  2. FOLLOW UP: I tested all wires up to the radio and replaced proper fuses, (glass Fuse on radio unit). Seems like my Clarion stock radio took a crap . now begins the hunt for one. Thanks for yall's help.

  4. Hello, I recently got a hold of a 82 gl with a ea81 and a 5spd tran 4x4. I removed the engine and replaced head gasket front and read main oil seals and valve cover seals. I remobed the stock weber carb in it and installed a new weber carb. This was put into my 84 subaru dl 2wd. Anyway just kinda take take a good look at engine ans see what gaskets need to be replaced.. much esier to work on engine when its out of car and also to clean. In my opinion ea81s are very easy to work on. Good luck.

  7. Hello. Having trouble with my electric choke. When the weather is hot i have no problem starting car and driving it around. Problem came when one morning it was a little cooler and engine would not stay on by itself only by playing with the gas pedal. I know this has to do with the choke. I currently have electrick choke conecyed to the back of alternator. Maby i need a different source of constant 12V from somewhere. I am using a weber carburetor any ideas were i can properly connect the electric choke too? I beleive power source should only be there when i turn the key. Thanks.

  9. Hello. I have a dash matt on the way. I have a tan interior and the matt orderd is black and cut to fit my dash. My cars DLs interior if 95% good with the exception of a couple cracks on the dash. I decided the dash matt would be the best solution to cover up cracks. I will let you know how the dash matt looks when i get it in. Anyway i believe covering up the dash would be the better way to go.
  10. Hello again. I ha e a ea81 1.8 engine sitting in my driveway. I removed this engine because i could not get cylinders 2 and 4 to fire. I did replace the engine head gaskets and cleaned the valves in headers and put it back together. When i installed engine back in car i was not able to get it to fire correctly. I have new wires spark plugs rotor and cap and nogo. I did pull the wires from cylinders 2 and 4 and did see a spark in them. Obly reason i know these two cylinders are not working is because the engine will have a terrible shake to it and by plasing my hand below the header were exhaust goes only one side was hot. Could it be that i have a bad distributor even tho i see sparks coming from wires 2 and 4? Thanks.
  11. Make sure you have a vacuum line to master cylinder. Break pedal will sink to floor if this is disconnected. This happened to me
  12. Greatings. Currently have no power to my factory FM radio in my 84 DL. I have checked the fuse (15A) in fuse box and glass (2 amp) fuse behind radio. No luck so far. Radio stoped working a few months back. All the wiring is original and has not been messed with. Any ideas?

  15. Can i just remove the fuse in fuse box to deactivate the ecm?
  16. So i pulled out the transmission and engine from my 79 and pulled them apart. When i removed the flywheel and crankcase i found this. The camshaft seems to have been falling apart and all the parts have fallen in the oil pan along with the rear main seal. So my question is were do i go from here. I have been looking for a camshaft gear but no luck. It seems like the only damaged parts here is the camshaft gear the rest looks good. But could there be more internal damage because of this? Engine would start right up before i took it apart.
  17. Does anyone know what the ECS light is on the dash? I recently did a weber swap on my 1984 Subaru DL. Var runs better and stringer than ever. My only concern is that afther a while of running it (15 minues or so) a ECS light comes on. Is this anything serious what could it be and how do i get rid of it. I never had any lights come on before the swap. Thanks

  19. Found this awesome little 1979 Subaru DL 1.6 EA-71 wagon on ebay and drove from Denver Colorado to Logan Utah to get her. Previous owner was sad to see the little wagon go but i told him i had good plans for her and it wasn't going to be parted out. Car was currently running but rear main seal was shot. I loaded her on a trailer and hauled her home. It has been sitting on my driveway for a couple months now and i been working on it slowly but surely. Finding parts for this car is hard but makes it fun having that extra challenge. The interior is a little rough but nothing i cant handle. The body is pretty fair considering the year. The previous owner named her RubySu so the name is staying. It even has a name tag on the front plate holder. So far i have pulled out the wngine and transmission together and will be determining how much restoring the motor will need.
  20. I bought a 1984 DL FWD just like yours in white for 800. Put in a new weber and rums like new. Love my 84 and keeping it for a while.
