  1. Not to me, it wouldn't be. Especially in the rust belt. I vote you keep looking, for $1,500 you should be able to get a pretty good 'no issues' Subaru.
  2. Don't all the touring wagons have raised waybacks? And those slotted asymmetrical wheel covers used to be all over the place around here. Haven't seen any for awhile tho', guess they all came off and rolled into the borrow ditches.

mo bettah, you go stay 'dis BB fo' spok ou' all kine stuffs 'bout SuBAHroo. If you see one black Lebaron convertible wit' manini moon decals on da doors and trunk lid in Kapolei, geev'um one shaka, rump roast my numbah one son, an' ... rump roast my kah! I wen leave um fo' sell, and den his kah wen' maki-die-dead, so I geevum. Whadya goan do? Ohana, eh?
  5. See my posting in the 97 OBW dent thread on how you can 'sometimes' fix a hail dent.
  6. I learned the plunger trick many years a go when I worked at a gas station in Dallas. Don't even need the vaseline, just dip the plunger in a puddle, or run water on it. Push it in real slow to expell the air, then JERK it out ... plooomp out comes the dent if it isn't creased and deformed too bad. You can also do it with duct tape and a little rigging of a flat plate puller with a handle. Oh, and the hail dents? You can sometimes fix them by heating the dent with a hair dryer on high, until the metal is quite warm, then applying an ice cube on the ding. Dry ice works even better.
  7. That's the car, but if you are interested, the MT pics have all the wraps off, except the grille bra. It's just as ugly naked.
  8. Sorry, there's this thing called a 'copyright', you've heard of it no doubt. Both I and the board would be liable should I decide to scan a photo out of a published magazine and post it here.If you care to, go ahead. Or maybe you can find something on the net and link it (I couldn't). I just posted about something available to anybody out there, go look for yourself and form your own 'worthless' opinion, or not.
  9. Only the buggatisnout grille is masked, the rest of the car is in plain view ... BLEEEECCCCHHHH! It's got 'GM' written all over it. If this is the styling direction the marque is headed it's Sayonarabaru from the mtsmiths.
  10. Well, I'm in NW Montana and have definate ideas about snow driving. We have two AWD Subarus, and previously had two '87 GL-10s. They are/were unstoppable, and very sure footed in all weather and road conditions. That said ... If it weren't for our driveway from hell, a FWD 'Roo would do just fine. There's lots of FWDs around here, and you see them at the top ski mountain parking lot all the time. Before I'd lose that primo Falcon-in-combat-boots, I'd go for the FWD and put up with the occassional ride with the spouse. Hey, if you're really stuck, drive that Bronco out to Montana and you can take my '95 AWD Legacy back home ... oh, and bring a gallon of the real thing with you when you come.
  11. Of course you have a soft tissue neck injury ... you were rearended by an intoxicated driver, you should be wearing a 'lawyer's collar' right now! I mean, you DO want that new Outback H-6 with heated tush warmer don't you?
  12. Loud squeal when you rev it? They're loose.
  13. 1. Again, I think you are airlocked. I hope you haven't done heat damage while driving it under mechanics bads advice. Search this BB and burp it, pronto. I'll bet your overheating issues go away, assuming you have the correct thermostat installed (in the right direction). 2. You TOWED it to your friends house? ... groan.
  14. So this 'creation' had HOW MUCH rear overhang? By your verbal description I imagine loading the bed with firewood and the front wheels rising up in a grand zero forward speed wheelie.
  15. Just a follow-up after reading your response. I'll bet a case of Black-Star that the tow truck driver installed the fuse after he towed the car and said; "OH F*CK, this is a AWD Subaru!" As he dropped it off the quick-snatch hooks and noticed the smoke and smell.
  16. Dave, you are most welcome. I'm glad that one of the least technically endowed membrs of this BB could be of some assistance. The blessings of the impending season on you and yours. And BYGAWD it better snow tonight or I am gonna be P-Oed!
  17. Is the AWD lock-out fuse slipped in. Check the black box. I sure hope a tranny wasn't replaced 'cause someone had a flat tire, put the fuse in and forgot to take it back out. That would just be the worst mechanic screw-up/rip-off in the history of this BB. And we think the 'P'-light virginity is bad?
  18. The only thing that cured the click on both our '87 GLs was Rislone. And I allus run a 1/2 qt of MMO in all my engines, including the Lycoming. One oil change I substituted Rislone for one qt and the problem went away, never to come back.
  19. Ahhhh, someone else with good taste. Wings belong on airplanes, and formula race cars. They do almost nothing under 80 or 90 mph ... and even then, damnlittle.
  20. With 60,000 miles on this car why are YOU doing it, and not the dealer, under warranty? This is a well know problem on the 2.5 engines (altho' I thought it had been resolved by the 2000 series). Enquireing minds want to know.
  21. RUN! Any used car lot that sells a car with a known defect (even if disclosed) rather than repairing same is NOT to be trusted. Unless it's a back row 'mechanics special' for a few hundred, not a car advertised at over two thousand. Keep looking, there are lots of GOOD Subarus out there.
  22. Clutch? The '87 we towed with (mostly a utility trailer, occassionally heavy, and the notorious "Great Divide Hot-Tub trip") had a clutch of unknown age when I bought it at 130,000 miles. Still had the SAME clutch (and brakes) when I sold it at 212,000 ... and I see it running all over town delivering newspapers still.
  23. Prolly the O2 sensors. We've had ours replaced twice and we stil get a CEL regularly. Finally gave up and just live with it. Stay away from the stealership, I guarantee they'll try to sell you a new cat for $800.00. Check the VIN on the SOA site and see if the TSB for the O2 sensor has been done, if not SOA owes you a new one ... but DON'T let them do ANYTHING else.
  24. We towed a snowmobile trailer carrying a 7'x7'x3' enclosed hot-tub across the continental divide in a blizzard. No problems at all, except we drank a lot of gas because of the wind resistance. And this was with an '87 GL. I don't think you'll have any trouble at all. If it's an automatic, maybe add a tranny cooler?, Oh hell, it's a 'snowmobile' trailer, it'll be cold out, nevermind.
