  1. You guys got some nice snow. Didn't get that much here in Morristown. I was in Oak Ridge at about 6 this morning, it was coming down pretty nice. Beautiful drive going out hwy 95 on the way out.
  2. The probability of your Subie getting totaled increases with age I suppose. They say the same thing for houses in Kansas. Look at it this way, your Subie is DEFINITELY a survivor. Not even the laws of the universe can destroy it...
  3. Wow that guy was fast. No wonder he drives an STi...
  4. Camel tested. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TbWEXb8TEsg
  5. Be done? NEVER!! I'm trying to get a hold of an EJ d/r and looking into some king springs and new struts. Talking to a guy in New Market about a custom bumper too. Can't forget a skid-plate either.
  6. Let me know how well they do in the rain/fog Kyle. Looks very good. Have been considering some yellows to help with visibility in snow and rain, will probably go with your setup if you notice any difference.
  7. Ok nothing really related to having a problem so I guess this could be considered a waste of a thread but hey, I figured everybody would enjoy hearing me talk about how much I love my car. Man are these cars hard to knock the wheels outta line or what? My right front has seen a pot-hole that bottomed out the suspension, a curb sliding sideways in the snow at... 15ish?, and first snow we had (month ago now?) I tried to partically drive through a pile of snow in a parking lot that was ice. Yeah hit it pretty hard, was suprised I didn't break anything. And that was with my right front end. I went to Porter's tire today to have the wheels balanced and aligned because I don't want to unevenly wear my tires. THE DAMN THING'S STILL IN LINE!!! Jeez these things are tough. Best Subaru I've ever owned by far.
  8. There's nothing wrong with your engine. Your mechanic does not know what he's doing. PERIOD. There's no reason a non-interference engine that got a fresh timing belt wouldn't start, unless the person who installed it didn't do it right.
  9. It's common for the fuel gauge not to work accurately. Mine usually hits E at 10 gals even though it has 5.9 gals left in the tank. Why not just keep it full? Is it really so much of an inconvenience to look at the trip meter? Timing belt breaking shouldn't have done anything, it's a non-interference motor. If they told you the valves were bent I would be extremely suspicious... The cruise not working could be the clutch switch. The clutch pedal has a spring attached to it that pulls up so that it presses a button that closes the circuit for the cruise. If that spring breaks then it will not press that button.
  10. Driving my GL compared to my Outback, I would definitely say the GL cuts through the air better. It also gets about 4mpg better on the highway. I managed 41mpg in my EA82 sedan once, I wouldn't be suprised if you got that out of a 2wd spfi 5spd wagon.
  11. I might be interested. Where is deer island? I'm GUESSING it's somewhere in the NW... Does anybody have any idea if a brush guard off, say, an s-10 would work? Checking Craigslist for custom bumpers in the auto parts section and I'm liking what I see... but will any of it work? Anybody tried this?
  12. Anybody know of a good source for aftermarket heavy-duty bumpers? I've had so many close calls in my '96 Outback with deer I'd like some protection. I LOVE the bullbars like the ones seen on the Australian boards. The ones on SubaXtreme are pretty much what I want but does anybody know if something like that can be had in the states? Worse comes to worse I'll have one fabbed. Would rather find a manufacturer though... something tells me that won't happen though.
  13. Me and my dad changed the oil in his '93 Camry when we first got it. He drained the oil, changed the filter, put the plug back in and filled it back up. He ended up blowing most of the oil seals out of the engine and fried the transmission. He drained the transmission by accident.
  14. Is the truck 4wd? I've had dualie diesel Dodges up to 120, far more stable than any car. Is that really a suprise? And if something's wrong, go check it out. Everybody here has recommended checking suspension bushings and struts yet you've apparently done nothing.
  15. Why wouldn't you just convert it to AWD?? OR buy an AWD Legacy?
  16. That car is BEAUTIFUL. KEEP IT STOCK. And stay out of boost. These engines can be suicidal in their higher miles, even if you take good care of them. This should be a show car only being that it's so rare. Wow you're lucky...
  17. Eaton M62 Supercharger. Search google. That's not exactly cheap, but the whine of a supercharger is priceless.
  18. Well I was told in a text earlier than Kyle's RS has a bad case of the headgaskets. But boy does it suck for him... we actually get some decent snow and his car's in the shop. You need to borrow my GL??? It may not be as fast and it may not be as flashy either but... it'll grow on ya.
  19. Hope you have some luck with this. That would be an $$$ repair.
  20. 1996 Outback 5spd 2.2. 198,000 miles. I've been noticing a whirring noise coming from the rear that sounds almost exactly like tire noise. Rotated my tires and the noise is still coming from the rear. It used to be pretty constant, then I took it out in a gravel parking lot and did some drifts and doughnuts and now it's much louder when engine braking. Jacked up the rear and don't notice any movement in the wheel so not leaning towards wheel bearing. Haven't checked fluid in the diff, though I probably should. If it's low, should I go ahead and replace diff or will it be fine if I just drain what's in there and refill? Thanks guys.
  21. Too bad the 1st gens are so cramped, otherwise this statement would have prompted me to buy a beater 1st gen Legacy to fix up and drive.
  22. Might be a little late but Trico exact fits have always been awesome for me. I've had my same wipers for the past 5 months and they've seen quite a bit of rain including today, and they still work great. I do make sure to keep mine clean however. I've found with the Ancos that the rubber from the blades actually comes off on my windshield and I have to scrape it off with a razor blade. GARBAGE.
  23. Yeah went out to panther creek park to the soccer field while it was covered in snow and did some donuts:grin:. It was pretty dang muddy down there. Went to the lakebottom too and got even MORE mud on the Outback. The Impreza treating you good? The Outback is just as awesome as usual. Will probably never venture away from the Outbacks actually. They seem like the perfect Subaru.
