  1. i just put some of those spring braces for old/sagging springs on the front, but obviously i used them to clamp instead of spread. they don't rub if you put them towards the back of the spring. I'm trying to find some XT front struts though, i like that idea better.
  2. don't some older porsche's have a seperate intake/carb for each side of the engine? could a similar set-up for a soob be custom made and the 90 degree angles in the intake be gotten rid of??
  3. it's only riding maybe 1 1/2 inches lower in the front... you can't tell from this angle but even lowered in the front, with a full tank of gas it still looks like it's squatting a little.
  4. you are awesome. may God bless you.
  5. holy crap. that thing makes the titanic look like a deloreon. I MADE A FUNNY!!!! hahaha
  6. okay... still doing the same thing after I drove it a while. seemed okay for a little while, then started again. has power in about the first 1/3 of the pedal... go down any further, and it decelerates. you can hear the engine TRYING... but nothing's happening. have to let off the gas completely and feather it a bit and be really easy on it. does this sound like a fuel pump going out? changed the filter already. Edit: remembered the same thing happening to my first gl... was the fuel pump. will try that next.
  7. fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs, wires, disty cap, rotor, changed oil, added coolant, filled up and drove about 40 miles around town and used nearly a quarter of a tank and it actually slows down when I apply full throttle. but otherwise it seems okay as long as I don't apply too much gas?? could the gas be bad? that's what I'm thinking. anywayzz, here's a pic of "Sherman the tank".
  8. yep... sat for about 6 months. and I found out why it lost power so suddenly as well. I somehow sucked up a bird's nest and it was crammed against my air filter. crazy stuff. yeah runs alot better now!!! lol.
  9. see if your hoses going to the evap canister are all hooked up. if so... randomly light your lighter in various areas of the engine bay and you will find your gas leak (j/k, don't do that) and yes, sounds like a fuel pump.
  10. so do i need this kit or could I adjust the mixture manually to compensate? just looked at the air filter... looks okay, carb could be a little cleaner though.
  11. i was under the impression that lucas trapped air bubbles and was bad for your engine? oh well, can't hurt anything i guess. tell me what this prob could be... the car ran great when leaving middle tennessee (mostly flat, probably only 150-200ft above sea level) hit a few hills... (get to about 1,100 ft above sea level) and the car has no power. slower and slower and slower... all the way home. I remember the same deal when I hit the rockies area in my 87 carbed gl... but it wasn't NEARLY as bad. some carbs have an altitude adjust mechanism correct? if i'm right... where is it located? i will eventually be doing a spfi swap on it, so it's really not that important i guess. but in the mean time i want some guts. thanks
  12. he added lucas to the oil, I guess that's why it's so quiet. i'm getting that crap outta there as soon as possible.
  13. i'll have pics tomorrow... '87 DL. sand color... dark brown interior. a little rust around the windshield.. you can see where it's been waxed on the roof and hood. very solid... no wierd noises. except for wind whistling through the windshield and what seems to be OUT the rear. ran fine until I got up into the appalachian mountains... lost ALL power. doing 45 on the interstate for 150 miles=no fun at all. i'll look into that tomorrow. everything works except the emergency blinkers which i desperately needed... lol. $750... about what it's worth. only 174,000 miles and the headgaskets are new, water pump, junkyard radiator, and timing belts are new and it's had a complete reseal done within the last 40,000 miles. runs like a dream as long as you're within 10' of sea level. it's so quiet that without a tach, i have trouble remember when to change gears. it's AMAZINGLY quiet. i got a weber so... i'm getting rid of that crappy hitachi.
  14. There's sooo many people causing problems that trying to convince one person that what they are doing is insane is like putting the EGR valve back on a Loyale. and by saying that, I'm not calling anyone insane... just making a point.
  15. sorry 56k.... judging by these pics, how much do you think the car would be worth after headgaskets and a complete reseal? it would be completely flawless with that done. Nothing else needs attention. I was thinking it'd probably sell for $1200?? maybe more??
  16. Does anybody know if this is a factory trailer hitch??

sweet. now let's pray for snow. that's about the only thing I'll be able to wheel in cuz I only got single range. got a d/r sitting in the basement though.

okay, thought I'd bring this up cuz I am the proud owner of an '87 d/r 5spd DL single range 4wd wagon in nearly mint condition with nearly all of it's service records. bragging aside... who wants to play in the snow up in the mountains one weekend? we'll have to wait for some snow, but i'm sure it'll come around.
  19. that does seem wierd that she would be injured after just a tap. could happen I guess. I think it's crap though. I hit a woman doing... I dunno... 40? ripped the glasses straight off my face and from being tense I pushed the steering wheel into the dash. I was alright other than some whiplash and a pulled muscle in my right arm. Her car didn't crumple. She took the FULL FORCE of the impact and only suffered some Severe whiplash. her airbag didn't go off either. Which brings me to another subject... why is it always the soobs that get destroyed in wrecks? They seem like bricks to everything except to other cars, even ones designed to crumple treat Subarus like tin cans.

it takes a 2500lb roo to pull out a 3500lb jeep. it takes a God knows how much it weighs D9 Cat (in my case a "dualie tractor") to pull out a stuck soobie. who's car's got da biggest balls.
  21. seems like that would have been discovered by now but maybe not? next day off there's a junkyard nearby... I'm gonna go look for those wheels too.
  22. wish I knew that when I did my clutch cable.
