  1. Mike I like the list thing so we don't get many duplicates unless they are something that I like ( ). As for free loaders, how about this, if you bring something, you're in, if not a couple of bucks will get you in. Proceeded to be contributed to the HP slush fund.
  2. OK, since off topic is gone, I guess I'll post this here, it doesn't seem to fit any of the topics we currently have. Since the beer tasting has been approved, we now need to organize it, if that is what everyone wants. We can throw iot wide open and let anyone bring thier favorite and we can go from there. Or we can put soime sort of organization to it. I need input as to how we should do this. Please limit the input to only those who plan to be there. I'll bring a couple of big bags of pretzels from Costco to clense the pallet better brews.
  3. Caboobaroo, I make 3.90 LSD rear diffs all the time, I just replace the open diff in the 3.90 with a LSD diff from a 3.70. It bolt right up to the ring gear so it if a simple conversion. There is some grinding required to the housing though. I really doubt if you or anyone else could tell the difference between a 3.889 and a 3.90. In fact I bet if you count the teeth on the Datsun/Nissan you find it has the same as the Subaru. Subaru just choose to round it up, and Datsun didn't.
  4. I think some of you don't understand, the manual was using the term foot pounds throughout the whole process, then in the last process it changed to inch pounds. There was no mention of any other torque values, like N*m, so you couldn't compare them. It is just stupid to be using one value all the way through, and then change it at the end of the process. If I had brought my FSM that wouldn't have happened.
  5. As long as the diff is the same as the EA82 LSD's, you can switch out the open diff for a LSD diff and keep the ring and pinion gears.
  6. Shawn, I believe the first RX had a 1300cc engine, and it was released only in Japan, I believe in 78. That is why when you look at what we know as a RX, but in Japan, that car is known as a RX II.
  7. Well, they may fit, but what about the angle of pull from the parking brake handle wire?? It needs to be at a certain angle or you won't get the leveage to pull the level on the caliper.
  8. DUH!!!! Yeeeaaaaaaa!!!!!
  9. The Impreza front axles are 4mm longer then the EA82 front axles, that must difference in taken up in play in the CV and DOJ. You can not use the stock EA82 axles, you must use the XT6 axles with the XT6 hub and the Impreza axles with the Impreza hub. As for rear e-brakes, I have a set of rear calipers for an early Toyota Supra, they appear to be that same size as the rear clipers for the EA82. They were the only calipers that I could find that uses a backing plate to hold the calipers in place like SUbaru does. I need to re-drill the Toyota backing plates to match the Subaru bolt pattern to the housing, then bolt everything together and see if that works. Since I don't have a garage, I'm waiting for better weather to try this out. I should know by June, hopefully.
  10. I was working on a friends engine today, re-installing the heads, I had forgot my factory manuals at home and was using his Hanes manual. I was working on an EJ22 and the torque sequence is very complex. All the way through the steps it is talking about foot pounds, when I get to the thrid form the last step, it suddenly changed to inch pounds. I thought the torque values were really high, but not that high (I've had to torque some head at that value). So in the process of torquing the bolts to that value, one of the bolts broke. So I have to pull the whole engine, and now it is sitting in a machine shop wait from the machinist to come to work on Monday. By the way, there is quite a difference between 11 foot pounds and 132 foot pounds, but 132 inch pounds in close to 11 foot pounds.

  12. It would be hard to say unless you had all of the VINs for 4 door sedans, then subtracted the 56B code which tells you it is a RX. the 2XXXXX is the serial number series used for all sedans, DL's, GL's, GL-10's, and RX's. So your VIN tells you that you have the 17405th sedan produced that years, the first sedan is serial number 200001.
  13. "you cant really tow slower because your on a main freeway, and if you go slower you get attition fromt he cops which is what we dont need, expecally with expired tabs and lights that dont work." So, you are towing the Subaru with a truck that has expired plates and no lights? Or is it the Subaru that has the expired plates and no lights? If the latter, then no problem, I doubt they would even pull you over. As for going less then 55mph on a major freeway (max speed is 70mph in WA), tell that to the little old ladies who regularly drive those same freeways at 45mph. If you are over in the far right lane, no one is going to be concerned if you are going less then the speed limit
  14. xforxlifex, well if you think that RX is the hotest, then you haven't seem this one. UltimateRX This one is EJ20G powered, also note, 5 bolt wheels.
  15. There is a ring and pinion shop up across from Paine Field in Everett, WA., I'm sure that they could cut a ring gear that would match the pinion gear to get a 4.11 ratio, but I wouldn't want to pay the bill.
  16. Got 'em, WOW, those are some loose women. But then I have alway thought we make too big of an issue about bare breasts (by the way, there were no shots of totally bare breasts in those photos). While they may be considered interesting, their usefullness has long since gone, once the child is whined.
  17. Later this Spring I will complete the transformation on my GL-10 to RX, then go one step further. I will be replacing the on-demand 4WD 5 speed D/R and the 3.90 VLSD with a RX Full-time 4WD 5 speed D/R with center lockable diff and a 3.70 LSD. It already has the RX suspension parts. The next step will be converting it to 5 bolt pattern. And then...............
  18. Sorry CIS, but the 881/2 4 sp auto was not AWD, it is a Full Time 4WD tranny and is different then the EJ series AWD auto.
  19. Hey Calebz, go ahead, offend me with those pictures. I have DSL, no need to worry about band width.
  20. Freak, I'll bet you that not everyone and their uncle has a GC8, that is commonly mis-used in the USA as the code for an Impreza, but in reality, that is the code for a WRX (pre-USA model). Most people will know what you are talking about if you use the code GC8, but if you use the correct code, they wouldn't have a clue, that is because people have mis-used the code too long to know the difference. I also posted this subject awhile ago, and no one who responded had the code GC8 on their Impreza.
  21. Yea, with enough money anything can be done, but why??? Like stated here, there are aftermarket stuff that you can use to get the same effect with a lot less cost a trouble.
  22. The rear shocks on an EA82 are similar to your EA81 shocks, no strut tower.
  23. I can't believe his statement about no one calling a Durango a station wagon, then tells us the Jeep Grand Cherokee has the same chassis. I have always considered the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee 4WD station wagons, so by guilt of association, that would make the Durango a station wagon. Then he goes on to say that techincally the BRAT shouldn't be in the class. ??????? So, I guess he wouldn't allow any of the small truck in the class either, like the old Chevy LUV, the Dodge D50, and similar light trucks. The boy need to get out of the competition if he is going to set up the rules.
