Did you forget something at the show???
I heard this from several people, "I brought _______ (fill in the blank) to the show for _______ (fill in the blank), but they haven't come and picked it up." Some of these folks made a big effort to make sure that they got the parts to the show for other to pick up. I'll bet they think twice about doing that again.

I'll go for one, but more to see how well the camera did, since that will probably be my next camera.

'96 Impreza Coupe... i wanna do an ej20 swap
Dr. RX replied to wrx1996awd's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXNope, a twin turbo will not fit without major rework tio the brake booster, and steering. A JDM WRX engine puts out more horsepower then a twin turbo anyway, so why try to install one.

Dr. RX replied to wrx1996awd's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYep, your talking to him. The EJ22 engine Impreza have approximately 52 wires that need to be spliced. Since the manual trannies have hydraulic clutches, you'd have to change the pedal set up anyway, so starting with an auto is a big deal. If you just got your license suspended, maybe this isn't the project for you, this conversion is not for the faint hearted. I can guarantee that if you have trouble getting tickets now, you think that is nothing compared with what will happen if you drive this car.

MPGs report
Just got back from WCSS6, my 96 WRX STi Type R replica (JDM WRX power train) got a little over 24mpg, and the traffic was moving along at 80mph down and back, had a few burst over 100mph. Not bad for 241hp at the engine and 187hp at the wheels.

how to tell it's an RX?
Not totally sure here, I know that some have had one piece driveline made, other have used the two piece. With the two piece you'll need to attach the center hanger bearing to the undercarage. All EA82s have the same wheel base and use the same drivelines (match to the same type of tranny). I believe that the EA81 based BRATs are close enough to use the drivelines out of the EA82s except for the hanger bearing mod.

how to tell it's an RX?
Quick answers, tranny side, yep, yep, yep, and yep.

how to tell it's an RX?
You'll probably need new axles too since the turbo 3.70 tranny has 25 spline stub axles, the N/A 3.90 tranny has 23 spline stub axles. Most people that I have helped put 5 D/R trannies in BRATs use a N/A tranny and we convert a 3.90 open to a LSD.

WCSS6 updates and news
In case some people have never been to the Hood River Fair Grounds, they are not in Hood River, they are in a little town just south of Hood River call O'Dell, OR. The Fair Grounds is located near the corner of Wy East and Summit Roads in O'Dell. Any of the three exit to Hood River heading south will get you near the grounds, if you get lost, stop anyone in O'Dell, they shoul dknow where the Frir Grounds are. Here is a map, http://corkysrocks.net/WCSS6.jpg

how to tell it's an RX?
So, if it is a RX, then it has a LSD rear diff (unless someone replaced it) and the tranny will have a 3.70 ratio.

If all goes well, the eastside gang should be rolling into Hood River about 24 hours from the posting of this post.

OH, OK, I get baja and flow mixed up (on the board only, not in person ). Thanks for the heads up on the spelling, my sister used to live in Milwaukie, OR before moving to Sisters, OR.

Got an RX.... now what?
Just remember, all cars that go to Japan as scrap have a chance of being reincarnated (pun intended) as a Subaru.

Hey Craig, if Flow lives in Milwaukee, OR and you live in Beaverton, how could you be only two doors door from him? PS: Consider yourself biten.
-
how to tell it's an RX?
That's easy, on all RX's the 6th, 7th and 8th digits in the VIN are 56B, if those are not the digits, then it is not a RX. Here is a link to the VIN page on my site, http://corkysrocks.net/images/VIN.bmp

Twin Turbp Musings
Gee that's funny, I'm an engineer at Boeing also. There is a difference between an inline 4 and an opposing 4. An inline 4 would split the pulse, but an opposing 4 is like two 2 cylinder engines, each with their own spearate pulse. I was probably one of the first people to twin turbo a small block Chevy (1969), the idea was to use each bank as a 4 cylinder engine. The performance wasn't quite what we expected, but then we didn't know that much about mapping and sizing turbochargers to engines based upon displacement. Heck the first engine we turbo'd used a turbo off of a big diesel CAT engine, as you can imagine, it did little for performance, but we knew we were on to something so we kept looking for smaller turbos. Subaru has been running twin turbocharged 4 cylinders for almost 14 years with no problems, that alone should be enough testimony of the possibility.

Zap, I saw how you bobbed the BRAT you had, and couldn't figure why you didn't keep the tailgate. I'm a metal fabricator, I'll bet that I can fabricate sheet metal parts that will make it look like it came from the factory that way, I'll bet that Mudrat could do it too.
