  1. Yeah, maybe '84 was the last year... who knows. I do know the EA71 stayed in production and saw most of its last years in 2WD Hatches until '89. Regardless.... dude-man here will definatly want to get rid of that 1600 if he wants some power. -Brian
  2. Did you have a successful run with the guys out there? Can you give me a zipcode of a meeting place? -Brian
  3. Nope, you'd be the 1st. let us know when its done -Brian
  4. HOLY MACARONI!!! Not only does it have single headlights, it also has a metal front bumper!?!?! Things are not the way they should be. Black is now white, up is now down. Left has turned into right! Could this be? Is there a god? WHY!!!!! WHY LORD WHY!!!??!?!?!!! Okay. im done. Thanks GD -Brian
  5. True, of course I could be wrong. I have a 1983 Sales brochure that gives a complete model lineup, and i don't remember seeing any models offered in that year with 2 headlights. I'll recheck, i could be wrong. -Brian
  6. John, what you are doing is great. I want to help. Right now money is very tight, but it wont be like this for long. I would love to get my hands on some parts to. To be able to say "this part was made by Jason" would bring a smile to my face. so let me know whats available and prices. -Brian
  7. Check the tag, it could have been sold as a '84 but manufactured in '83. And yeah, Peaco has EVERYTHING except the modified heads. Check out Sub4 engineering for the sweet heads. -Brian
  8. Ive seen the pix. Its your parts car right? Wierd, i coulda swore the single square lights were discontinued in '83. Does the door tag say its a '84? -Brian
  9. A friend of Shawn's and Mick's. Aparently a board member who doesnt post much due to his lack of English. -Brian
  10. After 1985, the EA81 series was kept with 4 headlights. As a matter of fact, after 1983 I dont believe they made any subaru's with the 2 headlight setup, except for the Hatchback STD that has 2 single round headlights all the way up to '89 at the end of its production. Ej22T would be alot of work. it would be cheaper than pulling 160hp out of a EA81. Ive never heard of a EA81 gaining 200hp, but its not unheard of. Im sure a turbocharged, intercooled, prepped and ballanced EA81 could reach 200hp, but not reliably. -Brian
  11. Damn. A real run with Mike W, and one of the last runs for Zap for a while.... sure wish i had more vacation so i can drive up there and play too! have fun guys, bring back tons of pix. -Brian
  12. The 1st step is to STOP ASSOCIATING SUBARU's WITH HONDAS! hehehe, there is almost nothing in simularity between the 2. The only thing they share, is they have pistons. Everything else is completly different. Look into aircraft modifications. GD, that car, being a 2WD, can most definatly have a EA71 in it. Even 4 headlights doesnt mean its a GL. 2WD DL's still have quad headlights. The EA81 is a popular engine for the small aircraft guys. You can get modified heads, intakes, exhaust manifolds, rockers, pushrods, cams etc. through them. they arent cheap tho. A fuel injection system from the aircraft guys runs alittle over $3,000. Good luck turbocharging that engine. There is a turbo version of the EA81 that has MPFI instead of the carbbed version. good luck finding one tho. -Brian
  13. Yup, looks like a 2WD '87 1600cc DL Hatch to me. Might be badged as a GL, but i would look closer into it, most definatly looks like a DL from here. Good luck on any parts. There are larger engines, but they don't fit without ALOT of shoe horning. The EA82 and the EJ Series (2.0, 2.2, 2.5) are all overhead cam, making them alot wider than the EA71 and the EA81. If you want to make it fast, get a EA81. Put your EA71 pistons in it, have the heads shaved, get a weber carb and a hot cam, and you should make aprox 100 to 110hp easy. As far as body kits, light kits or other street mod's, good luck. Better find someone that can fabricate headlights. -Brian
  14. Do you have a picture of your Hatch? There were 2 types of hatchback's offered in 1987. The EA82 and the EA81 versions, both are completly different. Since you said 3 door, i assume its a EA82, but i could be wrong. -Brian
  15. I need those drives. I always have parts, PM me with a list of what you need for your hatch, 1/2 price weekend is this weekend and i'll be at the yard sunday with a wheelbarrel. -Brian
  16. Im in sacramento. Not really So.Cal, where are you located? -Brian
  17. 145K, thats just barely broken in. No need to worry about the valve timing on any EA81, even with 300,000 miles, your valves should be timed the same as factory spec's. EA82's on the other hand have OHC's with 2 timing belts. -Brian
  18. Yeah, i was thinking it was the Hill Holder, but Miles caught that. I forgot you had an auto. -Brian
  19. Is your car parked on a slope? and is the rump roast end downhill? -Brian
  20. Go BYB. Do you have the materials and time, plus skills to build a lift? The BYB is tested true, and i have never heard of one failing. Not to say yours will, but the $300 gets you the lift, and assures you that you're driving home from that off-road trip. -Brian
  21. Check for any vacuum leaks at all. Are you familiar with metric sockets? if you have a set, you can do anything to that car. An easy way to check for leaks is to let your car warm up and starts running like crap. Then get a can of carb cleaner and spray around the engine near hoses and the manifold. If you spray near a hose, and your idle picks up or smooths out, there is most likely a leak there somewhere. Might not be a bad idea to check all the gaskets on the carb and intake manifold to make sure coolant isnt getting in your intake. That will make any subaru run like crap. -Brian
