  1. You'd be surprised what lurks in suburbia. My grandparents neighbor had a Diablo for a while. This was in a modest section of VA Beach. They are on the water, but everything is on the water around here. The guy was living in a single story ranch. His daily driver was an NSX. He said he got lucky and sold his local programming company to one of the big guys and retired early. He was probably 10 years older than me. Must be nice. He sold the Lamb though. He said it was too much trouble to have fun with. He said it got like 3 miles to the gallon and he was tired of getting pulled over by cops who just wanted to take a look. He is tricking out the NSX now. Also, a local resturant ownder has a new ferrari of some sort. Missy Elliot lives here. A while back there was a story about her mechaninc getting in trouble while driving her lamborghini w/o her permission. There are a couple of those new Bentleys I see in the vallet lots at the fancy resturants in town and someone has one of the new top of the line Porsches. I forget what its called. Oh, and there is a guy with 3 uni-mogs, but they are old beaters. Hummers (real ones) are a dime a dozen here. VA Beach is the 4wd mecca of the east coast. God knows why, its flat, not many good places to go offroad, and it never snows. Its all about status I guess. My friend sells cars. When he was selling Infinitys he said that they always had the most Qx4s ordered in the mid atlantic and his buddies who sold other makes said the same about thier 4x4s. So people have generally every kind around here. We had G-wagons before you could buy them from the dealership, A surprising number of Defender 90s and a couple of 110s, and one guy has a Laforza which is an Italian SUV (I think). Oh, we even had a Lamborghini truck owned by a local used car salesman. that was cool. By the way, I thought your pics were awesome. Its always cool to see that much automotive muscle in the same place at the same time. especially when you aren't in South Beach.
  2. This is from Subaru3's site. When I was at JMU they had golf carts fitted with snowchains and plows to do the sidewalks. They did a pretty good job and looked cool. But I would definately agree that it would be tough on a subaru's drive train and unibody, and probably not a bad way to heat up the engine and lose a head gasket. It would look really cool though.
  3. That was great! Really really really made me miss my old Gl wagon! I loved throwing into corners on gravel roads like those and letting the back wheels catch and straighten her out! If I tried that in my Jeep I'd flip. Great job.
  4. Good info! You are obviously very knowledgeable in this area. I am wondering though if the compressor and sender unit could not be replaced with one of the aftermarket onboard air kits for trucks? There are several available for air lockers and compressors for running tools. Could you get a hold of one of these and modify it to drive the sube air struts? Just wondering. Bear in mind I have no experience in this arena and very little knowledge. Thanks for humoring me. -Jack
  5. Really nice looking car! I had those Subaur fog lights on my gl wagon! I got them off of a justy I think, but I'm pretty sure that whoever put them on the justy got them off of an XT6. They were sweet. IPFs if I am not mistaken. I busted mine off on the beach or something.
  6. The sad thing is that car probably has more cargo capacity than a baja...
  7. got any more morris minor pics?
  8. I just thought that by now there would be a cheaper alternative to $600 replacments like an aftermarket item or something. Anyway, I like the idea of pnuematic adjustment, but I can see the weaknesses. After seeing the new range rovers though, I think a Subie with the same set up would be sweet. Has anyone tried aftermarket air bags like thy put on the big monster trucks and the low riders?
  9. My wagon did not have this option. I always thought it seemed like a cool thing to have though. But I see that a lot of people choose to swap in normal struts. What was the major flaw with the air ride? Would it be possible to modify the system so that you could ride at a lower height than what came from the factory but then hit the button and still have the extra ground clearance if you wanted to?
  10. hmmm.... I wonder if you could have special ordered it. The car struck me as having some features that did not seem all that common. I didn't think that you could get wagon wheels on the top of the line cars in 89 either. If I remember correctly, the grill was white (matching the body color). Would this have made it a loyale?
  11. Good stuff here. Great info. I'd love to see pics (interior and exterior) from the guys on this thread that presently roll the elusive GL10 sedan.
  12. By coupes I meant the ea81 2 door cars that were not hatchbacks. You know like that one with 30k on it that Paul is babystting. I could have sworn that the ea81 turbo coupes had that panel, but I know that you know a lot more about these cars than I do. So basicly what you are saying is that only ea82 turbo sedans got this panel and no other cars?
  13. There was a sweet one around here back in the day. It was white with white wagon wheels. The thing about the wheels though is that they looked just like normal sube wagons wheels but the center caps had an "S" in the middle on a black background instead of the subaru emblem over orange or blue. Anyway, it was nice. i can't remember if it was a Loyale or not. It was 4wd and I think I looked through the window and saw a d/r shifter. Its easily been 10 yrs.
  14. I did not want to hi-jack the "how rare are GL10 sedans" thread. But after reading it, I was wondering about this. I'm pretty sure it only came on the ea82 cars as opposed to the ea81s, but I could be mistaken. Some of the sedans came with a red reflective panel beneath the trunk lid between the tail lights and I think it almost always said turbo. This feature was not unlike one offered on turbo volvos of the 80s. Did this panel come on the coupes too? Did it come on the ea81 cars? Did it always say turbo or did the natural GL10s have it too? Thanks. -Jack
  15. I can't pick just one. I have liked Brats since I was a little kid. I had an 86 gl wagon when I was 19. It was great and I loved it. Now I would like to find a convertible. The ea81 coupes were really nice too. But, I like the ea81 saloons as well. But yeah, I'd love to have a convertible with round headlights and a turbo. I realize that they didn't come that way, but I'm pretty creative
  16. You don't have a link for any pics or anything do you?
  17. A couple of dumb questions? Were all GL10s turbo? Did n/a GL10s have the black rubber door thingy? Did the GL10 coupes have this? Thanks. -Jack
  18. I looked at buying one quite a while ago. It was like 8 or 9 yrs back. It had quite a few options. It was a turbo with the air ride and full time 4wd and trip computer. But it had steel wheels and hubcaps?? I figure it had been screwed with since it was at a used subie dealer. I passed because I wanted a wagon. But i don't see to many around now. Did they make ea81 GL10 sedans?
  19. Does yours have the "diff lock" ? I don't know if that came with all fulltime 4wd cars or not. Sounds like a sweet car you got!
  20. Sorry, I didn't mean to attempt a thread hi-jack here. In regards to what to do with your tired sube and your down payment, I would say have soe fun. Convert your car to 4wd, or AWD and I agree that you should get turbo. And, otherwise, go with what everyone else said. have fun!
  21. When is the last time you saw a touring wagon for sale? A while back, at least 5 yrs, I saw a 2 tone blue one in the junkyard. It was turbo 4wd with the diff lock, adjustable ride height and seemingly every other option. The touring wagons didn't get sunroofs right? Anyway, since I have been back on the board I think I have only seen 1 or 2 for sale and one of those was 2wd. I was just wondering how rare they are.
