  1. sounds good not sure if i can this sunday though have something i need to get done. i do understand about not doing some offroading alone somethings are ok but others you just wait for, you never know when something might happen. well if we can't hook up to wheel this weekend i might be able to in a couple of weekends but i would only be able to on sundays. i work on saturdays and its hard to get them off especially this time of the year. as far as welding up the rearend, it helps alot but you have to take out one of the axles to drive it on the sreet the extra traction due to the pavement wrecks havoc on drivetrains but for offroading they are awesome. i run a welded rearend in my 86 and an lsd in my 84, have done most of my heavy offroading in my 86 but haven't done much in the 84 other then some unimproved roads in the sotheastern side of oregon during a vacation a summer ago. once i get a clutch in it and the carb fixed i'll be running it this winter instead of my 86 just to see how it does. oh yeah i did have the 84 at WSCC8 in 2006 and it did really well in the mudpit and climbing up surveyor ridge during the offroading tour. i have some videos of that on my myspace page, plus some videos with my 86 up on goat mtn. http://www.myspace.com/chzsmith
  2. what day you planning on going????? i got this saturday off but i have important things going on but i might be able to break away and meet up with you guys. sunday might be best for me, might only be for part of the day. do you carry radios or cbs??? i only have handheld walkie talkies but i might be able to get a cb and i know cells are ify especially on goat. are you going back up goat and what side colton or hillock burn???
  3. nice vids. as soon as i get a free weekend lets go wheelin. haven't done much up lolo yet but the powerline looks inviting though.
  4. i have never smashed my exhaust open or to the point that it has needed to be replaced but i tweeked to up against the driveline where i've had to pry it back witha 3ft prybar. but i do have both sides of my backseat passenger floor boards dented up and lost about a gallon of capacity in my fuel tank do to a dent and the front passenger side floor board has been hammered back down atleast once. anyway Y-pipe and exhaust is still the same as when i lifted it and dent free. Knock on wood back.... and we won't talk about fenders, core support (son hit a tree), hood (son again, same tree), quarter panels, taillight (drives side), rocker panels-bothsides, doors and that space below the rear hatch. Wow, i think the hatch is the only straight piece still on the car........i'll have to fix that. oh wait and the roof.
  5. Yeah, i know. But, back when i bought my sooby i wasn't thinking of lifting it. I was just thinking of getting a newer car and i always liked and heard good things about Subarus and since i like going up into the mountains (I.E. Camping, Hiking, Backpacking, Snowshoeing and Mountain Climbing) at all times of the year. With all the activities and being a single parent of 2 young childeren at the time the room of an EA82 was appealing. But since i have lifted it and wheeling it i do understand the limitations of soobies and the difference between the 2. But until it dies I'm going to abuse it the best that i can. Then i will go to my back up and thats my 84 wagon unless my son steals it away from me , then i just have to get a Brat or step up to a yota or cherokee. Oh and as far as the clutch goes even though it suppose to be a so called Brute Force clutch it doesn't like it when i get hard on it. PS sorry for the brief life history.
  6. Well, i think that if you want to just go and play around either one is going to do just fine. Capable will depend on how hard you want to play and how much modifying you do to it. heres some pics of mine.......... Theres more pictures in my gallery if your interested. BTW........I do like my lifted EA82 but in all fairness i never have had a lifted EA81. i have always liked the looks of the EA81 but when i bought my EA82 12 yrs ago i went with the more room that it had and glad i did since now i also have an EA81( only factory cranked up suspension) and there isn't as much room in it. My EA82 has only been lifted for about 4 years now but it shows the wear and tear of hard playing.
  7. Sweet, you got the pictures to work!!!! nice looking sooby you got, good job.
  8. WOW!!!!! Dude thats harsh. don't give up, i didn't get the picture thing right away. just keep trying
  9. i haven't been out in awhile but by october i should be freeing time enough to go. there are some other people on the board that i've been wanting to hook up with and go to Lolo Pass, Wildcat Mt., up towards Squaw Mt. and Goat Mt. BTW i'm in Gresham, not that far from you. Got a buddy of mine got a stocker last spring hes been wanting to go and another guy thats on the board lives in SE Ptown and another in the milwaukee are all have stockers that been wanting me to show them some places. i'll be in touch first part of October and we'll all try to hook up, only problem is that i can only go on Sundays because i work Saturdays. Chaz
  10. Ok here are my photos, it was hard to only pick 5 for you to choose but here they are.
  11. thats not far from my brothers (111th)which i will be most likely at sunday, i grew up down on 73rd and holgate. saturdays i work. does weekdays work out at all for you? i might be able to swing by there on sunday if i can get done at my brothers early enough.
  12. this sundays up in the air. i kinda need to do something on my brothers truck and i was going to possibly work on my mini but that all depends on how i feel, come sunday. let me think about, its something i really need to get done for my brother, plus my son won't be home until sunday night and i know he would be upset if i went without him. would you be up for it next sunday? maybe i can help get spiffy going during the week before then (if he wants) and he can go too. btw, me and my son went up to adams last to weekend to summit but i didn't like the way the weather was so we went dayhiking saturday and sunday, i took a 3 day weekend to climb adams and was shot down do to weather.
  13. where in ptown do you live? i might be able to help. we can get that thing somewhat trail worthy.
  14. HEY!! give me a call too. 971-645-7523
  15. nice pictures. that looks like a very fun trail. thanks for sharing the pictures.
  16. when i checked ( a year ago) you could still get new factory kyb"s with the adjustable lower spring perchs from subaru, roughly around 150-175 per strut. unfortunately you can't buy them from anywhere else that way, kyb is contracted by subaru to make those struts for them. i got info straight from the tech department at kyb when i ordered some from kyb and came through with the fixed perchs.
  17. bigger tires then stock shouldn't have stopped les schwab from doing an alignment. i have never heard of that. what les schwab was it?????? you come to my store and i'll align it for you, unless you have wornout parts then they would have to be replaced. an alignment won't always stop a car from pulling, other things can cause a pull to. mine pulls i just live with it because i've mod the piss out of it and i'm running 15".
  18. the r200 nissan diff is a much bigger casing, i have considered it before because you can get an ARB air locker for those. the diffs are soobies use are the r160 nissan cases. they are pretty big and i haven't actually got one to see if they would fit. i've only seen them on nissan trucks (they are the front diffs on the 4x4) that have came into my work. if anyone has tried them i would be interested to know how it worked out or not. chaz
  19. Yep, thats the way they look and thats all it takes to. done about 3 of them myself and its always at the worst time to. hey, atleast there not to hard to fix.
  20. here a few pictures of who/what i whell with next time i'm out i will get pics of the one that i don't pics of.
  21. yep, no problem didn't mean to highjack. was thinking the samething. sorry.
  22. i might be able to break away this week end sometime but not for sure, it would probably be a last minute thing. no it won't be june 8th, i can only do sundays as i work on saturdays. i'm busy up till the middle of june. so if everyone wants it would either be fathers day (sunday) or the sunday after. i possibly can do something on the 3rd but i have to wait and see. don't worry we'll go were stockers can go to, but if you can't make it no worries i'll just pull you out.
  23. hey spiffy, give me a couple of weeks ( first part of june)and maybe we can put something together around the portland area. i'll see if scoobyclimbs and pooparu would want to go. i also have a buddy that just got an 83 wagon that would like to go out, hes bone stock, but wants go out and play. maybe some other portland soobs might want to join in to.
