ea82 webber swap???
i'm not really sure about the 22/22... i got the 32/36 and needed an adapter plate. i'm almost positive you would need one... you could google weber and find a weber site... and look for a number or something and call them. tell them what carb, what engine, what car and they should be able to either tell you what you'll need, or you could just order it from them.

tach speoodmoeter ratio?
Subaru_dude replied to gritle's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXtake it back and have them check out the noise. and 3k sounds about right to me. if you slowed your speed a bit, i guess you'd save some more gas because of less wind resistance. i hope i answered the "am i losing gas mileage" question, if i understood it correctly.

carby adapter gaskets, call me stupid
I don't have power steering, so that's not a prob. the intake is completely full of coolant. it's been like that all day i guess... took the carb off and it's full to the brim. i blew it out with an air compressor... is that gonna hurt anything? seems like coolant would be getting places it shouldn't be.

Not sure what to do
yeah, you live in soob country out there. they're harder to find out thisaways down here... check out Craigslist, I'm sure you'll find an a$$ load.

carby adapter gaskets, call me stupid
i've checked carefully, and I'm pretty sure that's the only area coolant can be coming from. I did notice from removing the carb again that the metal hose that comes up through the hole does stick up just a bit above the surface of the intake manifold... possibly preventing a good seal, especially with a thin paper gasket such as the replacement I have. at least they're shellaced and should be okay. I'm done for today, I must go to bed so i will be rested for work tonight. I will get rid of the little metal hose and tell you what happens from there.

carby adapter gaskets, call me stupid
okay, closed off that little tube with jb weld, then shellaced all 3 gaskets and put rtv AROUND the big hole just before putting the bottom gasket and bottom half of the adapter on the intake manifold. put the other part of the adapter plate on, then the carby and let sit for about 3-4 hours. cranked it up, same problem. coolant everywhere. so... somebody suggested putting a sock in the hole to plug it up with jb weld... i assume you mean to just leave the sock in there right? somehow I don't think that's a good thing? i'm probably misunderstanding somehow. I tried to jb weld the hole but i think i made it a little too runny and it wasn't nearly thick enough. is there any way to prevent flow of coolant to that area completely?

I think I'll just stick with that

carby adapter gaskets, call me stupid
can i use the really thin sheet gasket material that comes in rolls? i can't find any parts stores or lawnmower repair shops here in town (or anywhere else for that matter) that sell thick cardboard gasket material.

carby adapter gaskets, call me stupid
you don't just mean that little tube do you? the entire hole? that just seems like an awful lot of jb weld.

carby adapter gaskets, call me stupid
sweet!! thanks... that helps out alot. now i don't have to wait a week for gaskets to get here.

carby adapter gaskets, call me stupid
i have a redline adapter for my 32/36 weber carb (ea82) and i need the gasket between the adapter plate and the intake manifold cuz it got soaked in coolant. i've called 3 places and all 3 places have said that i'd have to buy the entire kit to get the gaskets. could i use a larger gasket and maybe just drill holes for the screws? if so... what gasket is best? maybe i haven't called enough places and this is a stupid question. let me know if it is. thanks ALOT guys. -Jordan

help with weber installation
i had to tap my holes out too. the screws that come with it were way too fat. this also answers my question as to where that coolant leak was coming from... lol.

at the junkyard
no... not like those. i went to the wheels page and looked for them and didn't see anything that was even close. i should have pics tomorrow or tuesday.
-
at the junkyard
nope, there's alot more spokes and they stop short of the edge of the rim. there's maybe a good 3" of distance between the spokes and the outer bead.
-
at the junkyard
i'll post pics in a couple days. they're silver with spokes but not snow-flake style.

at the junkyard
i was rummaging through a subaru junkyard (about 20 miles from here) and found a PAIR of 13" ENKEIS. they looked like pretty cool wheels, but there's only 2 of em. i was wondering if anybody's ever seen them? i thought that the u.s. didn't get those. how much do you think they'd sell for? I've NEVER seen them. not even on this site. and does anybody need any special hard to find parts? he's about to start selling like crazy cuz he's got too much crap. P.S. the only thing he does not have are LSD rear diffs. he's been stashing those somewhere.

What does it take to get a Subie with Blizzaks stuck?
I was visiting my dad where he was working just outside sioux city in my '87 wag and noticed a minimum mantainance road while i was out riding around in the rain one day. made it just fine through quite a bit of mud with ALOT of standing water. it was freakin awesome. cheap crap tires too. but the next day it was sunny and alot of the rain was gone... got stuck. took a very large tractor to pull me out. if this is the same road you are talking about, then that is just insane.

knock knock: who's there?
yes, i used rtv but i only lightly coated the gasket enough to hold the gasket to the oil pump while i installed it. i'm pretty certain I didn't block a passage because I used so little... and it was making the noise before too, it was just not very noticeable from the inside of the car. but from the outside once it was warmed up, i noticed it. the last time i stood outside the car to listen for any strange noises was while it was cold... and it didn't seem to make the noise when it was cold. only when it's warmed up. and i'm using 10w-30 oil. do you think switching to maybe 15w-40 will keep it going until I can build a small shed to do engine work in? maybe a few weeks? it only has about 20 miles a day put on it. and i read somewhere that it may be possible to just pull the oil pan to do rod bearings? but i'm thinking it would just be easier to pull the engine.

knock knock: who's there?
'89 gl ea82i think i have a knock. i just changed the oil pump cuz i was bored and my oil pressure seemed to be low. so... i'm bleeding the coolant and as the car warms up... a faint "knock knock knock" and as it gets warmer, it gets louder. at first I thought I left a belt tensioner loose so I took the covers off and checked. nope, they were fine. I find a 2x4 laying in the yard and press it against the driver side head and put my ear against it... "KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK". to make sure it was coming from the block itself, i put the piece of wood on several other parts of the engine and didn't hear it nearly as loud as through the block. the car suffered from TOD before the oil pump swap, but upon startup showed no signs whatsoever of ticking and had plenty of oil pressure. checked around the oil pump pretty gradually after letting it sit there and run for about 15 mins. no leaks. checked everything over a couple times, everything's good and tight. I hopped in the car and closed the door... and it was there, but I just never noticed it before. i guess it came kinda gradually. is my soob gonna die? if i have spun a bearing, is there any way I could fix this without pulling the motor? and if there is wouldn't it just be easier to go ahead and pull it? should I just go ej22 and forget about it?
