  1. My 95 has the cut and it upsets me. I use my car to pull other cars around, pull things like Jeeps that get stuck in the snow. I guess that's the price we pay for having dual front air bags a year before mandated. Keith
  2. Boy, sure seems like it could be an inner CV, or maybe a rear. Try laying under the car and looking for rings of grease on the body in line with the rubber boots. Keith
  3. Well, I'm 99% certain that the shells are all the same, and that we could make anything FWD into AWD. Since most of the early cars had drums, and we run discs, and the fact that we run a WRX driveline (engine, trans, diff) all that has to get swapped anyway. Also considering that the car's wiring harness is hand made for the swap we would have to swap over the wiring harness, so 5spd or automatic doesn't matter either. Right now he is considering fixing it. I personally wouldn't even consider it after all it has been through. Apparently the price range he is looking for is $500 or less. Something with a straight body/frame. Keith
  4. Yeah, we had it repainted two weeks before carlisle. Good news is that Mechanically it's fine other than a busted radiator. Keith
  5. It was the last time you will ever see THAT Rally car.... http://www.rallyracers.net/stpr06/pages/IMG_0548.html and http://www.rallyracers.net/stpr06/pages/IMG_0572.html Other pictures @ http://www.rallyracers.net/stpr06 It's not unrepairable, but with everything else that shell has been through we are going to toss it. Already looking for a new shell... Cheap... Somewhere in the northeast. Keith
  6. Depends on if they are the 02-04 style or the 05 and newer style. The 05 and newer style are a darker color and different spoke design. I don't think $250 for the newer ones is unreasonable, but $200 is good for the older style. Keith
  7. Spreads the pressure out across the pad so you get greater surface area that receives the pressure. Basically there is a greater surface are for those two slightly smaller pistons than there is for just the one slightly larger piston. Keith
  8. Actually... I'm gonna have to go ahead and disagree with you on that. The USDM STi 6 speed is a seriuosly beefy unit. I've heard very little about people destroying them.
  9. Well for one I think you would have to change the rear diff ratio. Secondly (I assume you mean USDM STi 6 speed) it does you no good to have the 6speed if you don't have all the electronics to control the center diff. Your stock unit has a viscous coupling center that requires no electronics, where as the STi 6spd has an open center diff with an eletrically locking clutch pack. Lastly, I'm not sure you would have much lower of an RPM on the highway. The 1-4 in the 6spd are the same as 1-3 in a standard WRX, and 5 and 6 in the STi match prety close to 4 and 5 in the WRX. The idea of the 6 speed box is for closer gear ratios for out of the corner acceleration. Check up the whole final drive ratios and the inividual gear ratios.
  10. Up until I think it was 98 there was no sleeve bearing in the tailshaft housing and that in fact is one of the ways that you get torque bind. However, for a fairly small amount of money (compared to a new trans) you can get a replacement tailshaft housing from subaru that fixes this. So your Mechanic was right about the worn seat thing, but I think wrong on the tranny being trash. As for other things, there have been a few reports of people having success with just having the transmission fluid FLUSHED. Not just "drained and replaced," but completely flushed. I think most Subaru Dealers have a special on that right now for about $70. Keith
  11. Odds are good they put chitty gas in. When I bought my STi 3 years ago they told me they did me a favor and put 93 in it. I kindly got out the owners manual and turned to the page that showed them the car required 93. They had no clue. Fortunatley I was the first one taking delivery of an STi at this dealership. From there on out I'm sure things were done correctly. Keith
  12. Uh yeah???? I've done tons of these without ever taking off any body parts other than the Hood. (makes for easier access to some things) Also, I've never done one where the engine was warm, and I have no idea why you would want to warm the engine. Keith
  13. 95 could be FWD or AWD, and 1.8 or 2.2. I think it could be 2.2 AWD and Auto, or 1.8 FWD and Auto. Easiest way to know these things is to look at the car. Look under the rear of the car for a rear diff and half shafts... they make it AWD. Then Look on the engine under the alternator for either an EJ18 or EJ22 "stamped" into the block. This will tell you the engine size. Keith
  14. Cold Heat = Thumbs Down in my book. I'm an electronics technician and bought one thinking it would be great for field work. The tip is basically a fork and only when you short the two sides together with what you are soldering will it heat up. Even then I wasn't confident I was getting proper heating. I would just use a corded iron. Keith
  15. 800GB Traffic http://www.siteground.com AWESOME Deal!
  16. OK, my photos are up. http://www.rallyracers.net/carlisle06/index.htm And this is my Favorite Photo that I must say My fiance Tess took: http://www.rallyracers.net/carlisle06/pages/IMG_0294.htm If anyone wants a Full Resolution copy of a picture (3-5mb files @ 3456x2304 resolution) just PM me with the file name and your e-mail address. Keith
  17. I'm working on it too. I lost my rallyracers.com domain about 4 months ago thanks to a crappy registration company that folded. So I just registered rallyracers.net last night. Should have some stuff up by the end of the long weekend. I promise they will be the first thing I put up. Keith
  18. The $43 Wagner Ceramics would be your best bet. The way I understand it, Ceramics are engineered to be quite and dust free over everyting else.
  19. Dust... Yeah, they are brakes. I personally never expect a brake pad to be dust free so it never bothers me. Noise... Not if broken in properly. I've run Metal Masters on my street cars for years now. I've never had noise issues, and the brake dust is a minor side effect for the effectiveness of the pads. EBC Makes some good stuff, but for a street car I don't think I can justify the 40% increase in price for EBC Greens, or the 50% increase for EBC Reds. For a Race application I'd go EBC, but for street I'd go Metal Master. That's just my opinion and I'm sticking to it. Keith Keith
  20. Well, if you really want to be technical I'm fairly certain that the SVX used the 5 x 114.5 wheels as well. Also, I would personally say there isn't a big advantage to upgrading the rear brakes over upgrading the fronts, unless you had drums to start. A typical Rally car setup uses Stock WRX Calipers with RS Mounting brackets and RS Sized rotors in the front, and Standard WRX/RS Rear Calipers and rotors. (Rally Cars run 15" wheels) Unless you want to race your car on the track the only advantage you get with the Brembos are the Bling gold. Pads make the biggest difference. Keith
  21. I'm up for breakfast, I just don't know where to go. I've never eaten anywhere in carlisle other than at the fairgrounds.
  22. So, how many people are bringing kids along? My Fiance is an elementry school music teacher who loves kids. She's coming out friday with me and staying for saturday. I'm going to ask her to pack games that she can play with the kids, but I'd like to be able to tell her what to expect. Thanks, Keith
  23. The only info I had came from the registration page. I haven't really had much time to look into it otherwise. Keith
  24. Ok, I paid for a camping spot on the fairgrounds. It is supposed to be 10' x 30' so it should be big enough that we could setup a few tents if needed. Mine is only a two or three person tent, but my fiance is coming so don't get any ideas. For me, if it rains we'll just sleep in the big 12 passanger van I'll be towing the race car down with. There are supposed to be showers somewhere on site. Keith
  25. Sorry, life has been super busy. I honestly wouldn't even be coming anymore if it wasn't for the fact that I paid, and my half brother and nefhew are coming. I WILL NOT be doing the motor swap. Turns out the short block has the pan and pick-up tube off, plus I simpley have not had the time to prep everything I would need to do it. I guess we'll all just have to drink beer and find other ways to be stupid. PS, I'll post this in the other thread, but I paid for a camp sight on the grounds and I intend on sleeping there... or if it rains I'll sleep in the big van I'm towing the race car with. Supposed to be showers there somewhere. Keith
