missfire/splutter when cold Legacy 1993
Legacy777 replied to habib99's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXDon't ask me why....but even though the coolant temp sensors don't throw a CEL or test ok....they can still be the culprit.

Cant find the black check code connectors?
Legacy777 replied to oregonloyale's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThey are sometimes taped up on the wiring loom. You may need to remove the TCU to see them. That's what I had to do. This thread has pictures http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=33488

little help please
Legacy777 replied to mtnman38's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIt's not quite a direct swap. Is her car and the donor automatic or manual? There were some sensor differences between the 90-91 MY's and the 92-94 MY's. The engine electrical connector plug changed I think mid year....so that may be something you'll have to look into. It's not a big deal...you just have to swap the electrical harness.

Need Help! Legacy ECU location
Legacy777 replied to simbey1982's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXRefresh my mind on what setup you're doing. Basically you want to keep the sensors associated with the ECU. The sensors in question are: MAF Sensor IAC Valve Injectors The wiring harness of the car that's going to receive everything will also play a role in which ECU, Hitachi or JECS you use.

having down-shift problems with forester
Legacy777 replied to 75subie's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThere's no way to adjust it. Only thing you can do is manually move the gear selector to the 1 or 2 position.

Running EJ22 without timing belt cover
Legacy777 replied to WoodsWagon's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou can do what you want....it really doesn't make much difference to me. My recommendation to leave them on is due to the fact that any dirt and other junk that gets in contact with the belt, pullies, etc will shorten the life of the belt, and the idler pullies. If you don't care about that.....then leave them off.

Im back............... with another legacy and I got trans Q's
Legacy777 replied to oregonloyale's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe 3rd gear grind is probably the synchro. Replace the fluid, see if that helps. You can add a little bit of penzoil synchromesh to help. If none of that helps, you or the next owner will just have to live with it. The first gen legacies are OBD1. Instructions to pull the codes & code info is on my site www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/engine.html Yes there are two cats. One in the header pipe, and one in the mid pipe.

what controls idle of engine while in R/D/3/2/1
Legacy777 replied to kzcafe's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe car's computer controls the idle via the idle air control valve. The valves can sometimes get sticky with carbon and not respond as smoothly as they should. You can squirt brake cleaner down in there. I would check for vacuum leaks and the normal stuff as well.

Running EJ22 without timing belt cover
Legacy777 replied to WoodsWagon's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou should keep the covers on to help keep debris and junk out of there. Especially since you're going to be offroading. Go to a junkyard and find a used set.

EJ22 questions.. 1989-1994
Legacy777 replied to torxxx's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe 90-91 Legacies & 92-94 legacies do have some differences. The electrical harness between the two are different. As you noticed, the 92 engine harness won't plug into the 90-91. There are a few other things here and there, but for the most part things are pretty similar. Do check out the legacycentral bbs. A lot of good info on there.

94 legacy transmission mystery
Legacy777 replied to oldgerman's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXDoes sound like an issue with the torque converter locking up/not locking up. Not sure what the fix would be though.

98 Forester check engine light.
Legacy777 replied to coolconnection's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou need to find out the specific code that is being stored. That will make troubleshooting the problem easier.

check engine light after engine change
Legacy777 replied to kzcafe's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe 90-91 AT & MT legacies had different sensors. The ignitor, coil pack, injectors, IAC valve, MAF sensor, and ECU are different. The ignitor & coil pack won't really matter. The injectors are timed slightly different, so your mixture will not be right on. I'd suggest swapping the AT injectors in. Also, the IAC valve on the AT's is a rotary type valve, compared to the MT's recipricating valve. The MAF sensor is also different. Swap the IAC valve & injectors from the AT car. Also, sounds like your coolant temp sensor is bad. Did you check the codes? Do that before you do anything else. The computer is telling you what it doesn't like....

Transmission lock release
Legacy777 replied to flylaps's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSounds like the shift lock system is messing up. It could be the controller, it might be one of the sensors too.
