I might have the part numbers at home, I'll have to get back with you. If you contact a dealer, just ask for the stub axles for the rear diff of a 91 Legacy Turbo.

2003 WRX STi motor install in 88' Wagon
Dr. RX replied to WagonBoy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Too bad we are about 200 miles apart, but that is still not too far. Anyway, I've done this before, I am the creator of UltimateRX, and just finished my latest project, creating a 96 WRX STi Type R out of a wrecked 96 Impreza Brighton. I can guide you through the conversion and help you over the rough spots, e-mail me at corkysrocks@isomedia.com . -
Correct OEM alloys for an 89 GL10?
Dr. RX replied to thealleyboy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Here you go, straight out of the 89 sells broucher. or But actually any of the top row were available for the wagon in 89. -
MorganM, besides the Turbo Legacy (91 only) and the SVX, name one other Subaru that came with a VLSD in the USA. All the Imprezas have LSDs, not VLSDs. Imprezas and other EJ series cars do have viscous couplers in the center diff, but not the rear or front diff. Please let me know so that I can start looking for them.

I have turbo Legacy 3.90 VLSD in my sedan, it has the stud axle with c-clips, those are what you need. If you run across any more of those, let me know, for $20 plus shipping these would be a great deal.

How to tell if the turbo is not working
Dr. RX replied to Petersubaru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If the turbo fails, there is enough air and exhaust to flow around the turbine blades to allow the engine to run as a N/A, although at much less power since the engine has lower compression then a normal N/A engine. Oil blow by it cause by a bad seal, not the bearing, but a bad bearing will cause a seal to go bad. There are lots of things that can cause a turbo to not perform as it should, one big one is an exhaust leak before the turbo. This happens a lot on Subarus and is hard to see because most of the exhaust is sheilded. A boost guage is probably the best way to tell if the turbo is working while still on the car and engine is running. -

If you want some classy rare wheels, I have some early gold STi 16 inch wheels. I have 7 of them, I was going to use them on my Impreza but I upgraded the brakes and these wheel would not fit any more, but they will fit a stock Legacy. Here is the deal, you can pick out the best 4 at $100 each ($400 total) or take all 7 for $500.

Well, let me see, a BRAT is a type of a EA81 series car, and since the struts (frt) and shocks (rr) are different from an EA82 series car, I would guess that is what would determine that.

Who's coming to subaru heaven in NZ
Dr. RX replied to subGSR's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
One of these days I need to get down that way, I have several friends in NZ and others in Oz, I could easily spend a day at each place and be down there a month. I have a friend in Adelaide who said that I can stay at his villa overlooking the ocean if I come over there. So I have plenety of offers for places to stay, I'll add your's to my list, but no guarrantee when I'd be dropping by. -
Nope, those are EA81 series type shocks.

Call me Crazy!! an XT6 on Solid Axles????
Dr. RX replied to mtsfabman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
OK, "You're CRAZY!!!!" Is that good enough??? -
In you signature block you state that you have a 85 turbo coupe. I'm curious because as far as I know, there was a turbo coupe in 84 (EA91T) and a turbo coupe in 86 (EA82T), but there wasn't even a coupe in 85 (unless you want to call a Hatchback a coupe). So, do you have any pictures of your 85??
-
Yea right, I knew if you found a computer that you'd be logging onto the board. Found any PAPs yet??
-
Yep, those are the ones.

Several Lotus' had an hour glass shaped frame, and that frame looks kind of hour glass shaped. Did a Triumph have axles like that??
-
Somewhere around here there is a picture of Qman's flying Hatch and Austin's flying wagon.
-
Kind of off topics here, but is that a Lotus frame on the floor next to the car??

The only real mod that needs to be done it to the rear portion of the transmission mount (the mount has three pieces), the rear piece needs to be narrowed. The other thing is that you'll need to get the front portion of the two piece driveline (EA82 style) shortened 55mm, I'm not sure of the measurement for a single piece driveline like those in teh BRATs. Everything else just bolts right up. As for years to looks at for JDM EJ20Gs out of Legacys, they started installing them in 89 in Japan, and continued up till 95 I believe, maybe even later. So if you can get a 90 to 93, they should fall within that price range with trannies. Hopefully that will have the ECU with them, but chances are that the wiring harness will be cut. There are several aftermarket programable ECUs that are available that will work. Another thing, if you get a 92 or later engine, there are tabs on the motor mount that will need to be ground off.
