If you have December 2003's issue, TURN TO PAGE 94!! In the top of the page you see the front half of a Gen2 Brat, you cant see the rear cause this thing is HAULING rump roast and the whole rear end is covered by a cloud of dust. The Front end shows what looks like a blower or S/C comming out of the hood, and it has 2 straight pipes as well. Looks like a total of 6-8" of lift, and it has some chrome rims with sand tires on it as well. Looks like a pretty machine, all custom work. I seriously doubt it has the EA81 in it, and IFS still. -Brian

That SR5 is my neigbors, we share a driveway (duplex). Vicky... LOL! You must have been sleeping. Ive had the brat for like 6 months now There is no hatch in the background. The grey sube is a 1989 GL10 Turbo Touring Wagon, belongs to my roomate and it has a blown head gasket. Fox, its a 1984 GL Wagon, you were close, but I dont remember you having one that looked like it. Thanks guys for the compliments...the brat needs a wash, should have clean pix tonight. -Brian

lol... im not even using the Cover you gave me before. Was thinking of auctioning it on eBay and letting the proceeds going to the USMB fund. I dont need caps either, but if you find some.... by all means grab them for me. And also the lugs. I know more will find they're way into the yard. I also want to make a Carson City run real soon. So i'll keep you posted. Looks like we have a growing Nevada group. -Brian

1978 Turbo 1.8 Brat
TheSubaruJunkie replied to 78TurboBrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Welcome to the board 78Turbo.... you have created a monster. I had a wet dream about something like this, but it was a '74 Wagon with a EA82T pushing 200+hp. I set you up with an account at the gallery, login there and get some pix for us!!! Expecially pix of the engine bay. -Brian -
They only rub when i turn real tight, or if I hit a bump. The rear does not rub at all, the front does (only while turning). My front end is lowered all the way tho, i will need to raise it a bit. NO! The brat will not be lifted. The brat is the street-rig, my wagon is my off-road rig. Dave, i got 2 out of the 4 caps. The caps are the exact same caps that the 14" pugs have on my wagon. So i will take all 4 caps from the wagon, use 2 on the brat and have a couple for spares. Hardcore. That Brat is unlifted. The rear struts are lowered all the way, so yes.... there is no problem running them on an unlifted Brat. They are alittle unballanced, but i can already feel a MAJOR difference in cornering. There is almost no understear (keyword... ALMOST). As soon as I get them ballanced and get 2 more pug lug nuts, i will be able to REALLY test them out. -Brian

Had to goto the yard today for a few USMB members, and I thought i'd get some new tires for the Brat. They happend to come mounted on a set of 15" Pug Alloys. The tires are 205/60R15 Pirelli P600's. Probably have a few hundred/thousand miles left on them. More pix can be seen here: http://usmb.net/gallery/albuo83 -Brian

My Be Selling My Brat
TheSubaruJunkie replied to edalexandr's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If your going to sell it, list it in the marketplace. if you want to fix it, ask us a general question. And if you aren't yelling at us, then take off your caps lock. -Brian -
Skid plate Qs(EA82 front)
TheSubaruJunkie replied to soobme's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Ive NEVER had a problem, and Ive been bombing the sube through crap since i learned how to drive one. As a matter of fact, ive never even seen a damaged skid plate either. I Heard some people double them up, use 2 stacked on top of eachother for added strength. -Brian -
EA81 Power Steering Conversion
TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
True, and besides Im sure I can find a EA81 Wagon/coupe/sedan that has PS but is missing the engine Dave, there's always money for the ski (actually, snowboarding) season. -Brian -

EA81 Power Steering Conversion
TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The steering rack is different, it has 4 lines runing to and from it, so the engine crossmember is alittle different to account for that. The crossmember also has 2 holes in it that you use to mount a female to female connection for the hoses that route through there. I just dont feel like pulling an entire engine to get the crossmember. -Brian -
Thinking of grabbing the parts I need to do the conversion on my brat. Do I really need the engine crossmember, or can I modify the crossmember thats in the brat now? Another thing, should I grab the hoses from the donar car, or is there a way to get brand new hoses? I would almost preffer that over lines that have been sitting in a junkyard for godknows how long. -Brian

Questions about spray paint
TheSubaruJunkie replied to Subafly's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Depends on how good you want it to look and how long you want the stripes to stay on the car. I would prolly just mask off where you want your line to be, and at least lightly sand it so the paint has something to stick to. If you want to make it look real good, spray some primer on after its sanded down alittle (just enough to get through clear coat) a coat of primer and 2 or 3 coats of krylon will make it look 1/2 way decent. -Brian -
CHP Cut me a break in my Brat.
TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I dont know. I told him if I were in a corvette, i would have lost control at the apex of the turn, when the rear end broke loose. I told him that with the FWD, the car was able to pull itself through the turn, and remain in control. He just stood there with a stupid smile on his face and told me to be careful I apologized and told him it wouldnt happen again. -Brian -

TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah, it was fun. I need to find an open track or something, im either going to loose my license or life in this brat And I want to make it faster too... *sigh* I even found a NEW off-ramp that is downhill, off a bridge at 15mph, PERFECT for a controlled 4whl drift. -Brian -
I've been driving my Wagon around for the past few months, and just now got the Brat out of the garage for some fun. I was driving a friend home from work, and he lives off of the freeway. There so happend to be a 20mph circular off-ramp, and i love taking them at 40 to 50, with all four tires squeeling. Well, tonight was a perfect night for it I aproached the off-ramp at around 50, then slowed to 40 to get it into 3rd. All of my tires are pretty much bald street tires by now, so it didnt take much for them to break loose. About 1/2 way through the turn, i had to put it into 2nd to control the car. I came out of the off-ramp onto a bridge that crosses the freeway, and the rear of the Brat came loose as i merged onto the overpass. But what I didnt see, was the CHP officer on his bike, probably about 50 to 60 feet behind me as I did so. Of course he pulled me over, but he was actually pretty cool about the whole thing. I tried to convince him I had complete control of the car at all times and knew what i was doing, but he kept saying things like "This isn't a Corvette, you cant be driving it like one" blah blah blah.. The only thing he did was walk to the front of the car to make sure the lights were working, walked to the back of the car where he noticed there was no bumper. When he came back and asked me about the bumper, i told him i was having a dent removed from it, and it'd be back on Monday. When he came back, he ended up giving me a citation for not having any lights for my rear plate (cause the bumpers gone), and a warning of "unsafe speed" with no mention of the reckless driving. I have until Jan 6th, 2004 to have the bumper on, and that's about it. I think I shal count myself lucky, and take it alittle slower for now, definatly need to get new tires tho -Brian

'87 RX Project Update (56K Beware)
TheSubaruJunkie replied to Subarutex's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Looking great tex. I have to admit tho, those 18's do look alittle too big. I'd prolly go with 16's to give you more wheel travel. -Brian -

TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Off Road
Its done with my camcorder, then captured with my TV card on my PC. This card sucks, im going to be getting a $300 PCI Capture Card that will do a MUCH better job. I dont mind swapping rear CV's. That rear end was welded, but in one of the video's I break it. -Brian -

If you are in Windows XP, just right click on the file and chose OPEN WITH and then Windows Media Player. You do not need to use the DiVX Player, you just need to install the DiVX Codec. Thanks Eyesore -Brian
