My new redonkulous project idea
I dunno what do you all think? I like the brat , nice and small and light, with 33s I would ungrade the rear axle to something stronger , or you have a complete wheeler, just find another EA81 body and bolt up all your parts and fix the parts that broke in the wreck

SJR Wheeler Build 90 Legacy Wagon 2013
Ok here it goes made a deal on a 90 legacy has the 2.2 with a 5 speed, its a wagon, been sitting a couple years I jump started it and it started right up got to love them FI computerized engines, the guy parked it cause the clutch gave out on him, it has a water leak somewhere the front floors have green stuff growing on them, heres some parts that will go into this 4.37 Toyota 3rd with a locker thanks Kev for setting her up for me couple 33" tires for the rear

Time for a new wheeler, maybe
looks like the yota rearends a go , thinkin whats a good way to mount that thang in there I know 4 link with coils is a good way to go, but this is a High geared grocery getter with little flex up front, would be cool to use the stock rear shocks and maybe the mount, yota leafs would be simple and I have a set, didn't really want them hangen out the back, on my red sedan I went model T style which was simple and lots o flex, I don't want that route this time,

with the stock gearing and suspension of the transaxle and front body clearance a 30" tire is about the max on a EJ, if I go lower rear diff gears I can run a bigger rear tire which will give more ground clearance and a bigger tire footprint , so with a 33 on the rear that's 1-1/2" more clearance, and with a straight axle that's important as it has a nice large pumpkin hangin down, where the Subaru is smaller and tucked up with the independent axles, now all of this is in the idea stage so bring on the questions and concerns, with a 8" lift on front and a 6" lift at the rear it will sit level, heres my old wheeler I wore out, in the pic it has a brocken rear axle which prevented me going up the trail

Subaru? if so no I don't have anything like that easy to get or replace, I did ponder using a Toyota front IFS as guys throw them away when thay do a SAS and on the road I could unlock the hubs, I do have a Toyota rear axle with a locker so I could go with that , I already have 3.9 and 4.1 gears for the yota , if I went 3.9 that would match the front, if I went 4.1 I could run a 1-1/2 Dia difference so 30s on front 32s on the rear, 29 front 31s on the rear , now a local guy has a 4.30 3rd I could get then I could run 33s on the rear with 30s on the front that last option sounds good to me

OK more talk ha ha OK if this happens heres some items I want to address #1 Ive seen to many brocken rear axles and stub shafts, so the rear drive needs ditched for something stronger #2 Ive bent to many front radius rods and a-arms so that needs redesigned to prevent brakeage and bending #3 I learned my lesson on blown headgaskets so a good cooling system with a good Temp guage is a must #4 a winch sure comes in handy #5 I tend to smash the passenger side light and fender so a good protective bumper side bars are in order, maybe exo- cage also #6 I need room for 3 just in case the family comes along so 3 Buckets maybe #7 rears to heavy and need a better deparcher angle so the rear gets bobbed #8 Sliders should save my doors and rockers #9 I want lower gears but I don't like the loss of center ground clearance you get with a Transfercase, but with a bunch or weight removed and some Low Torx cams from Delta Cams it will be fine #10 still to come

Time for a new wheeler, maybe
Its been a few years since I built myself a new Wheeler, think its time for another, my last one was a Impreza with a 6" lift and a dual range , I would like to take a gen1 Legacy wagon and give it a bob , add a dual range and a rear straight axle, 30-33" tires, maybe shorten the wheelbase a bit, heres a photoshop chopped car I made up, if the rearend ratio was higher then the dualrange I could run bigger tires on the rear , maybe 30s up front, brace up those front A-arms cause there weeklings, trickys part would be the rear suspension

Outback hitch mounted winch power
Ive had many a year with real world experience with winches, the bigger the better, cheep brands don't hold up, we had a 3000 HF winch on a car and we pulled the free spool knob out and the spool rewound and caused a rats nest of cable on the spool not sure if the new model dos that this was 4 years ago, another item that needs used is a pulley, when used properly it will double your winch capacity , good luck, have fun and be safe Scott

money
money or no money I would have something small, Ive had a Jeep CJ5, Jeep Cherokee,Toyota Pickup, fullsize pickup , Many Subaru wheelers, Quad, 3-Wheeler, Small rail dune buggy, I like the feel and nimbleness and the ride of the Subaru , the best bang for the buck is probably a Jeep Cherokee, If some one gave $20K Id pickup a mid 70s Toyota Land Cruiser with a hard shell and fix it up, well that's not going to happen I think Ill just up grade a Subaru with a stronger rear axle and stronger front A-arms and call it good
- EA82 How do we feel about it?

clipping a car?
3 spots, both windshield posts, and the floor under the seats, take good measurements of the windshield area, at the posts sleave it with some smaller tubing that will slip into the posts, at the floor overlap the metal, the doors will be your guild as were it all goes back, I would think finding another body would be your best bet, I have a EA81 wagon I might let go of , good luck , is the roof ok on the Hatch? , if not it will need straightened.

Camp Buggy
a few years ago I started building my daughter a gokart out of a Honda 3-wheeler motorcycle and realized why not build it out of Subaru parts, so I threw this together out of cast off parts I already had , hense the EA82, EA81 4 speed and shortened wagon , all parts I had with no use for, and with a tow bar , lights etc. and the cars Licensed in my name I can tow it to were we need to go , I had plans to build another for me and it has a EJ22 with Delta Low Torx cams it may of may not happen

Camp Buggy
Every year the family goes camping at property on the Nooksack river here in Whatcom county, the property is owned by my family , this year we are going deeper back and found a nice swimming hole, its all overgrown with brush, small trees, bamboo and blackberries so we need to do some clearing to get vehicles and campsites set up so its time to get the buggy going. buggys been sitting since last summer, when parked it had a coolant leak , and the clutch was slipping, I put in a new battery and fired her up and the waterpump went out and the fan hit the frame, so I installed a different pump and also installed all the belt covers as they were missing, runs good now, the engine was from a 85 so theres no computer and it has a weber, good combo for the trail. here it is all buttoned up with new pump and covers then I removed the clutch and found this, never seen this before, this is what stopped the clutch from working, its a layer of grass, with maple tree seed shells, the grass was from last summer camping running thre the tall grass , the shells were from the mouse that left them in the flywheel housing, I put it in the press to rerlwase pressure and with a screw driver , compressed air and a vacuum cleaned it out, the clutch disc wasn't to bad, the pressure plate was a little groovy but all I had so it went back together,

Uberoo, sorry bout the mishap, glad no body got hurt, if the windshields good, not cracked if it was me I would straighten it as good as I could , chop some of the front off and build it back up with tubing, easier then you think , get anew hood and fenders and the sheet metal will help you line it all back up, I used to work in a Autobody shop
