  1. I love Christmas Valley! Last time I was there we saw a couple Subies flying around the dunes. Good to hear theres some USMB'ers heading out there. Sounds like you had a pretty sweet expedition going there. Cheers.
  2. I'll second this one, I've been in so many situations where I shake my head and think "this things never going to run the same after [ insert stupid driving/offroad descision here ]" , but the thing still hums along like nothing happened.
  3. It's BEARING!! Sorry, it was really bugging me reading the thread... I really like the artist's rendition of your problem btw, that's about how I draw subarus too, no artistic talent here...
  4. Not sure if I'm THAT angry. I'm with you all on the dog thing, some people really neglect the fact that a pet, especially a dog, takes a lot of work and can't just be expected to behave on its own. My sister is the epitomy of irresponsibility, you make a joke about me dragging her around a junkyard, but I've been there. She backed her truck into my other Subaru this summer, and I hunted for the parts, I fixed it, and I painted it. I even left her an implied warning, look at my avatar. Have I seen a penny or a sincere apology? You bet your butt I haven't... Just for kicks here it is bigger... Doesn't look too serious from here, but involved new radiator, new hood, lights, grill, etc.
  5. You don't know how much will-power it took me not to beat that dog to death (I don't mean to make that sound like I beat animals to death when my will-power's low). To add insult to injury in the whole situation the dogs giving me the no-brain "Hey look it's a friend!" look when I walk up. The thing that killed me is that the dog got moved to where the sube is a month ago and the dog hasn't touched it, no paw prints, no claw scratches. As soon as the door is left open the mutt goes Kujo on it. I guess I'm still to blame for not moving the car when my sister moved the dog into its vicinity. Didn't make my day any better either way. :-\
  6. I get a call from my sister when I was at work, and she tells me somebody left the door open on my backup subie (probably her, but beside the point). The kicker is her dog is chained up in reach of the car. Just for a background I didn't plan on keeping the car and was going to strip anything good off it and take the rest to the junkyard... Anyway, Kathleen tells me the dog, a young lab, jumped in through the door and managed to do this... Notice the dog looking a little sheepish, me cursing up a storm when I saw this is an understatement... So I keeping the interior will be a No.
  7. 86 GL, Bought brand new by my mom. According to my dad, she's such a good haggler that as they pulled away from the dealership you could see the salesman and manager just standing there shaking their heads looking defeated. From what I understand she got the Sube for almost the same as the dealership buys them, no joke.
  8. The Mollala hills are a lot of fun if you like sliding around gravel corners and such, can't guarantee a lot of mud pits, but I always had a good time tearing up the trails strewn about that area...
  9. this is getting further from the topic, but how about the movie Office Space, "Ummmm yeahhh, Peter did you get the memo about the TPS reports?" . Great movie. Anyway... sorry, resume normal discussion...
  10. Kinda feels like my other front axle is about to go on my Loyale and heres my situation... It's finals week, and after i finish some celebratory drinking thursday, I'm moving most of the small stuff from my apt. home ( post sobering up ). Now, I'm moving this stuff 60 miles up I-5 and I'm prayin that the axle will hold. I have no tools here as I brought them home last week...so axle swap is outta the question. If the axle were to break loose somewhere along the way and I could find a non-interstate route home, how fast can you go with 4WD engaged, or is the 3WD a bad idea. Last time it happend was fortunate enough to have it happen about 2 miles from home so I limped it back going about 15mph cringing at the sound of the CV being torn even worse. This is worst case scenario here, so just lookin for opinions and experiences. Thanks - Steve
  11. You might want to contact CHIM, a thread of his regarding an 88 RX he picked up with a blown motor and a hacked off spoiler just got dug up, he might be interested: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=26206 I assume the 88 and 89 couldnt be that different, but that would be something for someone else to clarify as I know little about the exterior of the car. Anyway, just a suggestion. -Steve
  12. You go to Oregon State? Your location and website are contradicting each other, tell me you're not one of those wretched UO Ducks... Nice car, and cheers to being an oregonian nonetheless. -Steve
  13. yeah i agree, plus just look at that guy, he looks like your typical sleaze-ball entrepreneur who's invented something "life-changing" ... like that tornado thing you slap in your air intake thats supposed to up your milage. I'll stick with stock gas milage, we drive subes after all...
  14. i check craigslist too, wasnt on there to the best of my knowledge, or autotrader. Had to have been a word of mouth find.
  15. how exactly did you get your hands on that baby!? I'll go hang myself if it was in the oregonian, nickel ads, or other periodical. congrats on that find.
  16. My 86 has 210k and my Loyale has 131k, the 86 runs better too
  17. how many rebuilds are into that 561K? Thats ridiculous. Get to one million and maybe subaru will set you up with a free STi or something, didn't Volvo do that once?
  18. I wasn't getting fuel after one of my wagons sat for a couple of months, scratched my head for a while, figured out the fuel pump wasnt sending, so i crawled under and thwhacked it with a hammer a couple of times, started right up. Must of been a peice of sediment settled weird and caught just right. Could be worth a try, could be more serious...just puttin in my 2 cents. -Steve
  19. snap! what model is that baby?, looks like a VW squareback. I like how it says it has a 140 liter engine, damn subaru used to make some big engines.
  20. big sized slurpees fit perfectly between drivers seat and e-brake lever Ive cursed that damn flat dash so many times before, get out of my car and cant find my cell phone and get really pissed and prepare to drive back to wherever i was last, and end up finding it in the passenger side pocket
  21. whats the story with the OT rally at PIR?, do they have some kinda track set up there, i imagine the stuff out in hillsburo or tillamook or wherever sundays events are would be more fun to watch? who's been? I want to know which i should go to.
  22. maybe something really cool happens when you bust out an 86 gl window and we dont know about it... I still find chunks of that damn tempered glass every once and a while, pisses me off everytime i see it.
  23. sorry for the loss, I had the same thing happen about 3 years ago, someone busted the window, didnt steal anything, and took off the park brake and pushed her onto some small boulders, just to be a wongleflute I guess. Its unfortunate people are like that. Funny enough it was my 86 GL wagon too, I have power windows though, i think i used the window from an 88 GL 4WD parts car and she worked fine.
