  1. Moog it is!! I could drive the price over $100 and do ball joints and maybe even outer tie rods too. As for finding a junkyard replacement, there's no more old Subarus in the junkyards around here. They're all long gone...
  2. Some of them came with the 3at, so they weren't ALL dual range.
  3. I've got an '84 DL hardtop with manual steering, and my inners are loose. I've seen them anywhere from $28 to $45. I'd like to go the cheaper route but after buying brand new axles that were complete crap out of the box, I'm thinking that MAYBE I should spend a little bit more money this time. My question is, when it comes to inner tie rod ends does it really matter?
  4. Oh and I would consider some suspension upgrades for handling. And maybe some different wheels later on down the line.... some snowflakes of some sort would probably look pretty good but that's just my opinion.
  5. There's a company in Nashville, TN importing the diesels and ECUs. Unfortunately, the wiring is left up to the buyer and I'm not so sure they're importing the transmissions. But a diesel in an older d/r GL would be able to turn some pretty big tires. Edit: If Subaru keeps selling cars as well as they are, cost probably won't be an issue before too long.
  6. So how is the 4EAT handling the power? Honestly I've always been afraid of Subarus 4EAT, plus I love to drive stick but being that you can't get a d/r with any of the EJ cars (unless you do the swap yourself), the auto is the way to go for off roading.
  7. Mine tolerated 20 degrees for about 8,000 miles then I put it back to 8 after reading that it's not good for an EA81. We'll see how it effects it long term later on down the road.
  8. I have the same problem with the fuel pressure building in the tank. I have the same 3 nipple filter, but there's no place for the hose coming off the third nipple to go either. Doesn't have a charcoal canister anymore and I didn't remove it so I have no idea if that has something to do with it or not. Word of advice, if you ever start losing power on the interstate, pull over and let the car sit a while and then pull the gas cap off. Sometimes it will build so much pressure it will cause it to run way too rich. Edit: Also, I've got my weber set to 8 deg and yes it has the stumble at WOT but it's getting GREAT mileage and it very rarely diesels on shutdown. When it does diesel I have a feeling it has to do with all the pressure built up in the fuel system, but really I don't know.
  9. Considering the regulations on fuel mileage in the near future, they'll HAVE to bring the diesel to the states eventually.
  10. I THINK this is the new Outback.... http://www.subaruoutback.org/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=10593&size=big&cat=&ppuser=102281
  11. Wait a minute!!! I quoted the wrong freaking post!!! Crap sorry mates!!!!!! Yeah everybody's right, that's a freaking Justy!!!!!!!!!!
  12. It's cool I was just being funny, the justys came in 4 or 2 door variations. They look extremely similar and the only reason I knew it was an EA81 was because I've seen the vid that still is from before which I just posted. Too bad it's not clearer and longer, I want to see more of this beast. Stick around here and you'll learn more than you could ever learn on any other Subaru board.
  13. Wait... an EA81 hatch has 4 doors? Oh sorry my mistake, I guess I've never owned or seen one.
  14. I swear Subarus just take a while to get into reverse for some reason... every auto Subaru I've ever driven took forever to go into reverse.
  15. You should built/buy a replica body lift from whatever the Outback has under it as well as Outback struts and bumpers. You'll have the only existing current gen Outback sedan in the WORLD.
  16. I say do it anyway, and just don't drive it like you stole it. Possibly even put a brick under the gas pedal to keep you from going full throttle. There's plenty of EJ22 GLs out there with EA d/r transmissions. Yeah we are dealing with more weight AND more power, but I think if you just drive it normally with the occasional romp on the trails I could see it lasting for a while.
  17. It's a Subaru thermostat and it's less than a year old, so I'll throw the old one in and see what happens.
  18. So on a 50 mile trip the other day, I heard gushing when I pulled into my destination. Coolant was pouring out from the lower heater hose. I could see the drips leading up to where I parked but it seems it REALLY let loose when I turned the car off. So I change the hose, top it off with only about a cup of water (seemed like there was more than that on the ground) and off I go. Now the temp gauge likes to "hunt" around the center mark on the temp gauge which it didn't do before. I would know, I look at the temp gauge more than I do the road. I drive it all the way home while it's "hunting", and today it was having an even harder time staying cool while sitting still than it did before. The radiator fans can barely keep it touching the center mark. So I park it on a steep hill when I get home, remove the cap and let it run. The temp does the same thing, hunts a little then sits slightly above the halfway mark and the fans are going full blast. But NO bubbles. So I'm guessing that there's air trapped in the heater core. How are you supposed to burp an EA81? I never really had any trouble with EA82s and from what I've read I shouldn't be having any trouble at all burping this thing. What gives? Maybe this unusually warm weather has something to do with it? Maybe the water pump is weak? Certain it didn't overheat on my trip, at least according to the gauge it didn't.
  19. Pal, that's NOT a justy. That's an EA81 hatchback. I can see where you could get them confused and you have a low post count so ALL IS FORGIVEN!!!
  20. That's ASSUMING his front and rear tires are different sizes. I used to drive my d/r EA82 GL on the interstate in 4wd all the time, never hurt it. Even after miles and miles it would slip right out of 4wd hi without having to force it. If it was binding it wouldn't have let go so easy.
  21. I'm kind of surprised there was actually a difference in mileage. My '96 Outback burned ethanol and non-ethanol exactly the same. Had the EJ22 in it too. How much of a difference are you seeing?
  22. Oil pump on EA81 hardtop, oil change too. Re-tuned the carb, now I'm getting darn close to 40mpg on the hwy. Incredible.
  23. Yeah you would need the end of the axle still in place and just remove the rest. The e-brake being on the front wheels makes for great burnouts too.
