Not to give you a hard time, but I don't quite understand your question. -Jack

I didn't want to hi-jack the subaru race car thread, but Paul's last post got me thinking. He said that he regularly attends the vintage races at Lime Rock (I am totally jealous!) and said he had not seen any subes there. I am wondering if there are any vintage rally races doen anywhere in the world. That would be awesome to see all of those great old rally cars like the old Audis, the Porsche 959, and of course the subarus through the years!

Vintage Soob Racer on Ebay
Jack in Norfolk replied to Hocrest's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
what a rare find, I mean how many subarus of this vintage could have been built up to race. I would guess less than 10, at least in this country. -

My Mint 84 Touring Wagon
Jack in Norfolk replied to suburpy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Awesome car! You are very lucky! This is so neat to see on a couple of different levels. As an American, I have never seen an ea81 touring wagon. Nor have I seen the gold badges. Is it a turbo? We didn't get ea81 touring wagons over here if I am not mistaken. And, the car is in immaculate shape!! What, was the thing locked in an air-tight vault for the last 20 yrs? Very bery impressive. -Jack -

could someone post a pic? I am having trouble visualizing this. What was the point, to check your fly or to sell more cars to 80s cokeheads ? -

congrats! I used to have one of those. Got any pics? -
Nice truck. The black gen 2 in the background is nice too. It doesn't look like there are jump seats in either one though.

I have lloked at both the Liberty and the Passat. Neither is suitable to tow very much. I presently own a 93 Jeep Grand Cherokee and I was really disapointed when the Liberty came out. I don't like the lack of solid axles and the 23 mpg is really not that impressive for a turbo diesel. Especially when the vehicle is so small and light. The Passat is very expensive but otherwise I like it. I am pretty sure that use of biodiesel voids the warranties on both of these vehicles. I read something about this somewhere. Its total crap because in europe, where both the Liberty and Passat diesels are available, it does not violate the terms of the warrenty.

Edmunds, ebay, whatever.... In my experience money talks and bs walks at the junkyard. If pick a reasonable number and show up with the cash and put it on the counter, I would imagine the odds are good that you will get your brat for the price that you want, or closer to it than if you hadn't tried.

It would be great if they sent it to the US. I would be surprised if they did though. It would give the Jeep Liberty CRD some compettition.

Actually, yeah, this makes a lot of sense. Forget what I said. Buy it. But do it like Luvmybrat said. Go for better wheels and a motor and also, try to talk him down on the price. Save the brat!

Yeah, and Subarus never leak oil As for the electric problems, I'd believe it. After all its a Brittish vehicle. they seem to have this thing with auto electrics. But by the same token Subarus are notorious for cracked heads and broken axles. So its really 6 in one hand and a half dozen in the other. As for the dealer "resealing" the truck, I'd be real wary of that. I could swear the people that work at some dealers (any brand) I have dealt with came straight from the short bus. The same thing with your buddy with the Alternator. It could be that the Brits can't build a decent truck (obviously not my opinion) or that most Americans don't know how to work on them, or the recent acquision by ford. Or, the guy with the alternator problem might have 4 stereo amps and an HID lighting system that he isn't telling you about. Even the best manufacturers put out lemmons. But I think that the Rovers and the Subarus by and large are quality products. It's be one thing if we were arguing Renault vs. Subaru.

I'm not convinced.

Andrew (wagonsonly) knows more about the value of Subarus than I do. With that said, keep in mind that some of those trim pieces are getting hard to find. I think the chrome piece on the tailgate is particularly sought after but I could be wrong. I guess it depends on what you want to do with it. If you want to fix it up and make it nice, you might look around. It seems like older subes in good shape less hard to come by out west. On the other hand if you just want a brat to have fun in and tool around you could almost certainly be on the road for less than a grand if that motor isn't toast.
