  1. actually mine took really no modification at all. i dont happen to have a pic at the moment since the ones i took were with the bunch i lost at my last comp crash. but i took the part that was normally at the bottom and bolted it in the top location that on the bottom i used a timing belt tensioner arm as a spacer of sorts and bolted it to that and then up to the stock slider spot, i used the tensioner arm since i didnt have any spare steel around at teh time. basically it only took me like 20 mins to swap it in, took me longer to get the wireing right though!!! and my hookup is with the ac compressor still on, ill try to get a pic of it later to post up.
  2. i dont know the exact part # but i can tell you it was the 1 i bought for my 89 chevy astro with all the power goodies. so maybe that will help a little
  3. i gotta say ive been pretty impressed with this alt since ive put it on a cpl months ago., i can turn on every single accessory including my driving lights and high beams and it doesnt even move on the voltage, think the thing that impresses me the most though is when i have had to jump start my diesel benz it doesnt even dip down, funny part though is my diesel battery is twice the size of my sooby battery.
  4. just make your own there is enough general info on the lifts around the site if you look around long enough, i know somewheres there is pics of both the AA lift and the PK lift, as well as the page with the homemade lift. im in the process of making a simple homemade 2 to 3 inch lift out of 2 inch square steel tubing, just been figuring out on the camber as well, its slow going for me right now since im in the process of my benz project at the same time
  5. thanks for the info thats a big help. im not sure on exactly how much im gonna need since im not posative how high im gonna go yet, will most like be a 3 to 4 inch lift though, might even just go with 2 inches, all i really need is enough to keep my tires from hitting the fender when i jump it or whatnot, and its a d/r manuel tranny in the car
  6. im just curious on your steering extensions are you just cutting the piece that comes outta the column or the other side, then welding it at the length you need??and in either case could i use that piece from a parts column instead of cutting the original?
  7. i usually get the 'your crazy' looks when they look over and see the car covered in mud, a few co-workers have asked me before why i got those big tires on it and after i tell them its got hi-lo 4wd they think its cool. have even gotten the respect of a cpl offroaders by making it up hills they they cant even make it up, and i was rolling on stock tires with street tread then.about the only ppl that seem irritated are the cpl that have rigs that have the rockerpanels even with the bottom of my window yet when we compare the underside i have as much if not more ground clearance then they do!!!even had 1 guy go buy bigger tires since for soem reason he felt inferior lol
  8. i have actually considered dropping my 5cyl from my benz into the sooby but havent decided for sure yet
  9. well since i did my little lift i am finding that i really beat the crap outta the front suspension on the wagon, just didnt notice it much with the smaller tires, now that i got the 235/75's on i can really tell. just put on another set of lower balljoints yesterday because the other ones had alot of play to them(which were perfect when i bought the car), because the front tires were wobbling at anything over 45 or so. and now that i got it back together and took it down the road i find out that apparently the bearings on both sides are bad as well.so it still wobbles, well hopefully the ones that i pulled off my parts car are still in good shape.well at least my tie-rod ends still seems to be good so i guess thats 1 good thing!!!
  10. well part of my reason for doing this Adog is because i dont want to put that kinda money into my roo i got more of my funds going toward my veggie benz right now.and if i i decide i need to and get the time i actually have the bolts and steel to drop the differential down.probably wont bother though. i figure if i break an axle then i need to make some adjustment. as for the front i think im just gonna trim the fenders up since i dont want to put anymore strain on the axles and at least give it a little downtravel ability. basically ill keep trimming it till the tires dont rub at their highest travel point, about the only problem ive noticed on the back is it is pretty much at its max downtravel point, but at max uptravel point i still have about 2 inches before it would rub the wheelwell. thanks pesky your welcome to use the idea if you wish, btw forgot to mention these are made from 2 inch thick wall steel tubing cut in half. hey numbchux you had to learn the hard way just how much thay could take huh???lol
  11. no problem gary ive asked i dont know how many questions myself about them. and the way im doing my lifting is pretty much simular to putting a set of suspension lift blocks on a truck. and it does move the back wheels a little toward the back door very simular to the way i have seen the AA lift do. this really is nothing like the full body lifts other ppl have done here, just a basic clearance thing as for the rear differential yes they drop them to help with the axle angles. but 1 mine are almost at their max downward travel, and 2 looking at the axle angles on flat ground they seem like they are no more than i have seen on other peoples lifts. the axles only follow the body up if you just do a simple lift like me if you do the fullout body lift most have done here the motor and drivetrain will be moved down away from the body. im still learning on these lifts myself so i will really only be able to answer questions about what im doing pretty much, there are alot of guys here that can get alot more technical about the stuff than I. my basic reason for doing is i want the more ground clearance with the bigger tires but i dont want to cut my fenders any higher, though i may have to on the front since i dont want to put too much more of an angle on the front axles but i will see just how much i have to play with on that.i know im tired of dragging the whole drivetrain at stock height going through the ruts left by the bigger trucks.as it is i have already slammed up the rear floorpan on the drivers side up about 4 inches from it hitting while offroading.
  12. last filter change i did on the sooby i just used the cheapy autozone one. and my sooby and my breeze pisses through oil to the point that i dont even bother to change the oil anymore since ive already added enough for 2 oil changes lol, i usually run 10w50 or 20-50 oil of the dollar store type in the soob and my breeze, and about every 4 quarts i put in some type of oil addative
  13. the spacer in the rear is a cpl pieces of steel bolted to to the top of the coilover and then up to the mounting spot up top, heres a pic of how it had looked before i redid that crooked piece(i drilled the hole off so i made a new piece) as for the front im gonna make a spacer for the top of the strut where it bolts up to the body, right now though it is only the stock adjustable suspension adjusted up. and it is a stronger setup than it looks, i have done a few jumps and haulling a$$ through the bumpy field i got and it hasnt bent at all
  14. well fried my comp a cpl weeks ago and got a little bored in my free time and did a little lift to the roo, the back is lifted up about 3 inches in all with the suspension adjusted up and some steel extensions on the top(ill get a decent pic of them tomorrow) up front is just the suspension adjusted up but im gonna put a 1 inch spacer on the top of the strut and that should hopefully keep it from bottoming out into the fender the rear doesnt hit the fender at all now even with jumping. the tires are drilled out izuzu's with 235/75/15's on them, tires are a bit worn and when i go to get some newer ones ill likely go down a size on them. anyways heres the pics of how the cars looking
  15. anyone know the the measurements from the bottom of the motor mount to the top of the air cleaner. or from the motor mount bolt up spot to the hood. basically im looking for the overall hood clearance # from the mount bolt up spot up.
  16. if you get the tracker i would definatly put a rollcage in it, since everyone ive every seen doing anything ore than mild stuff offroad has flipped them over. there is 1 guy around here with a lifted samari, ide say about a 4 ince lift and running i think it was 31's or 33's and he cant even go around a corner faster than 25 without it trying to lift 1 side off the pavement, basically i think that they just have a really crappy center of gravity.and as for my sooby while i never got around to lifting it it did ok offroad, but my old 89 2wd astrovan with a 5 inch lift and 33's AT could go through way more stuff than my sooby can, though it did try to tip alot lol, never flipped it though. for the practical offroader though ide say the wrangler as well since there are tons of repair and reinforceing stuff available for them
  17. hmmm i forgot all about this thread, guess its from my mud bogging days, i would personally think that you wouldnt want to go any smaller than 1 inch at most
  18. why not just get the complete sutup from a parts car?? seems like a little less hassle to just use something that was made for the car.
  19. well not sure of the weight of the a hatch but used the 2wd 87 hatch i had to tow home my 85 wagon after i snapped a timing belt through 5 miles of up and down mountian roads.
  20. hmmmm it sounds like it might be a bit of a pita to adapt it to a subaru setup. may not attempt it unless the vehicle is in completely unrunably condition, however a buddy of mine just told me about a mitsu 4x4 diesel truck for sale with bed and cab damage that im gonna look into in the next day or two, maybe the frame and running gear is all in good shape and i can just go with the full out frame swap i was thinking about doing anyways. btw sorry i hijacked my own thread and got it off topic, the homebrew biodiesel has just been an interest of mine very much lately with these rediculous gas prices back on subject a little though, can i asume since noone has chimed in on successfully doing a complete job that the only way its been done is chopping it off and leaving it that way? the other reason im interested in this is a have already hauled 2 riding mowers and a dirtbike home in the back of my soob(obviously at different times lol) and that was a really fun adventure getting the stuff in. anyone have some thoughts on a truck tailgate that might fit for the most part in the sooby opening? since the space is so small when i get another riding mower next year i wanna be able to have the tailgate be able to withstand the weight of a mower on it, among other things as well. you know if everything falls into place this might be a little unique sooby lol. 4x4, solid axle, biodiesel, baja'd ea82
  21. thanks for the support on the layoff guys zyewdall you know its kinda funny but if the vehicle i pick up isnt driveable just runs good i was planning on doing the very same thing in my sooby since my motor is crap in it anyways, btw you can build the processor for $200 or less if you can find a hot water heater and electric pump cheap. luckily my dad is funding my biodiesel project since he wants me to do all the trouble shooting stuff and basically write up every thing he needs to know from my experience. ill get my fuel stuff for free since my wife is a manager at hardees here and the big boss was estatic to have someone haul it off for free instead of having to pay for it to be hauled off. about the only thing ill have to pay for is a little extra electric usage and the catalist for the grease. im talking to a guy right now about getting a diesel rabbit off him so hopefully it will work out so i can get this stuff started. but im really hoping i can find work again soon to get this sooby project going 2.
  22. well maybe i used the wrong wording when i said baja i was thinking that was what the new car with the bed was called. im probably not gonna be doing all that much offroading with the sooby anymore, i just seem to keep breaking too much crap on it because of it. nipper i dont want a brat, 1 because i dont really care for how they look(no offense to owners of them) and 2 i always like something different anyways. cant remember the brand name i was looking at but it is a 115v wirefeed, unfortunatly it looks like im gonna be waiting a while to do this since i just got laid off today, and told my wife not to get it yet since i wanna make sure my kids have a good christmas first. ill still attempt this project later on if i havent blown the motor in the sooby yet. at least on the plus side i can still do the biodiesel experiment since my dad is funding me for that project. hey zyewdall you running homebrew or buying your biodiesel???might have a few questions in a little while for you if you are running the homebrew. thanks for your replies and sorry it took so long to respond, work had been crazy the last cpl days and apparently i worked my butt off for nothing
  23. im curious if anyony has done the complete job of turning an ea82 into a baja, so you got that little pickup type space in the back?i know there is a member or 2 that has just cut off the back but dont know that there is anybody that has actually boxed everything in and closed it up.also has anyone come up with any ideas about making the 1/2 of hatch left flip down like a regular tailgate? or just the ghetto method of something like deadbolts??? i will most likely be using the rear hatch glass for the rear window, may even design it where it can flip up as well, but that is still up in the air since i want the structural support. wifey is getting me a welder in 2 weeks so i may be starting on this project sooner than later and would appreciate some imput, also i am planning on boxing in the section where the roof will end for extra support, but im wondering if i should also weld in some metal on the bottom as a sorts of frame support since i will be doing some light hauling with it as well, mainly garbage runs and 2 55 gallon containers filled with french fry grease (biodiesel experiment on another car) thanks in advance
  24. i have my 105 amp alt from an 89 chevy astro and i still have the ac on my car(or at least the compressor. and the only thing i had to do was make a small bracket to extend the bottom 1 a little further out, which a timing belt tensioner arm with the roller part removed worked perfectly for. and other than a misswire at first i have had no problems with it at all and it handles every bit of drain i can put on it at once, at idle. and i have an inboard mounted ac compressor. not sure what model alt i have but heres a pic of it installed. i do however need to get around to removeing 1 of the spacers in the pully as it sticks out a hair too far and slightly wears on the belt
