  1. Great choice in rig!! There's some pretty mean lifted Legacy's in Australia, there's some vids on youtube and google videos of some very capable Legos. EJ22 FTW!!
  2. It's on my EJ22 wiring harness. Just always wondered what it was. http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q200/SMASHmySOOByDONTya/EJ22%20conversion/DSC_0021.jpg
  3. It wouldn't be too hard to slap a 2.2 in your Outback. Sure less power, but like everybody has said... no piston slap issues, headgasket "issues", no blown bottom ends... There's a Subaru shop near me that has a ton of blown 2.5s sitting around. Every car that comes through his shop with a blown 2.5 gets an EJ22 swapped in it's place.
  4. The best I've gotten this winter was 34 highway, 32 mixed but during the summer I hit 38 highway but I wasn't really trying to get great mileage... so I could probably hit 40.
  5. Was at the park yesterday in my '93 FWD 5spd Impreza and decided to explore the lake bottom a little bit. Tried to stay up near the woods where there was still gravel... but it was no use. Slid to the left some and after turning the wheel right and realizing I wasn't getting anywhere, I put it in reverse and tried to gain enough speed to pull a 180. Well, I only pulled a 90 lol... and so I tried to go forward and turn the rest of the way around but slid straight toward the lake. So I gave up. Called my dad and him and his friend with a 4x4 Toyota Tundra pulled me out with a 20ft tow strap and 50ft of rope. The sad thing is it didn't even look stuck. It was just sitting there on top of the mud... tires looked completely free. I don't have pics of that, but I have some "muddy" pics. http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q200/SMASHmySOOByDONTya/Subarus/DSC_0015-1.jpg I know it's not much, but I guess that's all a FWD Impreza can do lol. P.S. The black dog is Macy, she's a border collie/cocker spaniel mix. She always gives my car a good smell-over when I get home.
  6. I think people who want to dump their SUVs for something more fuel efficient and rugged are going for Subarus. I have noticed a huge increase in the Subaru population around here. Not only new however... it's becoming more and more common to see EA82s and even EA81s.
  7. I say get under there with a rubber mallet and try to find the noise yourself. Then you'll know for sure it's the exhaust.
  8. They were following me so I couldn't just stop by. I called and told them I couldn't find a ride there, and they offered to drive my car back and have a seperate car following them so I was like "HELL YEAH!" haha. You'll see it sooner or later I'm sure. I'm thinking when my actually sees it she won't mind me having an extra car around because it actually looks really good. Just a cracked windshield and a slightly ragged interior with minor electrical problems.
  9. Yeah it did very well on the trip from Cookeville. 150 miles and the temp stayed steady as a rock. Seems quite a bit peppier than my Impreza wagon (EJ18 2wd 5spd 234,000 miles). I may end up reselling it just because I have too many cars... but I'm awfully tempted to keep it. The best thing I could do would be fix the minor issues and THEN sell it and I could make more money. It just drives so darn good I don't wanna get rid of it, lol. I'll have pics in a couple of days. :EDIT: It had very minimal rust on the rear fenders where they meet the bumper right at the wheel well. I don't think there was any on the front, I'll see when I pick it up at my sister's though.
  10. Wow, that thing really is a BEAST. Man I wish it would snow here.
  11. 1995 Subaru Impreza Coupe, AWD 5spd. 104,000 miles. Cruise control that works, and it runs and drives very nicely. Looks good on the outside, body's in very good shape. Now the bad... Dash lights don't work. There are no low beams, only high. No knob to roll down the driver side window. Cracked windshield. Check engine light. Loud exhaust. $525. Good deal?
  12. Yep the EJ25 is an interference motor. I think some late '97 EJ22s were as well, but all early '97 and below EJ22s were non-interference.
  13. No I haven't really been motivated to get it up and running after sitting in it and realizing how cramped it is. I might just sell it as is. Just needs the wiring and exhaust, hoses here and there and it should be finished. Really shouldn't have done all this work... after getting used to the Impreza it will only be an inconvenience to drive the GL. And let me rephrase my previous EJ statement. Don't go EA82.
  14. Just go EJ. That's what I did and I'm never turning back!
  15. 232,000 on my '93 Impreza, doesn't smoke and burns very little oil between changes.. Recently installed new Gates timing belt kit (complete with idlers and tensioner pulley) and a brand new Subaru water pump with Subaru thermostat and Gates hoses. Should definitely make it to 300,000 and greater with no problems. I love my Impreza.
  16. That's some really sad news... but don't forget to count your blessings. You've got a beautiful, reliable, economical young Hollie who will be by your side for MANY years to come. You have your independence. It's too close to the holidays to worry with this stuff right now. Keep him in the garage until you have the time to fool with him. Enjoy life while you can, it's too short not to. Maybe you could buy a giant glass case to display him in. You did a great job on that claybar . Even if he's not running he sure is a helluvacoupe to look at.
  17. If you could get it up high enough it may be easier to drop the transmission. Just be sure to keep up with the shifter bushings. I know this works with EA82s... not too sure about EA81s. So the rear main just got replaced and it's leaking again? That really does suck. What about the other seals? Everything else holding up fine? You HAVE to look on the bright side Connie because honestly... while what happened was unlucky, it's really not that inconvenient. At least you don't rely on that car as a daily driver. All this will only make you appreciate Holly that much more. See what poor LB is putting himself through just so you fall in love with the newer, more reliable car? He cares about you... he knows what's best. Now it's your turn to show him how much YOU car about HIM. There's nothing time can't fix...
  18. I'm working 7 days a week 12 hours a day for the next few weeks but... after that I get Sundays off. I won't have much free time for the next few months, which sucks.
  19. If it just suddenly stopped running and the timing belt is still intact I would recommend removing your disty cap and having a look at the rotor. It seems like the 4wd rotor button wasn't held on with the single screw and weren't as prone to loosening however... but anywayzz see if that's the prob.
  20. I miss the winter weekends my dad was actually home and we would get up early Saturday morning and let our '78 Chevy pickup warm up. I'd wake up to the sound of a straight 6 with headers and dual pipes revving and struggling to idle. 3 speed in the floor... my dad would let me shift gears around town. I learned how to drive in that truck... I really miss that thing. Getting up early and having pancakes, bacon and eggs before going to pick up firewood in my dad's '83 gl hatch. Visiting my Uncle out in the boonies. Getting my dad and uncle confused because they're twins. Hunting easter eggs at my Aunt's house. Playing checkers with my sister. Eating Tony's frozen pizza and watching Where in the World is Carmen San Diego. My Aunt Pat... I always called her heaven. Uncle Owen and Aunt Gale... and their Buick LeSabre. He still drives like a madman and he's 60-something. Visiting relatives on the weekends just for the hell of it. My Papaw and his marble pyramids and clothes-pin rocking chairs. Christmas parties at my aunt's house, probably the most missed memory. Begging the babysitter to let me stay up late so I could watch Movie Magic on the Discovery channel. Playing Super Mario Cart for the SNES with my sis. My mom's Chocolate Maragne pie. Most of my relatives are still alive and kicking... but they won't be around forever. This thread has made me realize I need to appreciate them more. I don't see them enough, I'm really in the mood now to pay them a visit.
  21. Get the EA81T. Cools better, will have more power at that elevation, NO TIMING BELTS, and typically easier to fix. The carb at that elevation is going to have NO power. I had an '87 EA82 Carbed wagon and it SUCKED at 5000 ft. Granted it probably would have had a little more power if it was tuned for that elevation but still, where you're at you shouldn't pass up the extra power and reliability of the EA81T for a carbed EA82. '84 is my vote!!
  22. Air suspension too?? Very clean car, nice score.
