  1. Something is up. 90 was never a problem in my 86 gl d/r 4wd 5spd wagon (natural). Nor was it a problem in my girlfriends 88 auto 2wd dl 3at sedan. I'm sure you get to 90 quicker than either of these cars, but it would seem that you should be able to do better. That was about top speed in the sedan and the 5th gear in the wagon would stretch it up to 95. Anything more and I needed a tailwind or a hill.
  2. Go for it! Do it yourself. If you don't, you are missing out on one of the coolest parts about owning a subaru; the ability to wrench on it yourself. $2300 is way too much to spend on a car that old for those repairs. As mentioned by some other members here, you may be able to stagger the repairs. Obviously, don't wait on the radiator. But minor oil leaks can be put off until your next paycheck etc... just make sure to keep pouring oil in. Don't be intimidated. Be patient, read the posts, use the search function, and ask a lot of questions. Also, a great first start for you would be to go and download the How To Keep Your Subaru alive book. It is posted on this board in PDF form for free! Its a well written book that explains how to fix subarus to people that don't know how to work on cars. Good luck!
  3. I've got a hunch that you are going to get a few responses on this one
  4. Blownbimer- looks like another vote against your fleet :-\ Oh well, you can't please everyone. Do youhave any more pics of the beige wagon? I'd like to see the cool 80s graphics. Thanks.
  5. Ah ha! It all makes sense now. Its a very cool wagon.
  6. Sorry, I'm a little confused. Did you put the MTN Griz graphics on the car? Did youhave them made or did youjust come across them. You mentioned replacing a fender; will this screw up the graphics? Thanks. This has always been one of my favorite cars on this board, and I have been on here a while. Glad to see she's back in good hands.
  7. :slobber: um...you may have just changed my mind about picking up a subaru..... (just kidding)
  8. I like it. A lot. I have given a lot of thought to doing this on a GLF coupe. I don't think the 4 headlamps go with the otherwise rounded lines of the car. Now, how the hell did you do it?
  9. I was cooking coils pretty regularly in my Jeep. When I replaced the first fried one with a napa part it died in 2 days. When I used the mopa replacement it lasted for almost a year. A friend reccomended moving the coil further from the engine to reduce the heat. It seems to have helped. 2 years on this coil.
  10. Wow, that was a touring wagon. Have you been tested for color-blindness by any chance? Just kidding. I love green subies.
  11. For some reason I thoght we'd see a lot more cars in the 3 and 400,000 range. I sold mine with 200k on the clock (for twice what I paid ) And that was almost 8 years ago. Didn't burn a drop of oil either. But it had a slow leak on the right valve cover.
  12. Like "thinking" of a smarter way to do it, or "caring" enough not to tear your sube apart because you cant find a buddy or a shop with a lift?
  13. Thanks. I must have scrolled right past those. I guess its the hardtop/coupe that I can't find pics of with the single round lights. The DL cars in those brochures are facing with thier grills away from the camera.
  14. I like them both, inspite of the trends and my personal likes and dislikes!
  15. I can't find any pics of 80-82 DL subes with the single pair of round headlights. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
  16. The sad thing is that he destroyed a great old brat. I have nevre seen that color combo before. I mean couldn't he have dropped some old 2wd chevy pickup pos? I have a friend from georgia. His theory about that red clay is that once it gets caked on the bottom of a truck it blocks out rust. He is probably wrong, but its an interesting theory.
  17. I could never get my 86 gl wagon to shine either. It was pretty beat cosmeticly when I bought it. I could also not get my girlfriend's old 88 dl sedan to shine, but I'm pretty sure it had been repainted wi/ cheap acrylic paint. So I think these may have both been unique cases. I have seen plenty of ea subes that had good paint.
  18. correct me if I'm wrong, but anything that isnt turbo or supercharged is naturally aspirated.
  19. Well, I just ran out to get a taco. This is my attempt at night time photography. So this is the Brat. Not to get too argumentative 82 Brat, but your descritpion fits any 4wd sube. And they can be had for a lot less. The appeal of this truck is that its here now. I don't ahve to look for it. I like the color. It has the options I want. If it doesn't need any work (and who knows) and it has AC, it would be a lot of fun to drive around this summer. But on the other hand, if I put half of 3500 into my Jeep it too could be a lot of fun.
  20. Awesome! I was also going to ask about the interior. Does it have the checkerboard seats?
  21. How did you find it? I looked but no luck. Yeah, they did get some pretty sweet subes down under.
  22. Mine used to do that. I always thought it was the alternator crying out in pain:lol:.
