my vacuum lines have ATF (I think) inside of them... I JUST replaced the modulator, too! What the... ***EDIT*** The car never smoked, and never seemed to lose fluid since I did the flush. So.... I ran the car with the vacuum hose coming from the modulator off, got all the gunk out of the vacuum line, put it back on, and took her for a spin about half a mile or so. Now when I disconnect the hose, nothing comes out. Maybe it was just old fluid from before that got stuck down there? Does that sound about right? Either way, looks like the modulator is fine, and the car doesnt shake at idle nearly as bad as it did before... Not to mention the noise kinda subsided!
  15. '86 SPFI with a 3AT. Has governor issues, when warmed up it shifts fine, but makes a soft, whining type noise throughout all the gears (really low noise, radio covers it up) This occurs when cold or warm, it makes no difference. I did a drain and fill around 4K ago, and the pan was full of black sludge, but no metal particles. Filter was nasty, but also did not have any metal particles. Fluid level is OK, I'm going to check it again just for S&G here in a second.... BTW: I've noticed a LOT of cars make this same weird noise, Fords, Hondas, etc. It's just that... I don't want mine making noise at all What could it be? Front pump? Governor? Blinker fluid?
  16. But, the question is.... Am I gonna have to JY the idler assembly, or can I purchase a new one somehow?
